Nice, guess the crown really is translucent; just one more thing that'll break once you look at it in-hand :BANG_HEAD:

HA!

Clear plastic gets a bad wrap. Unless you're a kid banging his toys together it should have a long life.

I don't get the fear of clear plastic. I have 19 to 22 year old Microman toys, like the ones in my sig that are fine. Heck Beast Wars and Beast Machines too. Maybe there is something to be said about mid-west American climate. I've also never had rubber wheels or tank treads dry rot on me.

Uhhhhhhhhh, I did not bang my figure (Big Convoy) at all thank you. Of course I purchased him back in 2004 (he was released in 1999) so for a 15 year old toy that was well cared for, his translucent part broke not due to abuse.

Life is full of unknowns I'd grant you that but as a collector on our part, did care for the item to be far from abuse yet it still broke.

The crown part on G G is not so much an issue but that Starscream is.Oh mark my word, that joint in the torso.

Hellscream just did a bit of hyperbole. But the breaking is not conjecture, only a matter of time. I'd like for my expensive toys to last and not break at the seams for no apparent reasons. If it breaks apart, it should be due to my dumbness like dropping it on the floor or something.

I agree sir, the only thing I've ever had happen is one or two white figures yellowing. And MP05 rusting..other than that, no issues with the things!

My solution to the clear plastic Starscream, I got a nice Offroad that's not being used as a limb. He'll be a nice replacement for a right arm while Starscream goes on the shelf next to Unicron. :-D

To be perfectly honest the only defected toys I've ever had was BM Ultra Jetstorm chrome flaking, tire rot on RID Prime, and (sorry Cobs) my Microman Kicker blowing out his knee for no apparent reason.

I didn't care much at all about the translucent breakage issue (it does look cool and all especially for the Ghost effect) and just heard of it a few years back. But it did happen to me :-( . In as much as I don't like to rain on anyone's parade ( I do really want this figure.......arrgh!) By all means get it folks. Just make sure you inspect the SS part from time to time.

If only this GG isn't this hard @ss expensive ( extra Y 8000 )but a mass release (ordering from intermediaries also tucks in extra), it would be less painful if it breaks.....due to my carelessness and not because of the materials used.

* I wish some product out there is available that strengthens plastic of this type.

I see nothing wrong with the plastic and isolated incidents do not make it a cheap plastic or make this line a "scam". Things just don't break for no reason there's always a factor that causes it. My blackjack broke but I know that it was my fault, I'm not sitting here damming Hasbro for my mistake.

RID Prime tire rot goes hand in hand with that figure :-P (Me too, broke in the middle so I sold him for the JP version which is still whole)

Nice that you got my point. If a fig breaks, it should be because of my fault. It is easier to swallow :HEADHURTS: . Wishing that figs today were like the ones made by Fisher Price in the 80s. Them American made plastic figures/vehicles really could take all sorts of punishment.

Again folks. Sorry if I rained on your parade. Get the set. Only make sure to inspect him from time to time ( I might even take the plunge too despite my recent heart plastic break as TT really knows how to pimp their figures). :x

Will Grand Galvatron be sold as a set or will any of the limb bots be able to be purchased separately? I'd like too buy four ghost SS's to go on Sky Lynx.

That Grand Galvatron is irrational tempting to me. I don't even know why. It's just a damn sexy set of crazy random figures of awesomeness.

I'll back up that clear plastic fragile issue. Not a TF mind you, but I have some transparent stikfas figures that just started to crack at some of the ball joints. Made little sense to me as they just sat on my desk and got posed a bit now and them.

Good to know it's a thing to watch out for. Especially with all the painted clear plastic being used nowadays.

Big Convoy?, so was it his chest? I am trying to think of where there is clear plastic on him and thats the only area i can think about.

I havent had much problem with TFs. It's more the recent ones that broke for me or had quality issues. And BW TM Megatron of course.

As for clear plastic though I havent had an issue so far. I just bought Takara's JRX which is full of clear plastic unlike the Hasbro Railracer version which has none and even though it is a 15 year old toy, it is still perfect with no sign of any strain or damage.

I kinda hope they skip the three main seekers and do more obscure ones instead. I know it won't happen but at least we'd get some character diversity. Plus I don't need to get another set of the same three guys.

The left shoulder socket that connects to his shoulder ball joint (It is translucent plastic). It broke just like that. No abuse, nothing. Just Standing looking awesome in display. And nope, his right arm was the one holding his buster gun so no stress at all on the part that broke.

You're talking about Hb here. The guys who green lit Platinum Laser Prime! 8-} One of the most awesomesauce mold for Scourge turned into a shelf warming mess of an overpriced re-issue.

They also passed on G1 Bumble toon accurate head and iPod head mold Optimus Prime. Both would have been a bonanza if released locally. :HEADHURTS: and shelf warmed the recent Astrotrain/Blitzwing Platinum release. The ones they got right were the Platinum Seekers, Blaster/Perceptor and Trypticon. The Insecticons would have been a success too if not for the weird price range.

