Collider has posted a rather insightful interview with legendary voice actor Frank Welker. Frank discusses voicing Megatron over the years, changes in the voice acting industry, working with Peter Cullen, and even briefly touches on Hugo Weaving's recent remarks about his voice work in the Transformers movie franchise. Click here to read the full interview on Collider.

On a related note, some fans of yours on Twitter have posited the following questions:

-What was your reaction to Hugo Weaving’s comments about his voice role in the Transformers films?

Welker: I think he was just being honest, he was not familiar with the franchise and therefore had no affinity for the project. I have respect for Hugo as an actor and really appreciate what he does with his characters. I think if he knew of the fan base and the history of the “Transformers” he might have responded differently.

-Do you think he did justice to the character of Megatron?

Welker: Obviously I have to feel that my incarnation is best because I am competing. I know when I hear a replacement in a project I always miss the original no matter what the project. I think Corey Burton, David Kaye, and Fred Tatasciore as well as Hugo Weaving all did interesting versions. Ultimately, however, it’s the fans who will make the final decision on who they see as the true leader of the Decepticons.

The official Transformers facebook page has posted the creator commentary for IDW's Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye Ongoing #10. Writer James Roberts gives us insight into the first five pages. We've mirrored the commentary below for those without facebook access.

Re: Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye Ongoing #10 Preview
PAGE 1: We’re getting more into the politics of Cybertron with Senator Proteus, the rise of the Decepticons and how to deal with them. How far in advance did you have these kinds of political games worked out, and who would benefit from them?

JAMES ROBERTS: With “Shadowplay”—particularly Part 2—I’m trying to move MTMTE into “political thriller” territory. Well, a political thriller with some old-fashioned conspiracy tropes thrown in. This isn’t the first time I’ve explored the socio-political infrastructure of pre-war Cybertron—“Chaos Theory” (which can be found in the trade paperback of the same name), laid a lot of the groundwork upon which the plot of “Shadowplay” rests.

Structurally and hierarchically, ancient Cybertronian society has parallels with our own—there’s apartheid, civil rights, democracy (of a sort), classism, etc; to counterbalance that I wanted to bring something uniquely Cybertronian to the fore—namely the fact that these creatures are blessed (or cursed) with a second shape that determines their lot in life.

As for how far in advance I had these political games mapped out… far enough. Far enough to extend beyond this particular story.

Re: Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye Ongoing #10 Preview
PAGE 2: Chromedome gives chase to the bot who threw the body in front of him and Prowl from the last issue. Did you give specific designs on the sky bike and the craft he is pursuing as well as the Translucentica Heights?

JAMES ROBERTS: I certainly wanted Prowl and Chromedome’s sky bikes to be reminiscent of Action Master Prowl’s motorcycle. Just because.

The key thing about Translucentica—as the name (from “translucent”) suggests—was to make it look like it was entirely made of glass. Issue 9’s script said, “Translucentica is visible in the distance, a cluster of shimmering glass skyscrapers, sculptures, monorails, all of it tinted blue.” That was easy for me to write—the ever-talented duo of Alex Milne and Josh Burcham—had the difficult task of bringing that sentence to life.

Re: Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye Ongoing #10 Preview
PAGE 3: Chromedome loses his quarry and meets up with Prowl. Why put these two characters together for this story and not another pair?

JAMES ROBERTS: The simple answer is: I love Prowl and I wanted him in MTMTE.

Way, way back I pitched a story to IDW—a Prowl Spotlight set on pre-war Cybertron which had him tracking down a Transformation-Cog-stealing serial killer against a background of Decepticon rioting. Obviously that story was never written, but I was attracted to the idea of Prowl working for this CSI-type unit called the Mechaforensics Division.

Re: Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye Ongoing #10 Preview
PAGE 4 and 5: Prowl and Chromedome meet Red Alert and find the ’bot they are looking for. As all three of these characters have quite a bit of history to them, will we be seeing some of their actions catching up to them in future issues? Maybe across Robots in Disguise with Prowl as well?

JAMES ROBERTS: Your question reveals a universal truth about MTMTE: every character has a past, and everyone’s past will catch up with them. We’re not jumping back to pre-war Cybertron at random: events that take place during the run-up to war will have lasting repercussions on our present day crew.

Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye artist Alex Milne has shared an exclusive concept design for "Shadowplay" Roller by way of UK fansite Full Metal Hero. Looks like Roller has been hitting the gym! Be sure to pick up Transformers: More Than Meets The Eye Ongoing #10 tomorrow. Click here for a preview and here for our full review.

Since this book will be out tomorrow, and the preview is already up online I thought I would just share this design of Roller with you.
it was a lot of fun to come up with his look for issue 10 of MTMTE. When going over what he should look like with James, he mentioned he wanted him to transform into a prisoner transport. With that in mind I started to really think about how big he should be. Finally I decided that he needed to be bigger then Orion Pax. He has a few similar design aspect as pax has. I wanted that since they are a team/partners at the police station.
Well, I must get back to MTMTE, enjoy

Transformers Prime Shockwave, and.....

