Rodimus Prime - a nice little Titanmaster, but the paint on mine's head mode has been really badly done, with white splashes either side of his helmet. I may still switch out Deluxe Hot Rod's head for this one.
Fastlane - I've never really had any attachment to the G1 clones, Fastlane himself is a bit basic of a figure, and the alt mode adds to my belief that 100% G1 toy accuracy is not always a good thing. Nevertheless, the transformation is simple enough so that my nephew would probably like him.
Nautica - I don't read the IDW comics, so again no real attachment to Nautica as a character, but I think she wears the mould a lot better than Blurr did, and the added turbine things on her shoulders are a nice touch.
"It's not a phase Mom!!" Prime - I've never owned a version of the Titans Return Voyager Optimus, but I had more fun with this one than I thought I would. The truck isn't that great, but I do love the robot mode, so much so that I may even track down the original and replace PotPie Leader Optimus with it on my main Autobot display.
Quickswitch - Bloody hell. Now I understand why Six Shot is shelf-warming in my area. While the robot mode is nice and the transformations aren't that bad, I don't like any of the alt modes at all. They all vary from meh to terrible. Though considering how much this figure has to do I won't hold it against him. Plus it's good to have a third big Autobot alongside Optimus and Ultra Magnus. I may just keep him in bot mode from now on.

According to Floro Dery the altmodes for Hot Rod, Arcee, Springer, Kup, and Blurr were indeed intended to be future!Earth vehicles. And since Mr. Dery was the one who designed them, I would consider him a reliable source at least in this case.
And on that note, in one case I can identify a specific car the character is a futuristic version of. If you put T30 Arcee and G1 Tracks next to each other in altmode, it seems fairly obvious that Arcee turns into a future!Corvette.

Seibertron wrote:Wolfman Jake wrote:Wow. I really love the TR/LG Kup mold. What makes you so averse to it?
It's a bad figure, most noticeable from the side because his chest is flat (when it should be at an angle or there's something else off with it, but it doesn't look right regardless), he has no backpack, the back is too flat with the location of the back of his head/neck, lower legs are far too bulky, and so on. It's a good example of cost-cutting instead of doing a figure right. Hopefully Kup is on the shortlist of figures that should be redone in the near future.
No, it is NOT an example of "cost-cutting". It's an example of two things: Gimmick integration, and giving too much focus to IDW. The more straight torso shape, the square arms, and the bulky lower legs are all taken from Guido Guidi's design in the IDW comics. The lack of the backpack is a combination of accomodating that (the integration of the legs makes the backpack unneeded as bed storage) and accommodating the gimmick - due to the need for a working cockpit, the arms can't tuck inside the torso the way they did on the G1 toy, so they have to go somewhere else. So they go where the backpack would otherwise be.

What is the bigger hobby, collecting TF's or arguing about TF's?
Posted by ZeldaTheSwordsman on November 30th, 2018 @ 12:25am CST
Collecting is bigger, but arguing is fairly strong too. *shrug* Especially when I see something that pushes my annoyance buttons, like the "Hasbro TFs these days have KO-quality plastic" malarkey or accusations I feel are unfair or inaccurate. If Seibertron feels that the design of Titans Return Kup make it not feel like Kup to him? Fine. But I take issue with him calling it the result of cost-cutting because as far as I'm concerned that's fingering the wrong culprit. As I see it the real cause is the designer favoring Guido Guidi's robot design from the IDW comics and the design tradeoffs necessary to accommodate both that and the headmaster gimmick.

I vowed never to get the Dinobots or Terrocons singly. I would only get them if they came out in a boxed set like all the other Takara versions of the combiners.
Are there any announcements, rumors, or confirmation about boxed sets of these figures in the works?

None, whatsoever. Volcanicus did get a box release in China, but it's simply a bundle of the individual packaging. Nothing like the G2-style sets, Victorion, Computron or Liokaiser.
Plus, thanks to brand unification, as of PotP all main Hasbro versions are identical to TakaraTomy releases. No box sets from TakaraTomy this time around.
Is it too late to say wrong thread?

Too late? Nope. Is this the wrong thread? I wasn't sure. Thanks for confirming that. I wasn't quite sure which the best place for it would be.
I had heard about the China market box set. Which, I must say, sounds tedious and kind of painful. More boxes in bigger boxes in shipping boxes. <Facepalm>
I was hoping, but I guess so far, it's all just a pipe dream. With the brand unification, I'm not too concerned about the coloring. But bots on cards is a PITA, so I'd very much like to minimize that.
Thanks!

I still think it would be cool if some 3p company created mock packaging in the style of UW for combiners that never had a proper box set Not only Volcanicus & Abominus, but also exclusives such as Thunder Mayhem and Wreckage

Combined with Overlord's base mode and Sixshot's tank mode. With plenty of people's heads and weapons joining the party!
And another shot, this time with everyone's body parked in the camp.

Apeface is Puple and has a head crest similar to Galvatron's. But, he has a battle mask over his mouth.Rodimus Prime wrote:Question. Was there a Prime Master released that was purplish and resembles Galvatron's head?

I don't like how TR Galvatron's head looks, especially with the flip-up face mask, so I'm thinking about replacing the whole head. I haven't been able to find a severed Galvatron head that I could use, so my next best option is a lookalike attachable head. I just don't know if it's large enough. Prime Masters are usually sizes of deluxe heads.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:Question. Was there a Prime Master released that was purplish and resembles Galvatron's head?

You know, there were some mods out there where they severed the flip up mask and glued it to the TM. It rendered the TM un-transformable, but usually looked pretty good. You could search the interwb for examples, or there might have even been some posted in our own Transtopia.
Just a thought. Might be worth looking at.

Hard to tell but there was five on the shelf so they got at least three cases worth (pretty sure he came in a solid case). They did not have the Bumblebee set, may have sold out, but I doubt it. They did have something else from TLK that might explain where all these Overlords are coming from.
That was $6, but I already have it.
Going to try the other local store Saturday to see if they got anything interesting.
