As far as this being a good "stand in" for MP-10, how about just buying a real MP-10? They are available in TRUs everywhere currently. Dont got a TRU nearby? Try e-bay. Theres a version of the MP-10 mold with or without the trailer for every budget out there. Dont compare this thing to an MP figure just because it takes certain cues. Its like comparing apples and oranges.

Actually, I get flashbacks to Robot Masters Prime with those ankles.. so many gaps in RM Prime, it wasn't good.. but those old bots were meant to be cheaply made.. tho they fetch far more now.

Power of the Primes Leader Optimus Prime looks great, even compared to MP-10. He'll be a worthy compliment to Combiner Wars/Legends Leader Megtron. The ONLY gripe I have with this PotP version is the gray hands. For something that's supposed to be G1AF, that's a big mistake. I'm sure Takara Tomy will get that right, at least.

I only got one which is the latest TRU reissue. I was under the assumption that all the Takara and Hasbro reissues plus the YOTH MP-10 saturated the market and brought the price down. And thats not counting the very affordable KOs. I never looked at the prices on ebay. But its not a rare mold to own like calling the POTP prime a "stand in" sort of implies.

Works out at about 70-80 quid before shipping. The Leader works out by far cheaper - especially in the event of a sale; which tends to happen for Leaders - and I'd much rather own an official product than a KO if I can help it.
I'm not sure how rarity comes into it?

I have no idea where you are getting that assumption from about saturated market. Despite constant releases, the price has only gone up. I don't know why you think MP-10 is 'for every budget'. The cheapest official MP-10 I can find is $100. Not everyone can afford that for a single figure. And the KO is $50, which some people don't want. Sure PotP will also be $50, but that can be bought on sale if a person waits.

I mean I'm no toy designer but there must be some other way to do the ankles other than 3 pieces of flimsy plastic that don't connect or secure to anything. While the design of the feet is not completely terrible the execution is sorely lacking.

I have to also point out. Say I have a disposable budget of say 200.00. I see a bot I like for 50.00. I need three other bots, but pass on one because overall, it's 200. So I go for a different character or bot, or line to update my collection. sometimes it's a "I want to get the most bots for the money I have" sort of thing..

Where im getting my assumption on the saturated market is the constant re-release of MP-10 in all kind of decos from Hasbro and Takara. It is by no means a rare mold that is impossible to own. And the thing people dont seem to get about e-bay is sellers can "ask" whatever crazy price they want, but that doesnt mean they are getting that price. So on e-bay it sits gathering dust till one smart seller lowballs the others and gets some sales. You said it yourself, you found MP-10 for 100 bucks. People hate when I say this, but any adult who can afford to spend $50 on a toy most likely can afford to spend $100. Im not talking about a parent on a budget buying a toy for his kid. Im talking about a grown ass man who jumps in his own vehicle and drives to TRU to buy a $50 toy. He can afford $100 because if he cant WTF is he doing blowing $50 on toys? (Thats my take on it) Granted this site does have posters who are under the age of 18 and might only get figures as gifts or from saving allowance money. Im not denying that. But Im fairly confident a majority of the people who post here are grown men. Especially when it comes to any transformers toys that homage G1 characters from the 80s. And im also fairly confident that those people who made the "stand in for MP-10" comment were grown men. And im not trying to disrespect them either. I just find it very annoying when adults who spend $50 or more on a toy start talking about budget. Especially when it comes to the MP line which are considered high end collectibles even if TRU chooses to sell them. You dont find MP figures in Walmart or Target. The MP line is a pay to play hobby. Its your collection and you can collect whatever you want. But if you start mixing and matching MP figures with leader class figures sooner or later somebodys eyes are gonna roll...

I know skywarp-2's post is only right above, but I think they said it really well...
Just because one can spend $100 on a toy doesn't mean one wants to. I have MP-10, it's great, I love it to bits - but it seems a lot of the excitement about this Leader Optimus is due to the fact that it looks like it'll be really good for the price. Don't think about it like whether people want to spend $50 or $100 on a toy; think about it like if people want to spend $100, would they rather get one great toy or a really good toy and also 3 or 4 other quite-good toys? I know which one I'd choose much of the time.skywarp-2 wrote:I have to also point out. Say I have a disposable budget of say 200.00. I see a bot I like for 50.00. On a side note, I do own MP-01 and MP-10. Both are great figures with their own strengths. But why do I have both of those MPs? Because each give me a different experience. The PotP Optimus will too and that's why I want him.
Still, if one only have very limited space and room for one Optimus figure, he's better go with MP-10. And if the guy is so tight on money he can barely afford food... He better go with a BAPE exclusive!

My only gripe with the upcoming Orion Pax is that he'll transform into the traditional Optimus cab. Sure, asking for a quadruple changer off a deluxe is a bit much but it would have been nice if Orion Pax would be able to pull off his pick-up mode.
Maybe a creative fan-transformation will do the trick? I really can't wait to have that PotP Leader Optimus in hand to try it out. When it come out, it will be a one day buy, no wait for a sale.
........... ...........
Still, I have a dreadful feeling that the PotP prices will follow the TLK movie line and increase by 30% to 50% in one go. In that case, I'll be extremely selective of what I'll buy.

