SAN DIEGO, CA (February 6, 2020) – When the Mane Six gallop alongside Autobots in battle, the forces of villainy stand no chance! IDW Publishing (OTCQX: IDWM), under license by Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS), welcomes comic fans of all ages to enjoy the wildest crossover of Hasbro creations ever: MY LITTLE PONY / TRANSFORMERS, a four-issue miniseries shipping weekly in May!
In MY LITTLE PONY / TRANSFORMERS, the scheming Queen Chrysalis casts a spell in search of changeling allies, but accidentally interferes with a distant Cybertronian Spacebridge… and brings the Autobots and Decepticons to Equestria! As the dust settles, it's up to Twilight Sparkle, Optimus Prime, and others to overcome the menace of malevolent magic and machinery!
MY LITTLE PONY / TRANSFORMERS assembles an all-star team of comic creators for this mind-blowing series: writers James Asmus, Ian Flynn, and Sam Maggs, and artists Casey W. Coller, Jack Lawrence, Sara Pitre-Durocher, Priscilla Tramontano, and Tony Fleecs (who also provides cover artwork for the entirety of the series).
"The writing I've gotten to do individually for MY LITTLE PONY and TRANSFORMERS have already proven to be some of the most fun I've had in my career, so it's pure joy to play them off each other," says Asmus. "We're making a wild mash-up unlike anything else in your comic collection. You basically owe it to yourself and your future happiness to get a copy!"
"It's been a delightful challenge finding common threads between the ponies and bots. It's certainly a fun and unique opportunity," says Flynn. "I hope fans of both franchises can come together and enjoy this."
"MY LITTLE PONY and TRANSFORMERS are two of my all-time favorite universes. Having written for them both previously, the idea of bringing the citizens of Equestria and Cybertron together is incredibly exciting," says Maggs.
"Teaming TRANSFORMERS and MY LITTLE PONY has been a dream we've had for a long time," says IDW Editor-In-Chief John Barber. "We're all really excited to see this mashup of characters by a mashup of creators who are honoring the legacy of both universes… and doing it in the most bonkers, fun way imaginable!"
For information on how to acquire copies of MY LITTLE PONY / TRANSFORMERS, please contact Seibertron.com about how to pre-order this product, or contact your local comic shop, or visit http://www.comicshoplocator.com to find a store near you.

Dude, that is great.
I think this crossover could be a lot of fun. I'll check it out.

Tell them to go read Transformers/New Avengers.
I don't know why they're so upset though, it's not like they're being forced to read it. It's not like it's going to become the status quo.
It's just a crossover.
Transformers has done it multiple times with many franchises (with mostly little success, but that's just my opinion) and nothing has changed. The world continued. Transformer toys continued to be produced. blah blah blah.
Don't like it? Don't read it. Unbunch your panties and go find some bigger travesty to get upset over.

If anyone's worried about this: keep in mind we survived Michael Bay on 5 separate occasions.
Yes, and we'll need all of that willpower to survive this idiocy.

I doubt it will be worse then TF/ New Avengers or TF/ Visionaries. In fact I dare say this might be light hearted fun, what's the harm in that? As Burn said, don't like it? Don't buy it, move along.

Yeah a crossover with Prime would make more sense, but this is fine.Munkky wrote:This might have been a fun and interesting little crossover if it came out six or seven years ago when Friendship is Magic was still in its prime (excuse the pun), but a it is, it feels a bit late to the party.
Anyone think they'll actually hit a weekly publication schedule?

Solipsist wrote:They are REALLY doing this?! Hey HASBRO, bring back the old KENNER line of M.A.S.K. and CENTURIONS. THAT would be spectacular news. A new toyline and new animated series to go with them. I never understood the hype or alleged appeal of talking pastel-colored ponies. That stated, I miss The Care Bears.
yeah they are doing it but I doubt they'll include/introduce a strong male character within MLP cast.
well MASK was brought back but it was lack luster not very well executed.
Centurions isn't for Hasbro to do any with i'm afraid to say that belongs to the jack kirby estate.

