I'm going to watch the movie again tomorrow so I'll make sure, but I'm pretty sure that was Soundwave.

@Counterpunch I listened to the podcast again today with Britney. She told me every time you paused while speaking she could imagine you shrugging your shoulders with your hands up, head tilted, making the "ehhh" face lol.

Thanks a lot guys for making the Podcasts happen and for the contest this week. It's really cool winning the tickets and poster. Thanks Ryan!

Just watched the film again yesterday. Pretty sure he's only ever on Soundwave's arm, as Megatron was bent over tending to the Hatchlings in that scene.

Got hold of DOTM today. Great movie, but not the epic Michael Bay promised. Besides too much human storyline, I had to hit rewind so many times to see who's who and who got killed. If you blink you miss certain characters that only have one or two cameos. Still have no idea who the large Einstein looking robot that got killed was. And was it Soundwave that killed him ??? Was that the mercedes bot Bumblebee killed or Soundwave ??? Who was the Ferarri autobot ??? I couldnt make out the name the one time they told him to report to a bay for weapon check. What was the little Einstein looking robots name that hung out with Wheelie ??? It sounded like Brains I think. So much, Im gonna have to watch it a few more times to catch on. But im gonna be the devils advocate and say that part 2 was the best. It had the best combination of action and chance to see the characters robot modes without having to press pause on the DVD. And I do plan on buying the collectors edition when it comes out to show my support. But for now I stay away from theatres to avoid screaming children and cellphone wielding teenagers which ruin any movie.

That's awesome. You totally got a copy in a Miami convenience store, right?

Que was the name of the Scientist looking bot that Barricade executed, and Brains was the little guy with Wheelie.

u watch a crappy bootleg and judge it off that? DOTM had some of the clearest pictures and robot definition of all the films. Soundeave was a Mercedes, there was a whole scene with Carly getting tormented by him revealing that.

I'm with First Gen on this, Rated X. You have to go see this at your local theater. Watching it at home, and on a bootleg no less, is just not how a movie like this should be seen, especially for the first time. Please, go see this at the theater and let us know what you think.

Thank you for advising parents not to take their young children to see this film. Most parents will probably ignore your advice but I glad to hear you say it. The most troubling thing about this film franchise has been the things that I, and I hope most others, find inappropriate for young children.

I’ve never been a quality control freak. HD, Blue Ray, and stereo surround sound are all over-rated to me. I grew up in the 80's when we didn’t have none of that and learned how to enjoy a movie the old fashioned way: WATCH THE MOVIE !!! I love AVI's just like I love KO’s. When it comes to my support for the movie, best believe ill be getting the deluxe edition when it comes out. But that could be in months and this is now. If you want a crying baby on your right, a facebook addict texting on your left, and are willing to miss good scenes just to take a 2 minute piss break, then go to the theater. Ill be at home watching it on my flat screen, feet up with an ice cold beer, pause button, and no distractions.

And no I did not know the Mercedes was Soundwave because everything moves so quickly and every Decepticon robot appeared to be silver in the quick glances they offered making it hard to tell who’s who.

But there's a whole scene about midway through the film where Soundwave and Laserbeak are the only big robots around, and Dylan even addresses Soundwave by name.

Fact: AVI's aka Bootlegs suck! Suck bigtime. There is no quality to them, they are poor copies. Not even copies, they're crap cam vids from some dudes phone. Always too dark, NEVER showing any form of definition, lucky if you get sound, and that crying baby and crazy FBer usually pop up as a black silhouette on an AVI and walk across the screen.

The scene with Soundwave lasted a good 5 plus minutes so he didn't blur by, you just couldn't tell who he was cause your bootlegs quality was horrible and you couldn't hear Patrick Dempsey tell Soundwave, by name mind you, to leave Carly alone.

So yeah, I went to the theatre, twice, to see the movie how it was meant to be seen, in all its IMAX 3D and 2D high definition glory and guess what, I saw every Transformers clearly, I knew who everyone was regardless of screen time, I say battle scenes that surpassed that of ROTF in clarity and definition and I got to cheer with everyone else when the Autobots kicked some Decepticon tail.

Im not knocking you for liking an ice cold brew and the comfort of your own home, but you cant tell me an 8 track is as good as and mp3 player, so theres no way an AVI beats a theatre screening. Sorry.

I dont see any "FACTS" here. Just a bunch of opinions from someone who prefers "hi-tech" stuff.

The scene with Soundwave lasted a good 5 plus minutes so he didn't blur by, you just couldn't tell who he was cause your bootlegs quality was horrible and you couldn't hear Patrick Dempsey tell Soundwave, by name mind you, to leave Carly alone.

