Top 5 Best Movie Bumblebee Toys
Bumblebee has so many movie verse toys out there that making one general Best Bumblebee list including all his incarnations was impossible. So, two lists were done, the best movie toys and everything else. This week we look at the best movie toys, which was a rather hard list to do since so many of his toys are mere improvements from one to the next. Of course, there were plenty that making a top 5 proved more than feasible. Let's get to it!
5. Transformers Dark of the Moon Cyberfire Bumblebee (MurderBee)
First of all, the base mold is pretty good and one of the best deluxe class movie Bumblebee toys we ever got. It's better than any other deluxe we got since (spoilers for the rest of this list) and it was the mold chosen by Takara to commemorate the best of the best for the movie lines (twice even). The Cyberfire redeco brings all that up an extra notch and it being such a striking CyberHellfire deco, especially with the light piping, that he was nicknamed Murder Bee. With such a singular deco, it means that no matter how many Bees they keep releasing it will always have a place in one's collection.
4. Transformers Hunt For The Decepticons Battle Ops Bumblebee (Costco)
Speaking of striking decos, we have this gorgeous gold redeco of the awesome Battle Op Optimus mold (which was released as a literal Masterpiece in Japan). While Bumblebee is a smaller character, him being so present in toylines and marketing means he has a lot of larger toys too and out of all the leader (or larger) sized movie Bee toys, this is the best mold we got. It had cool gimmicks that came with the size such as the ability to change from guardian to warrior mode in robot mode, which would give him different weapons and sound effects. Speaking of sound effects, pressing down on the front left end of the vehicle three times will play the first verse of the original Transformers theme song, and pressing it three more times will play the second verse. Plus he looks just plain awesome, and even better covered in that gold paint.
3. Transformers Human Alliance Revenge of the Fallen Bumblebee
This was the closest we got to a Masterpiece Movie Bumblebee in the right scale until we actually got one. It was even heralded as one of the best toys of the decade and I can see why. The impressive aspect here is that while it has a very accurate robot mode, the car mode has the extra accuracy of having an interior with seats. Even the later Masterpiece toy did away with that idea using the extra available space in car mode to store more robot parts. The fact that you can actually use this toy as a model car that can also seat figures inside is a true achievement in Transformers engineering and really sets it apart from anything that came before or since.
2. Transformers Hunt For The Decepticons Battle Blade Bumblebee
Easily the best deluxe Bumblebee toy and quite possibly the best value you ever got for your money. For the price of a deluxe, you get a toy with a very tall robot mode (so tall, it was repackaged as a voyager later) with integrated weapons and battle mask. Plus both modes looks great with a very accurate vehicle mode. While it is a rather complex toy, it is very solidly built, with tabs connecting well, unlike more annoying releases of movie Bumblebee that came out recently.
1. Transformers Masterpiece Movie Series MPM 03 Bumblebee
For a character that has so many movie toys, it is surprising how few stand out (aside from deco) and are actually good or worthy of a top 5 list. They feel like the transformers equivalent of the Call of Duty franchise where each one is slightly different than the previous one, with minor technical improvements, and little effort is put into making it truly amazing since it will sell regardless. Masterpiece MPM3 Bumblebee truly stands out though. A fully new mold, and the most accurate yet. I especially love how the feet come together and how the entire car shell collapses. I always love when a figure gives a hint of what is actually happening in the film, where the bot's insides are the car and vice-versa. You see where everything goes and that fascinates me. Lots and lots of smart designs here, like the tiny back wings, and well worth its name.
Honourable Mentions: MPM Volkswagen Bumblebee. It's a very good toy and far better than any other Bumblebee toy that came out in 2018, the year he got his own film. You can tell that Hasbro really wanted to give its best output possible, it's just too bad that the CG model they used was so inaccruate. In the years to come, when Hasbro will have released more accurate looking toys, this will always remain a decent, yet expensive, toy that doesn't really represent a specific version of the character well enough (a lot like Legendary Optimus Prime).

