With all the things this figure has going for it I wonder how many people will be willing to buy more than one? There could be an argument to be made for buying two or even three for display purposes. Let us know in the Energon Pub forums if you plan on buying one or more.

Fingers crossed for this. However, because of the pandemic (thank you, China!) Mandarake only ship by EMS at the minimum. Ironically, it's still cheaper than buying anything from HP for this Canadian.

Yup. It's 30$US minimum in shipping fees just for a pack of bubble gum. Plus they charge the Canadian taxes on top. That's why unless it's for an insane exclusive like the HASLAB Unicron, it's worthless for a Canadian to order anything from Pulse.

It's just plain ass expensive to ship to Canada. I've shipped very recently using both the USPS and FedEx and it hurt my butt both times (fortunately the latter was paid by my employer). That is weird, my Kraken has the sleeve. In fact the sleeve made me realize just how random Hasbro's numbering system is for these. I wasn't really paying attention and thought they were shipping in order, but then I saw the big 02 on the box and thought they sent the wrong figure. When I saw it really was Kraken in the box I thought they put the wrong box on him, but no, I checked Gulf and he was 04. So really Hasbro just screwed up the number order since they're in the same release order as Takara Tomy.
TT-GS01 Star Convoy (release 1)
TT-GS02 Kraken (release 3)
TT-GS03 Turtler (release 2)
TT-GS04 Gulf (release 2)
TT-GS06 Lobclaw (release 3)
TT-GS07 Overbite (release 4)
TT-GS08 Tentakill (release 4)
TT-GS09 Super Megatron (release 5)
Now, did you notice there's no 05? That's been known for a while and there was a theory that the Super Megatron was meant to be 05 because he was teased at the same time as Turtler and Hasbro had already reserved that number. But now I can see that wasn't the case at all because I happened to catch this on the order receipt that came with Kraken.
Yep, Kraken was supposed to be 05 and it makes ALL the sense in the world. So how the heck did he end up out of order as 02? And was Super Megatron supposed to be 02 because that makes sense as well instead of thinking he'd be plopped in between Seacon releases? And if not Super Megatron then who did they think was going to be 02 originally? If they already printed the boxes and didn't want to waste them (character names aren't on the boxes, just their ID numbers) then it's a Deluxe box so it's a bit of a mystery.

Other than the tease of Armada Prime, I cant wait to see any future reveals from the TT portion of the selects line.

Only problem is... He's already had his number listed. He's TT-GS09. We're still missing 05.

Tbh G1 toys are the last thing I turn to for scale. You know, TR Sentinel Prime into Sky Garry and a massive retool of Alpha Trion/Broadside into Sky Garry could work. Interestingly both figures might have the space (with retooling) to fit in a proper head and ditch the headmaster gimmick.

Emerje wasn't just talking about toys though:
So Grandus and Sky Garry definitely could be Voyager or Leader-sized figures. Grandus would probably still have to be a new mold given his bulk, but I could definitely see a Sky Garry from an existing mold. The choices you mention seem like they could work pretty well.

It wasn't just the toys.
He's no titan.
BTW, the Selects comics did give Star Convoy a base mode.
I've been thinking that the TR Astrotrain/Sentinel Prime mold could probably form a decent base for Sky Garry as well. Probably easier than Broadside and far easier than Alpha Trion.

I've been curious about the missing number #5 for awhile and I thought you might have solved it until I took a look at my packing slip for Turtler and Gulf which read 'TRA TT GS ARSENAL' and 'TRA TT GS MANCHESTER' so I'm not sure if the 5 on yours is actually related to the missing number or just maybe coincidental randomness. I previously thought nemesis prime was gonna be in that slot but his number is SG-6 which I think just relates to the normal siege line in Japan (which also means there are technically two different SG-6s in their line). I also think Megatron will stay in the 9 spot so #5 might still be up in the or just skipped altogether for whatever reason. Perhaps armada prime

TBH, I think Metrotitan would be good for a Titan Selects. He's the sort of guy only a few collectors would want and not a guy I think we'll see at retail.
Posted by Sabrblade on April 9th, 2020 @ 11:44pm CDT
For Devastator, he's more MP scaled than CHUG scaled, so he's kind of an exception from how big he ought to be in a CHUG scale.Gauntlet101010 wrote:If we're talking about sizes and scale, titan class was also way too large for Devestator and Omega Supreme. For Omega, he was definitely bigger than Skyfire, but also Combiner-sized. But, Commander class Jetfire is already Combiner-sized, so scaling Omega to Titan class Devastator was the only sensible option for him.

I think TF Source gets their figures direct from Japan so the delay might have to do with what's going on in the world.