My copy was actually pretty good in both picture and sound. Im just not a super hi tech quality freak. I grew up with VCR's, vinyl DJ records, and cassettes. I’m too busy enjoying the actual characters, dialogue, plot, etc. to notice if the picture is super de duper crystal sharp or if every sound is coming at me from a different perpendicular angle like in real life. I got my beer goggles on anyway so I wouldn’t even notice the difference if my AVI copy was stretched to fit an IMAX sized screen. All that hi-tech quality technology is just a lure to keep you spending money when the free stuff is out there for the taking. I’m not knocking you for buying into it, but I don’t. When they find a way to bootleg stuff in HD, 3D, etc, trust me, Hollywood will find another “only in theatres” technology to get your money. But for me it’s the actual movie that intrigues me, not how it is presented.

And for the last time, it wasn’t my picture quality that kept me from identifying the Mercedes as Soundwave. It was the speed of motion and the “all silver” Decepticon cast that had me puzzled. It was real easy to identify the Autobots no matter how quick they moved because most of them could be identified by their different color schemes.

Hope this helps clear up my point of view.

For the majority of his screentime, Soundwave stood still. And, again, he was referred to by name ("clearly", I might add) by both Megatron and Patrick Dempsey.

I saw Soundwave standing still (when laserbeak flew on his arm)

But the one time the Benz transformed it was so quick (and silver) that it was hard to tell who it was. And the tentacles that tormented Carly when she was trapped insife the Benz didnt really clue me in cause it seemed like everything in the movie had tentacles or dreads or something else swinging around. Maybe it was the beer. Ill watch it again right now. ;)

Finally got a chance to listen to the whole thing. Man that was a great bit of podcasting all around! It really calls my attention to something, though. Those uncut and uncensored bits were some pure comedic gold in several cases, and it really makes me wonder what else has been edited from previous 'casts you've done. I'm probably alone on this one, but I think with each new podcast, you should release it in two versions. The edited-for-content regular version, and the 18+ (or whatever it is where you live) uncut versions.

I can see problems arising where having an uncut version would prompt some people to say more outrageous things simply because it's not going to be censored, making the task of editing down the regular version very difficult, but it's just a suggestion.

On to my thoughts about the subject, and my two cents about some of the debates:

Prime's questionable command to the Autobots
I gotta disagree with Ryan about the "Kill them all" line. I know how passionate about the franchise and the characters you are, I fully understand your reasoning behind your opinion, I understand the purity of the character of Optimus Prime, and understand that in most circumstances any competent heroic leader character, even movie Prime with his sometimes brutal tactics (when needed, or called for) would not issue an order such as that to his troops. But in my view, by the end battle of this movie, he's just finally fed up with all the sh*t that the Decepticons are pulling on this innocent (by their war's standards) planet. The cons have made it abundantly clear that as long as they live, innocents will die, carnage and destruction will reign, and more friends will be lost. Having been killed once himself, and just escaping from another attempt by the Decepticons to wipe out the remaining Autobots, I think he finally realizes the decision that must be made, and communicates it to his men in the clearest way possible. To be perfectly honest, thinking back to when I was watching it, when he said it I thought to myself "About time, man." and then paid it no mind. Until I heard you all mentioning it, I had completely forgotten the line had even been said. It just didn't affect me that much as it sounded to me very much like something he would have said in the circumstances he was in. Just my opinion, mind you. My take on that one.

Starscream's portrayal
In the films alone (not counting supplemental material) he always came across to me as the guy waiting for the right time to take the top spot. Sure he was a sniveling whiny b*tch most of the time he was on screen, but Megatron's bigger and meaner, and will beat the crap outta him. I never took his subservience to be sincere. When the 'Cons first arrived on the scene in the '07 movie, sans Megatron, Starscream was calling the shots (he was an incompetent leader, but that's another story) but as soon as the big bad Megatron was revived, Starscream fell back into his role of lackey, knowing full well that if he were to attempt to rise above his station, get too big for his robo-britches, Megatron would probably kill him, or at least smack him around. Megatron's death led to Starscream's retreat. This is not necessarily an act of cowardice, but possibly a survival tactic as Starscream suggests a similar strategy to Megs at the end of ROTF after the Fallen gets thrashed. While Megatron was dead, Starscream continued his rule, only to have Megatron revive, and return to the Nemesis with a flair for domestic violence. Some could argue that it was Starscream's command that Megatron be rebuilt, but I sincerely doubt he'd put that much effort into it. More plausible that Soundwave coordinated the rescue op, possibly even under commands given to him before Megatron died (as a plan B) but this is just speculation. The third movie, as previously stated in the podcast itself, sees Starscream come to the realization that Megatron has a plan, a very long standing plan, a plan that hinged on an alliance between Megatron and Sentinel, and may be a useful leader after all... too bad a lowly human blew his head up. To be honest I actually think he kinda deserved that, and hey, Sam got a confirmed Decepticon kill (with Lennox getting the assist), score one for humanity!

