We get a good look at the T-Rex mode and how its eyes can move and also how the pupil can dissapear when used in robot mode.
We also get a full designer interview, which Google translated for us below. With the knowledge that the MSRP is above $300 USD, how many of you are still as excited as before? And have any of you chosen not to get him? The Japanese retailers, like site sponsor HLJ, usually have them for less (leaving the importing costs for you to handle), but how much less would he have to be for those of you still on the fence? Let us know!
Q. What was the background of the commercialization this time?
From the very beginning, when the decision to release Beast Wars in the masterpiece series came out, there was a concept itself. Actually, the size of the convoy was also calculated back from the megatron, as we have created comparison charts of major characters at the beginning of the development of the convoy. So, I think that the size of the overwhelming megatron in the symbolic scene that the convoy throws away is reproduced.
Q. What is the point of the product?
Since the current masterpiece is aiming for the reproducibility as if it comes out from the TV, it is necessary to include "to incorporate the talking gimmick", "to reproduce the shape of the middle of the play" To realize mobility beyond common sense "was the point. Megatron is a character that towed the popularity of the work with the talk part, so we recorded a total of 30 kinds of sounds. The voice also contains the multiplication with Black Widow and Navigator, but Ichi push is the reproduction of the opening of 13 episodes. Starting with the melody called Jahn, "Wahaha, I am the destroying great megatron, it is the beginning of the beast wow!" And recorded until the song started. As the sound effect enters firmly into the chorus part, I would like you to take it in hand, remembering the animation of that time and get depressed.
Q. What was the hardest part of development?
The obvious difference between the BW version of the toy at the time and the play was on the back. It was the most impressive place behind the head, so it was the most difficult point at how to show this like a play. Since you can not change the area of the dinosaur's gawa, it is hidden and reproduced by distributing with that hand. Even so, I have folded the leftover part on my back. Besides, BW version of toy at that time is changing for dinosaurs because of the circumstances that the knees are getting shorter, but in this masterpiece version we aim at a balance that does not feel discomfort in both dinosaurs and robots.
Q. What is the evolutionary point of the recent masterpiece series?
In order to reproduce it more thoroughly, it is possible to move to the place where you move the eyeball of the dinosaur mode. Since the head of the dinosaur mode is clogged with sound units, it has a minimum space-saving structure, but by making it movable, you can enjoy the change of facial expressions and the white eye condition of robot mode can be reproduced It is. In the fourth bulletin, the Destron Major corps destroyed megatron appeared, but I'd like to be able to arrange the main characters of Cybatron and Destron all together in a masterpiece, so please look forward to future developments as well.

Indeed. Second tallest to Megs himself. However, in terms of bulk, they are worlds apart. The only one even approaching the broad scale of Megatron is Rhinox. HasTak would be aware of that, so the price can only come down from here... At least for the rest of the Season One cast. They couldn't charge anywhere near this price point for Blackarachnia, Airazor or Rattrap, for example.

Sure, instead of 300$ for the other figures, it would only be 200$

I really wish this would underperform sale wise simply to teach them a lesson on not inflating the price just cause its a popular character.
Much like how a camera adds 5 pounds, electronics like lights and sounds add $100 to any toy.

to name the 2 foot figures, 2 3rd party omega supremes made by weijang and DX9 both cost less than this thing at 200-250,

considering that leader classes could fit electronics in and have great engineering yet be at 50 bucks or under, i call BS on this having an extra 100 bucks from electronics.... this is just takara riding off the popularity and trying to get as much cash out of its loyalists.

