I bought all three USA editions when they came out and they were well worth the extra money.

Those figures probably would never have seen a regular release in Japan (I suspect because of size and/or because of electronics), so they would be "USA only". Since they're "USA only", but still desirable, Takara repainted them and slapped "USA Edition" on them for release in Japan.
I know, they're weird...