The Wreckers
I was so glad, along with everyone else I've heard from, to hear the Wreckers NOT sound like Nascar fan redneck stereotypes. I'm not a Nascar fan myself, but I know a few people that are and those stereotypes do not make them happy, man. That decision, to me, made a potentially dangerous repeat of the twins fiasco a lot less of an issue. Additionally, anyone else think that their UK accents were a tribute to the fact that the Wreckers, as a team, started in the UK Marvel comics? I also liked the nod to the Wreckers of G1 (specifically IDW's continuity)with the ship they were tending being called Xantium. All in all they impressed me as new characters, enough so that I may actually shell out the cash for their deluxe class toys, and I was glad to see they didn't follow the example of every other Wreckers team, and die.

Shockwave
Was not pleased at all with his Darth Maul Syndrome (for those unaware of the meaning, Darth Maul from Star Wars Episode 1 was supremely hyped, such a big deal was made about the character, he even made it onto the cover of Time magazine. Come film time, he was on screen maybe fifteen minutes tops, said one or two lines, and got killed by one of the heroes, never to be heard from again, disregarded by time) For how much press Shockwave was given, I really expected him to do more than show up twice, dig around, walk around, shoot some stuff, say one real line (not counting unsubtitled Cybertronian speak) and then get offed. Truly a waste of a character, he might as well have not even been there. It coulda been anyone operating the driller thingy or whatever he was doing. He felt so superfluous and useless which, for such a cool design and awesome character model, felt really meaningless.

I've probably got more, but I'm way beyond tired and need to hit the sack, final thoughts from me on DOTM, though. Good movie. I went in expecting more of what we've gotten for the last two movies, and was pleasantly surprised by the scope and feel of the movie. It's not gonna be a big award winner, no best actors or anything here (though it should definitely get an effects nod for the awesome job they did with everything, especially the destruction in Chicago) but it was definitely fun and entertaining, and looked amazing! Sad to see the movie franchise come to a close (myself from 2006-2007 would never believe I just said that  ) but glad that they ended it on such a high note!

Keep up the awesome podcasting, and hope to hear from you guys again in a week or two!

Yo, long time listener, first time caller. Enjoying this podcast thus far, I'll be sure to listen to the rest. Just a thought, though: Doesn't it seem like you find yourself rationalizing the characterizations in the TF movies? For example, Prime's rationale in killing Sentinel & Megatron. IMO, it's obvious that the choices of the filmmakers (The director? The writers?) do a disservice to Prime, as they do to the other Transformers, & we're left to rationalize them as best we can, e.g. "Prime needed to kill them because they'd never stop, they'd murder every human." A better writer and/or director would've found a better denouement, e.g. Prime stopping Sentinel, Megatron submitting to Prime, & Starscream betraying Megatron. That's Transformers 101, but that's not what we got.

Also, for the record, it's egregious that Soundwave didn't get his synthesizer voice. Seriously, it would've taken all of 30 seconds to do that bit of legitimate fan service & they didn't do it. That shit is straight unforgivable.

I agree about Soundwave's voice, and I think they cheapened Shockwave my not giving him the sneering accent we've come to know and love.

It's possible we're applying more depth than there is, but the same can be said about some of the fluff in the G1 cartoon.

ingenieur wrote:Yo, long time listener, first time caller.

Maybe, but pretty much all Transformers fiction is terrible at its core. It all requires some degree of rationalization, imagination, and even a bit of suspended disbelief.

Though, in this instance, I really don't think the Decepticons would have stopped. Both Sentinel and Megatron were manically devoted towards their cause of saving Cybertron at any cost (which for their race was the right decision). In a larger moral context, Optimus was right to put a stop to their scorched earth policy.

In this instance, I really DO believe that Optimus upheld the integrity of the matrix and its call for freedom for all sentient beings. Afterall, Sentinel's plan was slavery...

Thank you Seibertron for the IMAX ticket contest and the awesome podcast. Finally saw the film on Sunday at 10:15 in IMAX and the theater was nearly 3/4 full. I thought I would almost have the whole place to myself. I thought the movie was special effects awesome! Robots kicking robot ass. Flipping cars, killing innocents. Sentinel Prime-brutal. Story- so-so. Love interest- hard to believe and unnecessary. Some scenes a bit choppy. I thought I missed a part of a scene. Did not like some of Optimus's dialogue.Sam's arm should be missing like Optimus's. Shockwave cool but too short on film and why not just speak english? When Sentinel Prime woke up wouldn't he speak Cybertronian first?Overall- great action, jumpy story. Looking forward to DVD extras. Thanks again.
Till all are one.
