Additionally G.I. Joe Renegades and I *think* some of the MLP films are on Blu Ray also.

Then I'd say wait, or buy it when it's on sale the first week at target and return it if the blu-ray announcement comes through;
On an unrelated note, wonder if the BW show would look nice on blu-ray

Note sure... Not many TV shows prior to the HD era are being released on Blu Ray (The various Star Trek series are some that come to mind), but they usually require some extensive digital reworking and preservation. Although what Mainframe was producing in the mid-90's to early 2000's was ground breaking, I'm not sure how well it would look in HD (would it look better, or only highlight the flaws in the early CG that we may not notice now??)
I also guess it depends on the quality of the master prints that S!F has. I know they have released Beast Wars a couple of times on DVD. I still have the original Rhino releases, so I don't cant say if the S!F ones are any better, or pretty much the same, just repackaged.

Not sure, I have both, but never compared. Doesn't matter I s'pose; Think I might grab this set, not sure though, for as great as the new 's are, there's alotta dumb fluff in the show, that's not even counting the irritating new human and his dumb cosplay gimmick; might re-watch it first

Kids won't care about 480p vs 1080p, so it makes sense to keep the cost down on this series by just going the DVD route for now.
On another note, I'm very glad they announced this before the episode 6-10 single disc released. Saves a little bit of dough on that one.

Agreed. And although for example- MLP has a huge adult cult following, it may not be quite enough to justify Blu Ray sets of the regular TV show, as opposed to the telefilms. I agree that RiD15 would probably not benefit nearly as much from Blu Ray as Prime does, but the only reason I am holding out is if they are doing both at the same time (or roughly within the same time frame), I will obviously go with the Blu Ray. If not, then the DVD is just fine. I have managed in *most* cases to stick to my guns and not frivolously double-dip for Blu Rays that I already have DVD's of.

o.supreme wrote:What boggles my mind though, is the logic that an action cartoon has to make a ton of money in toy sales to justify its existence. I mean I don't exactly see tons of Uncle Grandpa, Adventure Time, Teen Titans Go!, World of Gumball etc.. toys or merchandise being sold.
Those shows are produced directly by Cartoon Network so they're making money off of advertising and licensing and whatnot. If the show fails they don't take a huge loss. On the other hand the action shows are typically produced by toy companies that have to produce the animation and buy the air time all with the goal to sell toys. If the toys don't sell then there's no need for the cartoon anymore so they cancel it and cut their losses. Unfortunately this means even good, promising shows like the updated Thundercats can be canceled out of the blue if the toy company (in this case Bandai) isn't selling toys.

Those DVDs are made to appeal to nostalgic adults that will want them to look cool on a shelf. The RID discs are made bright and flashy to get kids' attention.

Eh, they all had pretty terrible single release covers, but for the collections the Cybertron cover is only mildly better than the other two using a similar generic background, but wedging Megatron and Vector Prime on. It's a better effort, sure, but still pretty weak.

Yeah, but wouldn't the Unicron Trilogy releases also be targeted to nostalgic adults? Kids who grew up on those shows by now aren't kids anymore.Emerje wrote:Sabrblade wrote:What about the Armada and Energon DVDs looking just as bland while Cybertron gets a neat-looking DVD set?Emerje wrote:Those DVDs are made to appeal to nostalgic adults that will want them to look cool on a shelf. True, but not quite at the nostalgia buying age either. Usually people who are buying things out of childhood nostalgia are out of college, have established careers, and are building families. I think around 2020 we'll see some really cool AEC stuff released.

The pre-nostalgia-buying gap is getting smaller and smaller as people in general are getting more comfortable with the idea of owning toys into adulthood. I wonder if it may wind up generally being eliminated?Emerje wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Yeah, but wouldn't the Unicron Trilogy releases also be targeted to nostalgic adults? Unlike Season 1, instead of the Autobots playing cops-and-robbers with the Decepticons only in the United States, they will do it by traveling to the entire world. There is a strong chance that while they are there hunting down Decepticons in these locations, Steeljaw will very likely sneak into the scrapyard and release all the Decepticons once again without his enemies even realizing it.
However, because Hasbro portrayed the animals characters as bad guys, I have an emotional feeling that animals rights groups will protest in the cartoon studios to have that show pulled, because they believe that this show promotes animal cruelty. Well, I do have a message for these people. Activists, you won't take away our show, and you won't take away our toys. And I will stand up not only to you, but to anyone who tends to think that they do have what it takes to take our show away. Because yes, we are fan of RID, and we're proud to stand by it. You know, activists, you may not think that it's okay for us to watch it, but let me tell you this that here in this country, you can have any faith that you want and any lifestyle that you like!

No one said Overload would do that.psj333 wrote:Yes, we're all excited that Season 2 will begin next week or so. However, even if Overload is a Decepticon, I doubt that he will be the new boss for this Season. Don't forget it's Steeljaw who escaped the explosion after the Autobots threw a bomb at his face in the comics issue #6. Therefore, he survived. There is absolutely no reason that Overload will indeed taken over Steeljaw's place.

Nope. Buzzsaws are Autobots, Torpedoes are Decepticons, and Cyclones are chaotic neutrals (but are considered Decepticons in the toyline, and might become Decpeticons in the show).RevTibe wrote:Curious to see how Overload, Crazybolt and the Cyclones are going to work out - we've seen Autobot Cyclones, right?

Ah, cool. Was a little surprised to see Alch prisoners that weren't already 'cons - I was getting the impression in RID that being a Decepticonvict is almost a label applied to you rather than a political/military affiliation (makes me wonder about what happened to the term between Prime and RID).Sabrblade wrote:Was going by what the show said in the shorts that introduced the Cyclones.RevTibe wrote:Here, in this box set Undertone is displaying the Autobrand, although advertised as pairing with Overload;Sabrblade wrote:Nope. The combination of Autobot Cyclone toys and a doubt that we'd be introduced to a neutral third minicon group that go on to entirely fall in line with the Decepticons makes me think we'll be seeing Autobot Cyclones in-show. My first guess would've been the blue-eyed Overload experiencing a change of heart, but him getting a Decepticon-aligned toy puts a damper on that. Hmm.

Check out this exclusive look at the new season, "Transformers: Robots in Disguise," the Transformers cartoon series.
The new season from Hasbro Productions puts Autobot against Autobot as Optimus Prime's authority. The Decepticons and Steeljaw are back. For those of you unaware of who or what Steeljaw is, he's the Transformer who also sort of looks like a wolf puppy.
Now, Bumblebee has to form his own group of hero robot aliens (called Team Bee) made up of Grimlock, Sideswipe, Strongarm, Fixit, Windblade and Drift.
Also in the mix is a Dinobot. The new season will premiere Feb. 20.

The story evolves much more in season 2 which is a good thing and so it seems to be darker but it's just like Deadput said more serious.

As for the female Decepticon in the screenshot, I recently noticed that the two circles below her trunks are believed to be wheels. Does that mean she has a vehicle form, or she is just like Chop Shop, Filch, Zizza. Scorponok, and formely Grimlock?
As for Hasbro who just recently made a One-Step Bisk toy, I just want to say good for them. I'm all in, now. All we need right now is for them to make him into a Warrrior toy following his One-Step self. Bring it on, Hasbro!