Hmm. I don't think they've announced the actual name of this very shiny character yet.

Overall, it's your basic two guys standing there pose. I liked the chance to get some lens flare in there, along with more molten slag, and the barrel rim of Shockwave's gun arm still red hot and smoking. Atmosphere, sparks, and distant burned out buildings tie it all together.

Looks like Michael Bay didn't appreciate the comments from Hugo Weaving regarding his role in the first Transformers movie trilogy. Bay apparently took to his official website and fired off the comments quoted below. The original posting on MichaelBay.com seems to have been removed, but Collider managed to snag the comments before they were taken down. See what Bay had to say below:

Do you ever get sick of actors that make $15 million a picture, or even $200,000 for voiceover work that took a brisk one hour and 43 minutes to complete, and then complain about their jobs? With all the problems facing our world today, do these grumbling thespians really think people reading the news actually care about trivial complaints that their job wasn’t ‘artistic enough” or “fulfilling enough”? I guess The Hollywood Reporter thinks so.

What happened to people who had integrity, who did a job, got paid for their hard work, and just smiled afterward? Be happy you even have a job – let alone a job that pays you more than 98% of the people in America.

I have a wonderful idea for all those whiners: They can give their “unhappy job money” to a wonderful Elephant Rescue. It’s the David Sheldrick WildlifeTrust in Africa. I will match the funds they donate.

This week will see the next chapter in IDW's Transformers: Regeneration One with the release of issue #84. Writer Simon Furman has updated his blog with a script (W)Rap for this issue, which can be found be clicking here. A small excerpt is mirrored below, visit Simon's blog to read his full entry. Those looking to avoid spoilers would obviously want to pass.

Simon Furman wrote:This coming Wednesday (October 10th) sees the release of Transformers: Regeneration One #84, and as is customary, by way of an appetite whetter, I’ve prepared a tease/preview of what you can expect. There are minor spoliers, so if you’re of a sensitive disposition look away now. Right then, by now we all know what’s coming right? Earth lies in post-apocalyptic ruins, thanks to Megatron and his zombie-con army, and Optimus Prime took his eye well and truly off the ball and feels the buck stops with him. And so the titanic (final?) dust-up between these two TF icons is now well and truly on the cards. But that’s next issue, right? So what happens in the meantime?

The official Transformers facebook page has shared an interview with Transformers: Robots in Disguise ongoing artist Andrew Griffith. The interview has been mirrored below for those without facebook access.

Transformers: Robots in Disguise #11 Andrew Griffith Interview

As the Transformers: Robots in Disguise comic book series from IDW Publishing and Hasbro approaches the end of its first year, we thought we’d sit down with the series artist, Andrew Griffith, for his thoughts on the first nine issues of the series (the first five of which have been collected in a paperback) as well as the future of the series! Back issues (and last week’s giant-sized annual) are available at comic book stores everywhere, and digitally at http://read.idwpublishing.com/ —or download it on Comixology on your mobile device!

Q: Hi, Andrew. As we’re approaching the end of Robots in Disguise’s first year—how has it has been for you?

ANDREW GRIFFITH: Oh, it's been fantastic. I’m enjoying working on this book as much now as when I first began. I mean, nothing can beat the initial thrill of getting a call to take on the art chores for an ongoing Transformers series, but the fun and challenge of it has not dwindled a bit. I even recently tweeted the fact that it's been a year and a half since I got that call and I'm still as excited to be on the book now as I was then.

Q: You and writer John Barber have been working very closely on the look and feel on this book. Has it changed much from where you started out to where you are now?

ANDREW GRIFFITH: John Barber the writer? For a second, I was afraid you were asking me about the John Barber responsible for the development of rail gun technology. No really, look it up. Same name.

Parenthetical humor aside, John’s a dream to work with. We’ve been working together since July of 2010 when we started the Dark of the Moon movie prequel series Foundation, and I feel like it didn’t take us long at all to meld with each other’s storytelling ideas. I really notice as I read his scripts that he’s writing them specifically for me—he’s gotten to know what he has to detail out for me, and what he can let me take hold of and run with.

That man is writing so many different things now, as well as editing a few more, that I don’t know how he manages to keep each book straight—but working closely with him for so long I haven’t seen any less commitment or intensity from him on the part of RID. It’s kind of amazing. He just chugs right along. As far as the look and feel, I think it’s stayed pretty consistent over the issues. We’re really been trying to do some world building, with Iacon changing constantly as more ships arrive, ships are converted into buildings, and civilization takes hold. Meanwhile, this relatively settled section is surrounded by an entire planet that's been reborn and essentially unexplored. We've been working to establish a mix of strange structures naturally forming, ruined husks of ancient Cybertronian structures, and bizarre alien landscapes. Hopefully that comes across in the books.

