No, not quite. Strafe is in red and white while SG Cyclonus is in Rodimus' colors.

Sure. If Shattered Glass Cyclonus wasn't introduced first and people were buying Strafe to pose as him.
This is a WILL buy. Guess I'm gonna have to do a custom Galvatron though.

And yet, I love that they're doing more Shattered Glass. But I doubt it can go for too much longer unless they can do something out of the park, like the Energon Structies in white/red.

The free figure this year wil be Dion, which is a repaint of Universe Hot Shot.
You will have to pay for this fig, however members will get a major discount on it (and the counterpunch); somewhere between 20-40 dollars.

Okay, that's cool. Thanks for the info. Doesn't sound like a bad deal at all.

w00t! I can pay $120AU to save about $50AU!
Or I could spend a few grand to get discounted BotCon tickets.
Not impressed with the colour scheme, never liked the Shattered Glass storyline, so this year is looking to be a pass on membership.

Actually, now that I think about it, it would have been better for the Club if they had done Omega Doom instead. Sure it a bigger toy and would require a head remold, but they could repaint him into Supreme, and even Spreem, to help recoup the cost. Maybe a future BotCon exclusive?

IceWilly wrote:Can someone give me enough information on Punch/counterpunch to tempt me to join? I realize you can't reveal pictures or whatever, but is it based off an existing classics/universe mold?
As far as I'm aware, there's been no images of the toy itself, or even a photoshop mockup of it. However he will use the Universe Sunstreaker/Sideswipe mold and will have a new head mold.

Actually there were some pics made available by the collectors club site. Notably, the designs for the 2 Heads.

Anyway, Punch/CounterPunch is going to use the Universe Suntreaker/Sideswipe Mold. Which already has all the transformation necessary to accommodate both robot modes.
No TFCC exclusive has ever been a new mold they always use existing molds with minor changes and a new paint scheme.
Now of course this figure is not the Membership Free Figure. Rather Just another of the TFCC figures than can be purchased from the TFCC store.
BBTS will likely carry it for Non members as well at a better price than the club's Non-Member Price no doubt.
The Free Membership figure is going to be Dion a repaint of Universe Armada Hot Shot.

Four color schemes from a Cyclonus mold? And they sell like hotcakes? Now that's just expert marketing.

I had hoped that we had seen the last of the Shattered Glass storyline. Never been a fan of "heroic" Decepticons and "evil" Autobots. Doesn't make any sense at all. Fun for a "what if" storyline but not for an entire BotCon set, club comics and additional club exclusive figures.
Also not a fan that the Cyclonus mold has now been used twice as an "Autobot". I call blasphemy.
Surprised so many of you like this.

I'll second this. I can't believe the SG storyline has lasted this long.

I've got to go with the boss man on this one. I bought SG Rodimus for his cool goatee, but that's where the fascination with the storyline ended for me. This doesn't look bad, but I'm still on the fence. Punch/Counterpunch is a no-brainer, but this one might be a no-buyer.

So two deluxes as the exclusives? And they will cost probably $40 each. Not sure on this guy. SG does nothing for me, even though it was interesting at the time, but to keep it going. The comic is done with that arc as well, I would suppose their next club comic arc will focus on Punch/Counterpunch.
So I take back my immediate, "I'll get it" and I'll wait to see if it's significantly different enough to spend the money for.

Of course, it's been sold as Cyclonus, Cyclonus, Strafe and Cyclonus. So outside of Strafe they still haven't done anything wowing with the mold.

And that's definitely a matter of opinion. IMO the Hasbro version was the best as long as you carefully take a silver metallic sharpie to his face. The light lavender Takara Tomy version just doesn't do it for me.

I actually really like both versions (Universe and Henkei), just saying they haven't found any other uses for the mold outside of Cyclonus himself.

And thats a bad thing? With reasoning like this, we'll never see new molds that won't be designed specifically for the purpose of repaints.
I thought Cyclonus himself was enough WOW, but if you're reasoning a molds values based off its repaintablility, we will see nothing but a barrage of Seeker repaints, and another 50 Optimus Primes.

I think you missed my point. I'm just saying it's not really worth patting anyone on the back for repainting Cyclonus into Cyclonus.
There's plenty of other things Hasbro and everyone else could do with that mold. No one saw Fracture coming from Classics Mirage, repaint Cyclonus into another Go-bot, or better make up a NEW character to repaint him into.
I'm not saying a mold should always be designed for repaints, I just think they should come up with better repaints.

I'm pretty sure this is already something that Hasbro and Takara Tomy takes into consideration with each mold they create. I think if you look at the span of the Transformers brand since 1994 (starting with G2's new molds ... the 93 molds were carry overs from Europe, with the exception of Megatron (who was repainted in BWII)), you'll see that the majority of the toys have been repainted at least once or twice.
Sideswipe and Sunstreaker are the PERFECT example of Hasbro really thinking through the process of reusing a mold later on. I think they should do this on all character specific molds, such as Cyclonus. Something they should have done with Cyclonus' mold is figure out what to do with the "ears" in robot mode. If they had just gotten creative with the ears such as the ability to remove them to combine them as a weapon or to fold them back during the transformation process, it would've easily provided them with a unique mold to use as another character or two.
I must admit that I prefer drastic repaints over minor repaints released as the same character later down the road, though when I look at it from a marketing perspective, I get why Hasbro is doing minor repaints because it keeps the primary character on the shelf longer but with a different SKU (?) which keeps retailers happy because it's a "new" product.
Posted by Overcracker on December 31st, 2009 @ 2:25pm CST
And with the way they wings are made, they could probably mold a new pair of wings rather easily and make a new character out of the same basic mold.
I could easily see them repaint it into say Snapdragon minus the dragon mode. Or a Gobot.
I think this mold is going to see a regular release repaint/remold (perhaps a store exclusive) for the 2010 re-launch of the Universe type line.
Just like Dinobot, and Cheetor, and even more likely Hot Shot. (anybody waiting for Powerlinx Hotshot? )

They've done that with other models too, such as Ironhide/ Rachet. I'm sure we'll see a Swindle repaint out of Hound in Universe 3.0 or whatever they plan to call it, but I was just saying that it is nice to see molds designed specifically for one character, and really only that character. Universe Cyclonus is perfect to me and I like that his mold is unique like Astrotrains and Tankor's (Octane).