First there's the size of him. He's significantly larger than Primal, in length, width and depth.
Alsmost as tall as MP-36 and with a large volume because of all the dino bits.
Second We don't know how complicated he is. For all we know, he has a very involved transformation. He appears to be very poseable and we can see that he has most of his dino body folded into panels on his back in lots of sections, whereas the Ultra had just 2 large flaps and a small one. More parts = more cost.
Third, he has a premium paintjob, going by his photos. I think you'll have to search for unpainted surfaces and it's a complicated paintscheme too, not simply single-colour. More and difficult paint = more cost
Fourth, he does come with electronics. And while he apparently has a light like Primal does, he also has a soundbox in his dino-head with a large selection of clips from the show etc. While leader-class toys have had sound, those were usually in the form of a large, boxy torso. With MP-36 they fitted it into his cannon, which was a good solution because it doesn't have to transform. Here they didn't have much of an option other than to cram it into the dino head along with the light, and if you want small size electronics it's going to be more expensive than when you have an entire torso for 2 AA batteries plus the other stuff. I should mention that i'm not a fan of the electronics, mostly because it's in japanese. I'd much have preferred David Kaye's voice or otherwise just the light.

Yes and no. Takara\Hasbro only have a finite level of production capacity. The demand is high, but the supply has remained the same - so the price goes up. I don't call that squeezing, its just normal business practice.
At worst, I see this as Takara jumping the gun on eBay resale prices 6 months after the toy isn't available. Only its retail, so somehow it "feels" more painful.

Sorry, but that doesn't hold water when you compare it to the larger and more complex MP 36 Megatron, which cost $100 less.

I remember saying to Jelze a while ago that I would only consider BW Primal if BW Megatron was announced, but now it has... and the toy is awesome - the price makes me want to hold out for MP Prime V3...

I took a break for a bit (I still lurked on here), went to come back and couldn't log in (forgot my password), then realized I couldn't access the email account for my original account. Sent a message to Admin, who then accidentally nuked my old account from Lunar Base 1 into oblivion.

1. I wasn't being serious, I know such a thing doesn't exist.
2. Those two are simply cartoon accurate in design, but no more complex than any Titan (they're also too damn big and not Transformers). In fairness a true MP Omega probably wouldn't be any more complex than those, but would probably retain all of the electronics of the original toy. It would probably also cost $500 so don't expect that to ever happen.

you use for the extra 100 bucks) in him, what's the extra 100 bucks? inflation does not happen that quickly, there is no way an extra $100 is justifiable.

Defend what? I freely admitted the price was insane. But it's a special figure, only a few released a year, I got the money, and most importantly I want it. Not much more to it than that.Octobotimus wrote:It seems that my point has proven that loyalists will defend takara no matter what.

You know I was exaggerating, right? Even then, electronics nowadays do add more than you'd think: in 2005, Cybertron Primus was $50 give or take. The TRU exclusive Primus from this year was a whopping $150. That's not inflation alone talking, plus electronics are all but excised from most toys since 2009, reserved for the larger gimmicky ones.

wilcosu35 wrote:Question to the USA members since i'm guessing you're most likely to buy from BBTS: What kind of tax would you need to pay if you were to import this through a Japanese shop like HLJ? It's a certain percentage?
Japan doesn't charge taxes on exports and the stores aren't obligated to collect US taxes since they aren't American. We also don't have to pay any kind of fees on Japanese imports. Only thing you have to worry about it is shipping costs, but I feel like BW Megatron won't cost a ridiculous amount to ship and the total on importing will probably still be cheaper than buying from BBTS or TFSource.
ZeroWolf wrote:Unless you're Japanese (who this toy is made for) though would hasbro enlist Mr kaye if they released it domestically...or would they ditch all eltrontics other than the light
Knowing Hasbro they'd probably keep the electronics and then hire someone like Jon Bailey so do their best Kaye impression to save costs.
Sadly the cost of electronics in the modern world are always going to be a problem. The supply of silicon used to make all electronics is dwindling while demand continues to climb pushing the prices up and taking the cost of electronics up with them. Adding a voice chip is just another issue, look at what that did to the price of Encore God Fire Convoy, nearly tripled its price from 2000.

Really a reversal when back in Superlink, Takara canned the voice clips/sound effects over the HB versions.
Now we get them beasties doing the noisy stuff.