Q: What characters have you been finding more of a challenge to draw, and do any of them come as a surprise to you? I bet there are some you can do with your eyes closed.

ANDREW GRIFFITH: I don’t know what it is, but for some reason whenever I draw a Sweep's decapitated head in RID (specifically in issue 5) it never looks right to me. Something about the boxiness of the helmet, I think.

Q: You did a different design for Starscream before going for the War for Cybertron designs. How many of the characters did you re-design that weren’t used?

ANDREW GRIFFITH: Well, truth to be told, not too many. I knew the series was going to feature Bumblebee, so my thought was to nail down (no pun intended) Bee’s look, and then base the aesthetic of the rest of the characters off of his appearance. I ended up doing about three Bumblebee designs that were never good enough that I’d want show them to anybody, and then I did some of characters like Prowl and Starscream. The Starscream one is the one you’re talking about, but looking back I don’t think the Prowl one would have worked well at all for his role in the series and I don’t know that I’d ever want to show him off. Just not a very good design in retrospect.

Q: Any stand out issues for you during this first year that surprised you?

ANDREW GRIFFITH: You know, I really enjoyed #4. When I first read that issue, I was instantly eager to draw it. On one level it read as a fairly straightforward action issue, but underneath there were a to of things going on, some of which has yet to be revealed to the reader. But I think eventually people will be able to look back at that issue and see it in a different light and say “ooooohhhhhhh.”

Q: Would you say that you’ve changed much as an artist during the year as you’ve done more and more issues?

ANDREW GRIFFITH: Well, I hope so. I always want to be improving as an artist. I definitely feel like I can confidently turn out a competent page at a faster rate than I could have at the beginning. And there are certain things I wish I would have drawn differently in the first few issues, like Bumblebee and Prowl’s heads. I don’t know what it is about Bee, if I’m not careful I just end up making his head wider and wider and wider.

Q: You went to San Diego Comic Con this year, met the fans, signed many things and talked giant robots. How’d you find it? Was it a fun experience?

ANDREW GRIFFITH: Well, I’ve gone to a number of conventions this year, and from all the fans I’ve talked to, they are all really excited about what is going on in Transfomers comics, so it's been really encouraging. That’s a very rewarding thing to hear, that what you're pouring your heart and soul and time into is being appreciated. The highlight of SDCC for me is always getting to see the people there that I never get to see otherwise, and getting to meet and talk with [legendary G.I. Joe writer] Larry Hama and [legendary Transformers writer] Flint Dille for example. But the best part was probably finally meeting John Barber and [editor] Carlos Guzman, who I’d been working closely with for two years by that point but had never met in person.

Q: From the characters you’ve designed for the series, which one of them would you like to see turned into a toy? If you were given the choice.

ANDREW GRIFFITH: I’m pretty happy with what I’ve come up with for the Constructicons, they retain enough of their G1 appearance while still looking like Cybertronian in nature. It’d be pretty awesome for me to see a Generations-line Devastator combiner based on them, similar to the combining Fall of Cybertron Bruticus toy that’s out.

Q: As we’re wrapping up the first year, there’s still to more issues to go until we hit #12. is there anything little snippets you can say without giving to much away?

ANDREW GRIFFITH: Well, I can’t say too much without IDW snipers placed across the street filling me with tranquilizers and shipping me off to Siberia, but I can promise that issues 11 to 15 are ones not to be missed. By the end of that arc, you'll have a lot of questions answered, some long unseen characters make an appearance, and some resolution to the first year’s over-arching story. Basically, it’s good stuff. I just hope I can draw it as well as it’s written.

Q: Heading into year 2, you’ve probably been talking with John Barber about the future. Anything you can say about what the fans could possibly expect?

ANDREW GRIFFITH: Yeah, we had a chance at SDCC to sit down and bounce ideas off of each other. A bit early to see if he uses any of mine. [Laughs] In all seriousness, one of the great things about John is how he’s so open to collaboration between us, and if he likes an idea I have, he’s not too proud to use it in the story. If it seems like I’m avoiding spoilers as far as where the story is going, I am. It’s hard to discuss it without giving too much away. But I will say that John and I are both excited about where things are headed.

On Eve of RE6, Wesker Reunites with Chris Redfield.

Los Angeles, CA (TSG) October 1st, 2012. Last week a serendipitous moment in a Los Angeles recording studio was caught on video. Actor and voiceover talent, D.C. Douglas, shared it with the world via his blog. It's eggcellent.

Today was the first recording session of Transformers: Rescue Bots season 2! This particular episode has a guest actor. Last night I noticed it was Roger Craig Smith! (Resident Evil fans will know him as Chris Redfield, who returns next week in Resident Evil 6… No, I won’t be returning. I’m dead. Deal, people.)
This led to a little iphone inspiration…
Somedays I really see what a unique job I have. So many games and characters represented in the entry way of our recording studio. Enjoy!