That Battle Ops Bee is one of my favorite also.
The HA is outdated and in storage.
Battle Blades Bee is an unbeatable classic and I'd make it interchangeable between him and the MPM. Just for the play value and fun factor.
MPM lost a few points for having annoying panels to deal with when putting him back into vehicle mode.
Another "Honorable mention" I'd like to add is the latest big-ass Bee. Not accurate and huge, yes, but he look awesome and his transformation is creative.

What's your opinion on 2007 Concept Camaro Bumblebee incidentally? I assume you like him as he showed up on the Cliffjumper list.

Unfortunately I don't own battle blade or battle ops Bee so I can't speak for those, but the DOTM deluxe and HA are both great figures, glad to see them on the list.
If I had to add one I'd throw in SS 76 Camaro Bumblebee. I know the QC was really bad for a lot of people but It's been one of my favorite figures recently. He just needs a little better head sculpt and I think he'd be pretty much perfect!

Which VW MP is better, the regular G1 or the movie version?

That can't be ansewred because it's like comparing apples and oranges.
But if we are only talking about screen acuracy and playability, I can call the G1 MP. Perfectly screen accurate (for the bot) and fast to transform.

Battle Ops Bumblebee. Fun toy but way too big for my collection. Not keen on that gold version either.
Human Alliance Bumblebee. I loved the gimmick but I had issues with the figure. I really hated the forearms on it. And that the legs were the wrong way round with the wheels on inside instead of the outside which bugged me enough to swap them (but that made the transformation a fair bit more awkward).
Battle Blades Bumblebee. Good for the time but was too large even then to scale with other related figures and I never felt the proportions were very good, far too tall and gangly. Looks even weirder when you have him in that pic there right next to a Deluxe Ironhide. Had a few issues with my one too (Axe broke off in packaging and the back of the car didn't quite tab in fully)
MPM03 Bumblebee. Excellent figure. Too big of course for a general collection (and a smidge too big for the Masterpiece line it's even in and it'll be forever before Masterpiece movie line really gets big enough and varied enough for a proper collection) but as a general tribute piece to one of my fave characters it's lovely.
MPM07 Bumblebee. Not a huge fan. Just feel the car and robot mode of VW Bee are a massive downgrade from the Camaro and his more badass bot form. But it at least looks better than the CGI model in the movie which just looks far too over-simplified and more like an actual kid's toy than a realistic alien robot. This figure does looks far cooler than that but for me that design just can't compete with the Camaro bot.
My faves have to include TLK Deluxe Bumblebee (I love the styling of the figure and it's transformation), the DotM Mechtech Deluxe and Studio Series 01 (or later releases of) Bumblebee (Never had a big problem with the roof, it was an easy enough fix) a figure which has a lot of play and posing by me over the past year along with several other Studio Series figures (by far my fave Transformers toyline ever) I have a lot of fondness for the AoE Bumblebee deluxe too. Mainly the Takara painted version, not the cheap-KO-looking version from TLK's wave 1. I had a nice oversized KO of it I used to play with on a work desk a couple years ago. Was good. Also I have some fondness for the 2007 Deluxe Concept Camaro just because it, in my opinion, showed a huge step forward in carformers styling and transformation (and was a hell of a lot better than the earlier classic Camaro attempt). The VW Studio Series toy is good too and again I've had no issues (apart from having to prise the swappable face off with a tool cos the paint on it and stuck it firmly to the head), I just prefer the Camaro.

My Top 5 would go:
5) DotM Nitro Bumblebee - Such a fun mold, with a truly badass car mode. Great looking and functioning figure.
4) 2009 Premium Edition Deluxe (from Bee Legacy 3 Pack, retool/repaint of OG Deluxe Concept Camaro mold) - The first movie mold was and still is a pretty decent mold. It is one of the very few to get the wings right and it is fun. Posability is a bit hindered, but still good.
3) AOE Ninja Bumblebee - Great mold, interesting look, ninja stars, the front of the car on the shoulders instead of the chest, it is a fun time.
2) Takara War Hammer Bumblebee - Took a nearly perfect deluxe, tightened it up some, and gave it an awesome hammer.
1) MPM-3 - pretty much everything that was already said. That is a fantastic MP figure. A real bright spot in the Bee saga.
MPM7 is a pretty good one too, but with as fiddly as the car mode is, it just ranks behind my list with how tight the rest are.

