One of the biggest complaint heard during his announcement was that his alt mode. Megatron transform into a silver tank instead of a gun. For me personally, I think I can understand Hasbro's decision behind Megatron's alt mode. They tried giving Megatron a gun for his alt mode but due to legal issues, he ended up being a Nerf-like gun (Classics, 2006). So, either funny looking gun or badass tank, I preferred the latter.
[...]
I hated him when Hasbro released his promo pictures but in hand, man, he's gorgeous! Despite unable to give Megatron his G1 alt mode, Hasbro did a really good job giving him G1 robot mode design. May I say, even better than MP-05?
[...]
Megatron comes with a ball-jointed head (wide range), ratchet joint on the elbows, wrist swivels, waist swivels (limited unless you push the tank tread on his back upwards, giving clearance. The hips are on universal joints with swivels just below them. The knees are on ratchet joint and there's small, almost none, ankle tilts.
[...]
Combiner Wars Optimus Prime can be considered a big voyager and personally, the size of these two really works as I always prefer the bad guy to be bigger. But the biggest question about Leader Class Megatron was when Takara posted a picture comparing him (Takara Version) with MP-10 Convoy.

Did you notice the prices for voyagers at TRU? $29.99! I saw this, came home and ordered both first wave CW voyagers form BBTS for $49.99. Who does TRU think theys is?

I did when I bought AoE Galvatron back a couple months ago actually. It's why I ordered CW Voyager Optimus Prime online on Amazon to sorta wet my appetite for my Leader G1 Megatron that's coming. With the range of articulation Megs has, based on the reviews, I might do an action pose with him "holding" Prime above his head on my shelf. Then when I get the limbs for Ultra Prime I might put them in a fighting pose of some sort.

Inquiring minds want to know ?
Every current offering from the Generations line starting with the IDW release wave containing Pax, Bumblebee, Trailcutter, and Megatron almost two years back. Its is the current incarnation of the transformers in the toyline. Just like G2 before it.
Maybe from a comic reading standpoint that would make sense. But truth be told Generations, Thrilling 30, Combiner Wars, or whatever they call it in 2016 is just a random medley of homages from older continuities. IDW throws together whatever homages Hasbro makes that year and writes a comic. Thats why we call it CHUG. It's an ongoing line of homages that gets a new name every year. Not everybody reads comics, also.

Drat! I was afraid Hasbro was gonna do that.SW's SilverHammer wrote:Yo, the Club Magazine's arriving with a preview of warpath. A friend told me about him. Warpath appears to a a slight redeco and retool of the Generations Legends Megatron toy. The colors and head are G1 Warpath, but he lacks the classic barrel chest due to the mold choice.
Now if we want a proper Treds redeco to go with other hypothetical Generations Legends GoBots, Generations Deluxe Warpath is too big and Universe Legends Warpath is too small.

I bought Prime, and am having a hard time getting him to fit right into his truck mode. Haven't tried transforming him into Omega yet.
EDIT: I paid $24.99 for it.

megatronus wrote:shockblast2 wrote:william-james88 wrote:shockblast2 wrote:True on G2. I guess we have to go with it though because it was officially branded as such.
I don't think you can classify Classics, RTS, and Universe with Generations. The former was straight up recreations of G1 characters and was advertised as such, whereas Generations has become its own entity with the comics driving the fiction, which is entirely separate from G1. The first year of Geneerations was like Classics, but after FOC took over it changed.
So the recent Generations Leaders Jetfire and Megatron are not reinterpretations of the G1 characters as were the initial universe/classic releases of Jetfire and Megatron? Or are they testament that the generations line has rebooted what the classics line began? What about Arcee and Chromia? I do see how the line changed with FOC. But releases like Nightbeat and Roadbuster and the others mentioned above really feel like a continuation of the notion that the initial classics line had. Would you agree?
I can see why one would think that for some of the figures, like Roadbuster, Whirl, and Arcee. But ultimately I view them as a stand alone. The fact that Jhaxis, Waspinator, and Rhinox, among others, didn't even exist in G1 solidifies this for me. Which is great, because you can have new additions, like Alpha and Offroad, and totally disregard prior fiction that would have made his inclusion illogical.
I have been on both sides in my time with transformers. And I find the Classics style collecting very constraining. You have a set of rules and ideologies you have to conform to. With the new line, its all open. Anyone can exist in this continuity, or not, like in the case of Wildrider.
I don't quite get your argument. You say the difference between Classics and Generations is that Classics is reimagined G1 while Generations is fiction driven. Except:
-The IDW fiction is a reimagining of the G1 Universe, so you can say the corresponding Generations figures (particularly the IDW-styled ones) are similarly G1 updates
-The standalones you mention are all G1 in one form or another; Jhiaxus is in the original Marvel comics, while Whirl and Roadbuster were G1 toys
-As WJ mentioned, Beast Wars is technically within the G1 timeline, so once again, figures like Rhinox, Rattrap, and Waspinator can be viewed as updates to that timeline
All of these characters are being reintegrated into a new storyline/continuity, but they're mostly G1 homages, with the nice addition of some new characters to cut our teeth on. This obsession you have with framing the argument as your openness to new-ness vs. others' hard and set ideology (seriously - you think we have an ideology???) does a real disservice to the complexities of what the Generations line can be to different people, and how the IDW comics have managed to breathe new life into this old brand.
^This x1000000! @Shockblast- You are not the welcoming, open-minded Transformers messiah you seem to think you are, as is clear from your dismissive, argumentative attitude, and everybody else is not a shut-in, whiny, 1984-obsessed group of collectors. By immediately dismissing other's arguments and reducing them to "NO IT'S NOT GEEWUN ENOUGH!1! ", you effectively shut down any possible opportunity for honest, open discussion and debate.

I'm still a bit bent out of shape that he's Leader class. I think that if they were going to give Prime the combiner treatment they should have figured a way to do the same to Megatron. After all, he did combine with the Constructicons a few times so if they aren't going to make Prowl a part of the set then they should have put Megs on the same scale as Prime and added him to the Titan class figure in some way or done SOMETHING to keep things even. Meh, it is what it is.
Cool figure. Too big, too shiny but damn it has some nice detail to it. I'll display it alongside my MP Prime if nothing else.

But the more I look at the toy, I also wonder if it was because while the original MM had a black truck cab, the whole toy is primarily grey since it's mostly the trailer. They may have felt making the truck all black might have made the the homage weaker, not stronger, especially since Motormaster has to compete with Nemesis Prime now in the black truck department.

Once again, Hasbro has gone with a deco that homages more closely the original toy than the G1 cartoon model. The layout of grey and black matches up to the G1 toy to a T. The only real deco difference is the purple accents all over the CW version, as opposed to the multicolored stickers found on the original.

Would you believe in the back? The wheel configuration as shown is actually reversed from the norm: 2 sets in the "front" and 1 set in the "back". Compare it with G1 and RotF G1 Mixmaster:
I think the faux cab folds into the chassis and the top swings around.

I think you're partially right. There does appear to be a door and window above the single wheel on Mixmaster, and it looks like the top does pivot around. However, the foot still appears to be part of the front cab. From vehicle mode, it looks like part of the cab folds out to form the foot and pivots around, leaving just the doors to plug into Devastator's leg.
Sorry if I'm not describing this well.

I agree, it looks too much like a cab not to be. I think the figure pivots quite a bit to make this happen. At least, I find it more likely than having a bunch of fake kibble front and back.