They were right here complaining loudly and clearly. The links JelZe posted before are full of all the naysayers who crucified the very idea of ponies and Transformers interacting together.o.supreme wrote:It's not really my thing but whatever. Where we're all these people complaining back in 2013?
Same with anytime a commercial from Hub Network was news'd if it featured ponies or any other "girl show" characters along with Transformers, which happened often since the Hub tended to mix and match its programming casts in its network commercials.

Maybe there is some truth to the notion that many fandoms collective memories don't exceed 5 years.

It is fascinating to see how much a girls toy brand interacting with a boys toy brand can bring out so much sexism and insecurity in a fandom.o.supreme wrote:For good or ill, at Least some of us remember. I mean, did anyone complain when the predominately male-led Toy Story films had Barbies in them?

Maybe, but IIRC the last two crossovers (Star Trek and Ghostbusters) were pretty well-received, so if this and the Terminator crossover turn out well too.
I'm cautiously optimistic. If they get this right, it could be a lot of fun.

Sabrblade wrote:Way back at BotCon 2014, in honor of the convention's 20th anniversary, a special BotCon Retrospective Panel was held at which 21 unrealized concepts for potential BotCon/TCC exclusives were shown. The first ten were for those that never made it past the concept stage, while the second ten were for those that were initially approved but later rejected (and the 21st one just a bonus).
The panel forbid any photos or filming, so most of these concepts have never been seen publicly. Though, over the years, some of them have been shown online.
Of these concepts, the 10th one shown (meaning, one of the ten that were never approved) was one that was described as "You'll either love this one or hate this one."
It was "Twilight Sparkle Prime" redecoed from Beast Machines Battle Unicorn.
And now, the BotCon Twitter has posted that concept for all eyes to see.Seems like now would be the perfect time to show this concept. With the news of IDW’s Transformers/MLP crossover, here is the mock up for Twilight Sparkle Prime shown at BotCon 2014.
Former Fub Pub member and current Night Shining member Jesse Wittenrich sheds some additional light on this mock up:And here's the "official" reveal of the Twilight Sparkle Prime mock-up (first shown 2014 but I believe it was made in 2012 or 2013). It wasn't made to fit any theme but as a stand-alone.I'd originally wanted to do Shining Armor because of all the... shining armor. But the "mane" character had a better chance.
I'm not sure how many more shades of purple could have gone into the mock-up lol #botcon #transformers

I love it! They should release it to coincide with the TF/MLP comic. But not as an exclusive.

You can check out the full interview by following the above link, and you can also read some snippets of the interview included below. Let us know what you think and let us know how excited you are for this crossover that will hopefully soon grace our comic book shelves!
Were you skeptical at first that My Little Pony and Transformers could come together for a comic book?
IAN FLYNN: Not skeptical, more like delightfully baffled. With a little bit of work and research, they came together surprisingly easily. It’s like mixing up your toy boxes and playing with everything.
SAM MAGGS: I thought the idea was both absolutely brilliant and absolutely bonkers. I pitched on it immediately.
.....
How difficult was it to have two artistic styles for this four-part series?
JACK LAWRENCE: I didn’t actually approach it as two artistic styles as such. It’s different characters as part of the same animated TV show like, say, Bobby interacting with Uni in the ’80s Dungeons & Dragons show. The two character types are built differently, but exist in the same world.
.....
What do you like about Twilight Sparkle as a character?
SAM MAGGS: I think I find Twilight Sparkle relatable, personally. She loves to read and learn and can get lost in books. But over the course of the series, she’s really come out of her shell, and that’s inspiring.
What do you think is the most appealing aspect of the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic series for its fans?
JACK LAWRENCE: I think everything about it is appealing. The characters and world designs are just so pleasing to the eye, which draws you in, but then it’s very, very funny at times — and the stories are really good. You don’t necessarily expect ‘epic’ from My Little Pony, but that’s what you get!
