Review of Glu’s Mobile Phone Transformers Game

The folks at Glu were kind enough to let me have check out their Transformers game based on the upcoming movie for cell phones. I must say I was very impressed with what Glu put together.

The game play is not overly complicated and can be learned rather quickly. Game play makes use of most of the key pad. However, there are not many difficult button combinations. Some people will need to use both hands while playing, while most will only need to use one.

When the game starts you are contacted by Bumblebee and given your mission. You will play your way through the games as the Autobot leader, Optimus Prime. The goal is to rescue your fellow Autobots. Though out the game you will remain in contact with Bumblebee. When you reach certain areas marked by a blue bubble you will be able to contact him. Bumblebee gives advice on how to use your control, and how to advance. At times it is very important to listen to the little bot. These bubbles are not as numerous as you advance in the game.

The game is an action packed plat former. As Prime you must, punch, jump, blast, and transform your way through each level. You have to master all of Prime’s skills to get by as you advance. None of the jumps are overly difficult, though you some require more skill than others. The enemies in the game are not pushovers, but they are not very difficult to defeat. The combination of enemies and jumps add to the challenge of the game with out being overly frustrating.

After beating the first level you will be brought to a map screen. From this point you will be able to choose different paths. Though the game play is repetitive it does not feel like it at. Each stage is set up with a different set of jumps and back ground. Once you start playing you will not want to stop.

The graphics for the game are awesome for a cell phone game. They remind me of a Nintendo game with better graphics. The nostalgia adds to the fun in my opinion. I use to love those old SNSES games and this game helps bring back those memories. I could play the game for hours.

I would suggest giving Glu’s Transformers game a try. Tough the graphics are not XBOX 360 or Playstation 3 quality for a cell phone game the graphics are great. Glu’s Transformers game is very enjoyable and can help pass time.

You can try the game out by clicking here.

It looks like a normal NES release.

It does look like it should be a great game. A great side-scrolling NES game, but that's not a bad thing especially since this is for a mobile phone. Where'd Hotrod get SNES, though? I dunno if this would have been on SNES. Based on the graphics shown on the front page this should be a high end NES game IMO.

I like the ability to trial the game, it plays oddly, with the traditional down button used to jump..
Too bad my 5 year old Nokia wont play it :p

The jump button is only the down button on the computer keyboard. Telephone keypads are the other way around. wiht 1,2,3 at the top, instead of 7,8,9.

I downloaded the game last night. It isn't too bad though the controls are pretty annoying. I'd like a 'shoot' button rather than this lock-on and auto shoot business.
I got it off 3 Australia by the way. I went for tetris and left with TF.

Actually it couldn't be a NES game, too many on screen colors is how you can easily tell.

Are there spoilers in the game? Like major ones?

I had already read the 300 graphic novel, but O noticed when I was playing the cell game that there was a pretty huge spoiler at the end...

highlight, just in case someine hasnt seen it
showing Leonidas die

I've never downloaded any cell phones before. How does the payment plan work?

I've checked it out on my phone, and it says:

$2.99 Monthly Subscription
$6.99 Full Version

If I download the full version and pay $6.99, does that mean I still have to pay $2.99 every month I have the game?

Nope, it's yours forever. Even if you cahnge phones it will be DL'd onto your SIM card till you delete it.

It's good and bad getting the full version. One, it takes up memory and two after a a couple of days (unless its a Tetris type or puzzle game) you never want to play it again anyway after you complete it.

On the positive you get to have it forever.

Destron Prime's on the right page... When you grew up with a nintendo and was blown away by the snes, you can tell instantly where this game would have launched.

Damn youngins with their radeons and PS3's, when i was your age a gameboy was monochromatic, the screen was only visible in direct sunlight, ate 4aa batteries per hour and it weighed 2 lbs... Uphill in the snow, both ways!

you do realize that that isn't really a spoiler, considering its based partially off of a true event where 300 spartans ALL DIED.

You do realize that I wasn't spolied by it as I DID know that AND read the Frank Miller graphic novel beforehand?
What I'm saying is someone that didn't would have been. Not everyone knows history...trust me.

hi all seibertronians! i've downloaded the game (for USD 2.50 in Malysia) but already stuck in the hoover dam level and can't seem to advance, any leads? i've worked past the control room already, but still stuck in the same area! there's a wall which cannot break in hoover dam...
i think glu should have added more sound effects - it'll be cool for bumbleebee and prime to talk!