Nitro Bee was kinda fun, yeah. The robot mode was a lil dull to me but I liked that textured sculpt on the black parts of the hood and doors of the rather cool car mode. I used to display that Bee with Topspin and Roadbuster (being a stand-in for Leadfoot since I never managed to find that one in Deluxe form) like he was a part-time Wrecker while his regular DotM deluxe was his usual 'clothes' and Cyberfire or 'Murderbee' (never got that name til that rather jarring bit in the Bumblebee movie where he actually did go red eyed and violent and yet everyone was like yeah he's ok) was his 'Shattered Glass' equivalent.
Never thought of the AoE one being a ninja but yeah I can get behind that.

When the Age of Extinction designs were fully released, I ended up categorizing all 5 main bots in certain categories based on looks.
-Prime was the Knight (duh)
-Bee was the ninja (the greater amount of black in that design, the sleeker look, the throwing star rims, even the slightly redesigned head)
-Crosshairs was the asshole british detective (trenchcoat, blasters, even the googles as some sort of spectacles or something and the appearance of having a toothpick in his mouth)
-Drift the Samurai (duh again)
-Hound as the fat guy ass kicker (duh x3)

Well, it's not Will's or Seibertron's fault Hasbro decided to do HFTD Ironhide as a Deluxe It's Hasbro's fault they end up looking weird together in the HFTD Autobots class photos.
Battle Blade Bumblebee is a bit gangly, but I still really want him; I like his overall look and the integrated weapons count for a lot to me.

Wasnt the 2nd AOE BB a shrunk down version of the MPM engineering, especially of the upper half with the way the car shell folds into the body and the smalelr wings come down for the wings. All to say that it has been done.
I dont see how people think the deluxe SS Barricade imitates the MPM toy, when the biggest inovation from the MPM toy is finally getting the wheel hands right and this deluxe reverting back to doing nothing with the wheels and just leaving them where they are from car mode.

Correction: It's the second TLK figure, and yes, it takes alot of engineering from the MPM, notably how the wheels form the feet, how the roof folds up on his back, and how it has 2 sets of wings. What I meant by my SS Barricade comment was, HasTak took a lot of the engineering from the MPM and put it on the deluxe. They had to leave out some complicated steps like the wheels not being on his hands but for the price and size, it's still pretty awesome.

Did you tke a look at the front page lately ?

Also I am surprised there is very little discussion going on here. Is it due to all the fatigue over this character? Or is it that since his toys are incrimental from one to the next, there isnt much to discuss? As opposed to say a list of Top 5 Megatron toys.

High octane Bee is my least favorite movie Bumblebee figure. The vehicle mode is pretty cool, but I just don't like anything about the robot mode.
But! talking about the figures I do like, I think I've got my top 5.
5. Human Alliance
4. War Hammer Bumblebee
3. DOTM Deluxe
2. SS-01 76 Camaro Bee
1. MPM-03 Bumblebee

I know about the front page, that's when I asked about him. I never said or thought he was the best, but in my opinion looked pretty good. That said, I think every item on your list is superior. I only had the DOTM mold and I prefered it to the HFTD version, except for the stupid weapon. Sold it to buy other stuff after 7 years of playing with it keeping it in my collection.
Now here's a brain twister for a top 5 list; Top 5 Deluxe Class figures ever made. I'd love to see what you'd have to say about that.

And yes, top deluxes is super hard I dont think I will ever do it. I have done top 5 scouts, legions and I have a top commander class coming soon. Top 5 Ultras is doable too, Mega too. Older classes we dont have anymore. Maybe deluxe from a specific line. Like top 5 Beast Era Deluxe toys. I definitely want to do a top 5 beast era basics list, but its tough since its hard to distinguish just how much better one is to the next.