As it should be! All of those are fantastically fun figures.
...except Zesk. My love for Bionicle is strong, but I never got on board with the soft-reboot around the gladiator-esque series. Honestly I think it was the fist-shaped hands that bothered me more than anything. Still, to each their own and all that
On the point of budgets though, I firmly disagree with the idea that "if you have 50, you have 100". Im a student so on a perputally less-than-great budget, but that doesn't mean I have to go without the things I enjoy. It's less about whether I have the money and more about whether I can comfortably part with the money. Like, yes I have some cash, but I'd rather hold on to most of it and not risk putting myself in a riskier financial situation. If my toy budget for a month was 50 bucks, doubling it would be pretty significant!
...that's all kinds irrelevant though as whilst potp does look great compared to the mp, it just doesn't quite stand up enough in my eyes (as an MP-alike, he's sensational in his own right in terms of looks and play pattern!). I think if the grey "frame" that the chest windows slide into in robot mode were red so as not to stand out as much, that might change my mind

I agree. Its about time Orion Pax gets a figure with his real head sculpt instead of the hideous IDW abomination of Optimus Prime without his faceplate. If the neck joints match I would consider buying an extra POTP Prime just to upgrade thrilling 30s Pax head.

I mean mainly I'm just salty we got Orion Pax "evolving" into an oversized Optimus Prime and not a regular Optimus evolving into an anime-style super mode (ala RID or the UT). That I would have bought.

It has nothing to do with it. The toys are at different price points entirely. Nomatter how common a toyota corrola might be, it will always cost more than a 50$ leader class TF toy. Same with MP10, its just a higher end toy, and shouldnt really be compared when it comes to price.
Also, if people truly had strict MP collections and didnt mix and match anything that wasnt a Has tak MP, then the 3p market wouldnt exist.

Also a grwat idea I think for Hasbro would be to release the new combiner fit alone as upgrade kits for the CW figures.

It cannot be denied that MP-only displays are nothing short of marvellous -- I know this if only because of Cyberpath posting in the Awesome pictures thread every day The meticulous attention to detail, capturing the on-screen appearances and making each figure as perfect as possible is evident in nearly all the Masterpiece figures and a shelf of them is a wonder to behold. But that ain't what I'm here for; especially since the G1 cartoon isn't something I love enough to spend that amount of money on. I'm here for cool figures and random characters I like.
So I'll happily get pit Road Rage against Wolfwire and Vortex; I will most assuredly have my future MP Bluestreak teamed up with Defensor; and I certainly won't shy away from having POTP Optimus stand around with MP Buzzsaw and Clamp Down. Because it's fun.
... though, really, I'm saying all this and one of the big reasons I want POTP Optimus is for an IDW ex-RiD display with Leader Thundercracker, Soundwave and Jetfire Hopefully POTP Jazz, Universe Sunstreaker and TR Arcee too. And someone get a third party company on a Voyager Cosmos!
Talking of Leader-class MP stand-ins, how many have we got at this point? CW Megatron, CW Seekers, TR Soundwave & Blaster, POTP Optimus & Rodimus, some may count TR Sixshot and Sky Shadow depending on their preferred scale...

ugh ... those ankles just gave me flashbacks to Legends Ginrai.
And I hate those **** ankles.
You and me both
How would you have implemented it otherwise? It was designed for the Godbomber unification mode.
I mean I'm no toy designer but there must be some other way to do the ankles other than 3 pieces of flimsy plastic that don't connect or secure to anything. While the design of the feet is not completely terrible the execution is sorely lacking.
We dont have to be toy designers so know that statement is bogus (also, I am surprised Fenrir can still see my posts with him being on my ignore list, but I digress). The pegging system to give Jirai bigger boots is prety much the same as Cybertron's Optimus / Galaxy Convoy.
Its just a peg hole and it could have been under any shaped surface including (as we see in the example above) a normal looking foot. So no, the implementation of godbomber isnt related, that foot and ankle is wonky just because takara wanted it to look like the weird toes Jirai had in the cartoon. Which is also botched because his toes didnt extend below his foot. It was a bad design choice and we can either look beyond it or stay angry. but saying it needed to be this way is being in denial, plain as that.

But looking at Leaders from the last 3 lines...
In T30 (2013-2014) Hasbro developed/released 1 Leader Class Figure
In CW (2015-2016) Hasbro released 6 Leaders based on 3 Molds, 3 of which were based on the Leader from T30.
In TR (2016-2017) Hasbro released 8 Leaders based on 4 molds, two of which were based on one of the Leaders from CW
So as far as Brand "New" Mold:
T30=1
CW=2
TR=3
well its trending up at least....
Through Reveals and Leaks in PotP, we know there are at least 4 releases coming, based on 3 seemingly new Molds. Now since we know likes to milk all they can from reuse (I know this is not new its always been the case)...Other than the Obvious Rodimus reuse which was leaked...I'm sure we could get a Nemesis Prime at some point, not sure how Optimus Primal could be reused but...I was really thinking we might get a leader Star Saber in this line, but that, I would think would be a whole new mold, and I'm not sure if Hasbro can develop a 4th all new leader...Is it too much to hope at this point?

I am usually not one to get my hopes up but I do hope for a leader star sabre too. It just makes so much damn sense.

I'm also hopeful for it, but we'll need to see. With that interview, it sounds like we are not getting any con leaders, so hopefully they do do one more and make it Star Saber.
At some point, when they do finally do Apeface and Snap Dragon, they need to do Road Ceaser too. I want him to go with Star Saber

Otherwise, I'm not sure how it could be done, having a standard car as a Voyager , bigger than the other deluxe cars would look kind of goofy IMHO.
