Star Convoy appears to be a decent retooling of Power of the Primes Leader Optimus Prime, so make of that what you will. Armada Prime, on the other hand, appears to be a brand new mold based on the original Armada Prime.
Update: We have some more pics courtesy of the Snakas Blog which show that Armada Optimus Prime will combine to have a super mode, since we see fists in the back of his legs. We also get a better idea of the inner Prime for Star Convoy which seems to be simply G1 Convoy/Optimus Prime.

We don't know as of yet, I believe; most are assuming that they are going to be legends line exclusives, so LGEX; but I don't know if they had sign cards for the figures there
Unless you were asking what lines they originally came from, then armada prime comes from armada/micron legend and star convoy comes from a japan only sub line of G1, but I don't know which one specifically

We we get into all the items that could go with the Armada Prime, I wonder if they considered all that when they decided to make him.
I do hope they get rid of the gill mask in super mode though. I remember at bot con one year at a panel where one of the guys too credit for creating it, then apologized for it's design.

Anyway, yeah. I want a Jetfire and Overload that can combine with him. Hell, a Jetfire that can combine with him and the trailer, if he comes with one. The whole hog this time!

Star Convoy is from "Return of Convoy," appropriately enough.

So there is an actually bit of animation to go with it or was that just the name of the Japanese Toy Line?

Zone was the last piece of JG1 animation. Return of Convoy had only a series of story pages (whose art was drawn in the same style as the JG1 cartoons, though) and one manga chapter.Rodimus Knight wrote:Wolfman Jake wrote:Hellscream9999 wrote:Unless you were asking what lines they originally came from, then armada prime comes from armada/micron legend and star convoy comes from a japan only sub line of G1, but I don't know which one specifically

As on the original PotP toy the wheels of the trailer are hidden by the folding panels. Speaking of which, the retooling done on the trailer is less severe than first imagined:
- Lower legs (where the wheels are), but not the feet
- The pelvis and abdomen
- The tops of the shoulders

Yes, which is why we don't know what line they'll be in, they could even be in a new one to celebrate the 35th anniversary. But that's not all, they didn't even officially name the characters, simply calling them "S" and "A" on their placards. And that itself is strange because the "A" which we assume stands for Armada isn't what the show was called in Japan. Could they be retconning the character as Armada Convoy now? Considering all the characters he could be teamed with plus Minicons that's not a bad choice.
Does make me wonder if they could be planning a heavy further retool of Siege Leader Optimus Prime in the future.

"S Convoy" and "A Convoy", actually. Using "Armada Convoy" isn't that strange: like Armada Optimus Prime, Optimus Primal was originally just called "Convoy" in Japan, only receiving the "Beast" add-on during Robot Masters to distinguish him from the original (who went by "G1 Convoy", but that didn't really stick). Plus, "Armada Convoy" has seen use before, as the name for that Bendy Prime redeco in Cybertron when it was imported in Japan.

I think its super strange since the show wasnt called Armada in japan and this toy was being revealed by a japanese company in japan.

i wonder if maybe Takara might start doing this line where they celebrate the Convoys through time. It would be neat to start getting updates to the Primes of the Ages, so to speak

The only other Prime mold to ever have these is the original 1984 G1 Prime mold.

It may seem odd to pick the English-language name and not go with like "Micron Convoy", but names from foreign lands always have more impact. Same with us, really. Not the first time TakaraTomy follows Hasbro's lead either.

Wolfman Jake wrote:"Armada" Convoy might also be a case of "brand unification." But then, why wouldn't Takara go whole hog and say "Armada Optimus Prime"?
Keep in mind "A(rmada) Convoy" is a placeholder name for now, once its line is known that may change. Also, brand unification only affects the figures themselves with no regional variants, not the way they're marketed. Note how Legends and Masterpiece still use Japanese names, being TakaraTomy-initiated lines, contrasting the "imported" Hasbro-initiated lines.

Takara wouldn't reveal a Hasbro line figure before Hasbro would, especially one for later line that hasn't even been announced yet. Hasbro always gets first dibs on their own product and lines. This Armada Convoy is Takara's baby.Gzstg wrote:I think Armada prime might be apart of one of the next entries in WFC his mini-con ports could have been replaced with the combat system have we seen a full backshot of him since they were all on his back.

But... what's up with the headsculpt? It's way more angular. Looks more like GT Convoy than Armada Prime.

I'd like it if this time, Jetfire, overload, and the trailer if he has one can all combine into some super-insane super mode.

It's the Supercon Deluxe version of Armada Optimus Prime. People call him "Bendy" because he is super articulated compared to the bricks of the Armada era

I'm not against it, but since Galaxy Upgrade is technically the second use of the Ultra Magnus mold I suspect we'll be seeing a retool of either Shockwave or Astrotrain at SDCC instead with the remaining figure going to Amazon like we saw in PotP.