Speaking of which, my last Mandarake box out of four bounced back to Japan. Now U have to pay 1300 yen more to get it back via EMS.
Also, my Age 3 and Up order was shipped on Monday but since then, it still haven't left it's hometown way back in British Columbia.

Devestator isn't MP sized; he'd have to be bigger. IMO, I think that the older YotS Omega is best when it comes to scaling with t30 Jetfire also scaling better. Devestator just loses in this equation. But they made him the odd one out.
You could go the OS KO route and just have all the other combiners be at titan class with Devestator, though, which would probably be more accurate. I don't have those, however. Can't say for sure.
I'm just saying that G1 scale is a real losing game. Especially between combiners and citybots. So if they decide to do a guy like Grandius ... they may as well make him a titan too. Scale is all bonkers anyway. We can only do our best with what our budget allows and with what was put out.

I don't agree with that. HasTaks commitment to scale has reinvigorated my collecting. Now, if you mean it's a losing game because it's not perfect, well...it's really hard for it to be perfect.

Then we'll just have to agree to disagree here. I don't think combiner height will ever be quite right and that's not even going into minibots or Dinobots. Even if Hasbro's finally trying.
Omegas rival is Devy afterall so it wouldn't make much sense for him to be smaller
But there's also a lot more episodes where he's the same size as the other combiners in combined mode. I guess it depends on how you structure your collection. Will he stand next to Omega or the other Decepticon combiners? For me, since I'm not going into OS KO CW Devy and Titan Omega are too tall.
In the end either titan Omega and Devy are too large or all the other combiners are too small. And all the combiners mass shift anyway.
TBH, if I had infinite money and storage space I'd get KO OS CW Combiners to be combined and let the official guys be uncombined with Titan OS as my OS. That would be just about right, I think. Buuuut .... I don't have that.
But I'm going really off topic when everything is supposed to be Selects.

I think whoever did the packing slip was a big fan of UK foot ball. I don't have the slip any more for those two, but I did get a new slip for TT-GS06 Lobclaw that arrived today and here's the description.
My theory remains intact, Kraken was likely original meant to be 05 before being changed to 02.

Due to their exclusive nature, other sites are stuck with middlemanning these so you don't really get a better price.

It's all because Canada is treated as an international destination. There is no preferential treatment to it being near the US. So you incurr all the costs that come with the idea of shipping internationally.

But if you don't want to chance it, here is a preorder for you. Please note, the image they chose for the listing is wrong.

We don't know their specific cost for this item, it might be that their middleman costs are higher this time. Something Hasbro doesnt have to worry about. Plus, since I am assuming many americans are going to go to Pulse, TFSource is getting orders from international buyers who can't get from Pulse, and thus there is no to be more competitive in pricing.

Yeah, it's a real mess thanks to the combiners mass-shifting to be larger than the sum of their parts.Gauntlet101010 wrote:sol magnus wrote:Omegas rival is Devy afterall so it wouldn't make much sense for him to be smaller

In the end either titan Omega and Devy are too large or all the other combiners are too small. And all the combiners mass shift anyway.
CW Devastator in combined mode is Devastator at his combination-enabled mass-shifted size relative to normal-size TFs, at the price of the individual Constructicons being too big and the combined mode being out-of-scale with other combiners. The same generally applies to Predaking.
The other combiners have their individual members in-scale. They're thus not "step on everyone" size relative to normal-size TFs (note that I specify "normal-size TFs") like they are in the cartoon, although they're still of a respectable size due to not having midget limb-bots.
SIEGE Omega Supreme... He's as big as he should be next to normal-size TFs and mass-shifted Devastator, but too huge next to the standard CW-style combiners much like Devy is.
I will say that there is a way to make the standard CW combiners look the mass-shifted size: Legion-class figures.
Regarding Piranacon/King Poseidon, since I'm assuming he probably came up in this discussion at some point... Piranacon never got to appear in the cartoon since in the US new episodes stopped in 1987, so it's hard to say how big he would have been in it. And the Marvel comics were even more hopeless than the cartoon so using them as a reference is iffy.
But we do have a more solid size reference on the King Poseidon end of things. In Masterforce he was in the same league as Super and God Ginrai size-wise, so being basically standard CW/PotP combiner size works out perfectly there.
Myself, I'd go with an undersize KO of Devastator (easier on space, gives better-scaled individual 'Structies, and it just makes more sense to get a smaller Devy than huger versions of everyone else b/c the others outnumber Devy), an undersize KO of Omega Supreme (once one exists) to have one in show-scale with the combiners, and Titan-class Omega to have a version of him that scaled with normal-size TFs.Gauntlet101010 wrote:TBH, if I had infinite money and storage space I'd get KO OS CW Combiners to be combined and let the official guys be uncombined with Titan OS as my OS.
