Variety wrote:“Transformers: Robots in Disguise” will be the name of Hasbro’s new animated series starring its shape-shifting characters.
...
Series will introduce a redesign of Bumblebee and introduce new Autobot characters Sideswipe and Fixit (see above).
Criss will voice Sideswipe, while Whitfield will bring Fixit to life.
Show takes place years after “Transformers Prime,” when Bumblebee is summoned to save Earth from a new faction of Decepticons and assembles a rogue team of young Autobots that includes a rebel bad boy bot, an elite guard cadet, a bombastic Dinobot and hyperactive Mini-Con to capture their new enemies.
Each new bot is a fully capable action hero but inexperienced in working together in a team, forcing Bumblebee to become both squad leader and coach, Hasbro said.

The only design choice here that bothers me is Sideswipe's hair/head. It makes him look way too much like Knockout especially given how his face appears white. Otherwise, the body design is pretty spot on for your classic style Sideswipe. I'm more curious about which Cons will be around. Especially regarding who's leader now.

We already have a show AND a comic by that same name; come on, Hasbro. Get more creative here. It's going to cause some major confusion. I'm hoping that they change the subtitle to something else.

As if having RiD the show and RiD the completely unrelated comic wasn't confusing enough, now there's another show with the name not connected to the other show OR the comic. (Also, this probably kills any chance of Shout Factory trying to untangle whatever is is keeping them from releasing the first RiD on DVD.)
And yeah, Sideswipe looks totally like Knock Out.

Bumblebee: Thank the lords that this chap isn't going to be kid appeal. Now, get the gold spraypaint, it's time for a little goldbug.
Fixit: KILL IT! KILL IT! KILL IT!
Unknown Elite Guard Cadet: ???
Unknown Bombastic Dynobot: I can haz see? Pleeze?
Also, I do believe this has potential. I'll probably check it out. Also, I do actually kind of hope one of our two mystery characters is a strong female role, like what we got with PRID Arcee. It'd be even better, or maybe wonkier, if that female role was the dinobot.
....Also, how exactly is this going to be robots in disguise with a DINOBOT on the team? You do not choose a prehistoric animal with subtly in mind.
Also, Decepticons: Bring out your wishlist, everyone: Intimidating, ruthless leader that isn't Megatron, a powerful predacon on board, hapless mooks......Mebbe....Tarantulas? Nah, that'd be going too far.

Plot twist: Science has advanced to a point where they revived dinosaurs.

No, it's not. Shokaract or Dirt Boss would be going too far. Tarantulas doesn't seem that unreasonable.
As far as my wishlist? Well, they're not Decepticons per se, but I'd love for Predaking to come back (and possibly bring Skylynx and Darksteel with him. Maybe Backbite from the comics, too, though that's probably a stretch.) And I wouldn't necessarily mind new Predacons, either, though I somehow doubt that's going to happen.
As for who I'd like to see from past continuities, how about Tidal Wave, Lockdown, Thrust (BM), Sideways(Armada/Cybertron), Smolder, Waspinator, and Oil Slick?

Megatron's reformed, so instead of rehashing what's old, this seems like a good opportunity to start from the ground up with an original character to make his (or her) name in history.
In fact, what if this time the main Decepticon leader was a female!

As far as Autobots go I'm thinking Sideswipe is the loose canon hotshot that doesn't listen to orders, Fixit will be the know-it-all that thinks he has all the answers, the cadet will be the by the books character that constantly brings up protocol, and the Dinobot will be the muscle that just likes to break stuff and rampage.

I was trying to stay away from G1 guys since they tend to get more love than non-G1 guys. I almost put Ruination on the list, but then I remembered there's already a FoC Ruination toy, so that'd make things confusing.

This. Aren't we getting any Japanese style animation of the guys anymore? The toys are gonna be like the previous 2 incarnations again.

