Here I was thinking Hasbro would come out with their version with no chrome, no accesories, dull claws, a lighter gray, and a red autobot logo with no white background. I guess for the supposed MP Hot Rod I'm going to pass on it and just wait and see what Hasbro does and even if Hasbro does a worse job Takara always seems to do a reissue of their Masterpiece figures since they normally completely sell out in the first release.
Items are priced based on what the market will bear. Some wines sold in the US sell for less than they do from where they come from in France. I have seen this and I am amazed by it. Look what the world got in the place of Binaltech. The Alternators were a plastic cheapened option of metal Binaltech because those outside Japan will not pay $60 for an item. $20-30 odd is more reasonable but you cannot get a metal item for that. I am just hopeful that the MP Grimlock will not be cheapened in its production given it is costing 50% less than the Tak/Tomy version.

Now that changes things I never thought of it being cheapened, thanks for the info. I may have to pick one up to see the differences between the two, the only US Masterpiece I have is Skywarp and I guess he does feel a little different compared to the Takara Starscream.

Cheetron wrote:I wonder if I should wait a while and look for him at half price in the clearance section. I'm still seeing Skywarps at my Walmart.
It's a TRU exclusive so it's not all too likely to see a clearance. TRU seems to be more than content to let them just rot on their shelves for a year if need be. How long ago were Countdown and Darkwind released? I still see them...no clearance. About the best you could probably hope for is a buy one, get one 50% off, which only does you so much good because the lesser value fig will see the half price.

I'm in the middle of moving but I'll be right near a TRU after the move on the 25th...good stuff!!

The same goes for my local TRU. We have tons of those, the MoM movie two pack and, the Soundwave/Megatron/Fallen 3-pack.

Midnight_Fox wrote:$60, huh? He'll have to wait until August for me, unfortunately, thanks to Warhammer 8th edition being released in July...
Wrong way round, dude - the book is a massive rip-off. Wait a couple of months for the boxset and buy that. Even if you don't want the models you can sell them and make a decent amount up towards the minibook (or get it free, even)
Also note - the rumor at the moment is that 8th will basically be War of the Ring in terms of gameplay. Should this be true, I'll be hanging my Warhammer gaming days up. WoR is unplayably bad, even the staff in my local GW advised me not to buy it.

I disagree, but to each their own. The book is well worth its value to me due to being full color, high quality, Legendary Battles rules, plenty of scenarios, and plenty of fluff.
As well, if I want to play in the months before the Blood Island is released, I need the book, as I tend to play more with close friends at home than people I don't know at the FLGS.

It's odd, because with my friends, it's usually a case of "one hardback is enough".
Any news on if this'll hit UK stores, I might buy one for my brother.

I can relate. I'm glad it's being release here, I'm just annoyed that Takara's had such a high price increase compared to the typical MP, yet Hasbro is managing to still release it at their normal MP price point. I don't really think the mind swap gear and lame waiter set was worth the extra $85 + shipping...and I'd probably rather have the crown if it were all the same anyhow.
If the next "new" Takara MP doesn't retail closer to $100, I may have to just wait for the eventual Hasbro release...

Yes, I'm becoming OCD about this and probably won't get much sleep tonight and it is by a sheer force of will which is preventing me from heading to toys r us right now for a pre-emptive strike.

Exact dates don't mean anything. You're better off starting the hunt some 2 weeks after the proposed date, or a week after the first sighting.

Sorry.
Apparently, he is also supposed to go on pre-order sometime, so...

"The release date on this product has been pushed back and no information is available on a new release date."
Now that it's relatively official that the big guy won't be available any time soon, I've turned my attention and funds to the new Generations/WFC/HFD figs. Actually it's kind of a relief, I didn't want to have to decide among MP Grimlock and the new Gens stuff. Still bummed, tho, I knew it was too good to be true. *pouts*

Well i do's liek money. And if i am going to take advantage of a sale or exclusive, I'd might as well make money off collector's. I am sure collectors won't mind buying from me... ...at all.

That said, I haven't seen Grimmy around my area, so I guess this release date was bogus.