Every TF cartoon aside from Beast Wars and Beast Machines has been animated in Japan or its neighboring Pacific Asian countries. This one will likely be no different.fenrir72 wrote:This. Segway body-style? Yay!
Spiky pompadour? Weird, but OK.
Sideswipe having a similar body design as Bumblebee, and Fixit basically having BB's old face? *sigh*
I assume the Decepticons will take cues from Age of Extinction, i.e. Lockdown, Galvatron, etc.

Hmmmmm hope we see Stinger that would be cool but instead of human made he could be an unstable Decepticon experiment with the unstableness giving the ability to split apart into a swarm.

According to the official announcement, the characters are. "Taking place years after the battle between Autobots and Decepticons in “Transformers Prime,” this all new series centers around our hero Bumblebee stepping up to lead a brand new team of Autobots. The show features an all-star cast with Will Friedle (“Boy Meets World”) returning as Bumblebee, along with Darren Criss (“Glee”), Constance Zimmer (“House of Cards”) and Ted McGinley (“Married with Children”). Blending 3D characters with hand-painted environments, the series mixes action-packed adventure with lots of comedy, making it a rip-roaring experience for kids and families to enjoy together."

Bumblebee is Bumblebee, I guess I'm a bit bored with him.
Sideswipe is a bit human looking for my taste, I dislike TFs with hair (I'm looking at you Nightscream )
Fixit is soooo totally
As for the Elite Guard Cadet and the Dinobot, my hopes are Tailgate (Homage to MTME being under the painful tutelage of Magnus) and Grimlock (I have a feeling after AOE we'll be seeing more of him)

And then I want Cosmos repainted into the aliens from Batteries Not Included. Better yet, take G1, Universe and Generations Cosmos and make them all the aliens from that movie and sell them in a multipack.

Maybe I'm also pessimistic because the art style shift and the fact that this will be lighter in tone than Prime strikes me as similar to Ben 10 Omniverse: Galactic Monsters, which I was enjoying, but has unceremoniously disappeared from Saturday morning on CN, just as all Ben 10 toys are having the bejeezus clearanced out of them. Between that, and the continuing consequences of high plastic prices, I just have this terrible feeling. I was fine with the trend of western-audience action cartoons being more lighthearted for a few years if it ensured their survival, but now I'm worried it's somehow strangling them out of existence.
Consensus has been that Prime was the darkest, most serious TF cartoon we'll see for over a decade, but if there are no rewards to be reaped from going lighter, then the next elements of the Bay movies that should be copied are the epic, cataclysmic ones. End the lighthearted TF series by throwing the audience a curve and carpetbombing our planet, then close out Aligned with a series set on post-apocalyptic Earth. Hell, there were a lot of '80s toy franchises with post-apocalyptic settings, but Transformers has only had that in glimpses of possible futures (ex: Rythems of Darkness), so at least it'd be something kind of new to TF, right?

You can purely blame Cartoon Network for that since that channel seems to hate any action show that's of any particularly decent quality. All that channel ever seems to care about is airing garbage shows and Adventure Time.Bumblevivisector wrote:Maybe I'm also pessimistic because the art style shift and the fact that this will be lighter in tone than Prime strikes me as similar to Ben 10 Omniverse: Galactic Monsters, which I was enjoying, but has unceremoniously disappeared from Saturday morning on CN, just as all Ben 10 toys are having the bejeezus clearanced out of them. We already got a post-apocalyptic series: Beast Machines. Sure, it was a post-apocalyptic Cybertron instead of a post-apocalyptic Earth, but post-apocalyptic is still post-apocalyptic.Bumblevivisector wrote:Consensus has been that Prime was the darkest, most serious TF cartoon we'll see for over a decade, but if there are no rewards to be reaped from going lighter, then the next elements of the Bay movies that should be copied are the epic, cataclysmic ones. But, seriously, what would possibly be gained from going with such a depressing premise? What's the deal with the push towards more darkness and dreariness? We just got a series that had a dead world that was finally restored to life after thousands of years. Why the shift back to square one with another dead planet after all that work to bring life back to the first one?