I'm with you about the clear plastic, I've had very few have issues ... at least no moreso than regular plastic tabs or joints breaking on regular ol' plastic Transformers toys.

However, I'm definitely a plastic tires instead of rubber tires guy because the cracked tire problem is frustrating. If it hasn't happened to you yet, just consider yourself lucky though I'd be willing to be you've got a few cracked tires in your collection and you just haven't noticed yet ... especially if you live in the Midwest. Unless you constantly lubricate rubber tires on your Transformers, your G1, RID or Masterpiece Convoy tires will crack eventually, the same reason why O-Rings dry out with G.I. Joe figures and Masters of the Universe figures suffer their notorious crotch rot that most vintage MOTU figures suffer from eventually.

Don't forget about united breakdown, huh, wonder what a Galvatron(us) comprised of 4 breakdowns would be called? And would he randomly fall apart due to the name of all of his limbs

I would dig out RID Prime right now if he wasn't buried at the back of a shelf.
and ya, I have had plenty of Joes snap in half. That's an easy fix. Rubber tires not so much. It makes sense though. Rubber is an organic compound, so eventually it will break down. Looks like I have some inspecting to do.

And Fenrir, to be fare, my Black Big Convoy broke too, but not in the same place, and not clear plastic. that toy is just fragile all the way around.

I don't doubt the the clear plastic thing is a thing, but it would be interesting to know if climate has anything to do with it. My brother has had problems with clear plastic and rubber. He lives in California. And I know tropical climates reek havoc on all kinds of materials, so I could see where Fen lives being a factor.

I'm assigned in a tropical country mi amigo. That is a big factor I'd grant you that. But as stated in my other thread, the room where they are stored is under A/C at least 4 hours a day. Would you believe that I just transformed my Big Convoy just once since 2004 and left him in uber pose mode ever since? I was half expecting the "buster gun/trunk would be the first to give in ( I used Armor On on it) and the part in question ( left shoulder) never was exposed to added stress? :-(

My first RID I purchased was in Orchard Rd Singapore in 2002. Not in the local TRU but a specialty shop as the former didn't carry them (Hb version Fire Optimus Prime/UM). It didn't take 4 months for the front wheels of Optimus to crack.I later sold both for the Takara version back in 2009.......the Takara versions are still uncracked would you believe?)

So this is a risk for all of us collectors, especially if assigned in the tropics.

I didnt know about that specialty shop. I always preferred that odd minimall near chinatown wth all those second hand collector shops all stacked close together. That's where I got the best deal on RID Air Atack Optimus Primal (for 30$ Singaporian). Good times :)

Well, leaving a figure in a pose, for a long time can be detrimental to joints; happened to most of my Bionicle collection, most of the ball sockets have cracked or snapped as a result of not being exercised. While not a strict comparison, they are both ball-socket joint systems, so lends some insight to the issue.

I will say that ball diameter may have something to do with it... Big convoys shoulders have large ball joints, and dragstrips are rather large, but the 'standard' size and below never give me an issue - as even now, cyb cannonball has squeaky ball joints, but wreckloose doesn't :-?

The pose on the left arm was the neutral arms down no stress. But I think you hit the bulls eye about the ball joint. It is hard@ss big.

Now for the extremity mold used the UW/CW line. Its good that the actual 'bot head is different from the socket head unlike the original combiners. UW Groove is hopefully safe but the torso part where the connection to the shoulder socket. It is a future worrisome issue a few years from now (for the Starscream mold). It's the translucent part that is clamped on the "shoulder/socket part".

On if this set is worth the purchase......I'd say yes, but the traumatized part of me is what's holding back the order now as he is sooooooooo good looking with the new retools and recolors (d@mn you Starscream!

Starscream is always the cause of dissent among the 'cons 8-}

This thread is depressing. It's made me re-evaluate if I want to continue collecting toys, especially after a broken tab on Scrapper and just picking up a sealed Acid Storm only to open it up and find misassembled hips.

TFs have always had a limited lifetime IRL. Poorly designed joints have been an issue since G1. Hello, Metroplex! How many guns with broken pegs? You have to really care for a die cast figure to make sure the paint doesn't come off. Stressed joints and chipped paint are part of being a collector. It will happen to every figure eventually. And I haven't even gotten to GPS.

Yeah, for whatever reason, 'standard' and smaller ball joints are fine, heck, my bw figures are still good (last I checked  ) but once you get to about the size of the bionicle ball joint - actually they seem approximate to dragstrips shoulders :-? - the seem to go bad after a while, whether they were used or not - rook could be another one to look out for

But beyond anything else, I would have thought that large ball-socket joints would be prone to stress since the plastic is larger/thicker/denser than that of smaller ball-joints, and would thus be prone to stress - especially if you removed it; perhaps cracking is the stress skipping the middle phase :-?

We learn a new development each day. Nothing lasts forever. The trouble is that when the damage is caused by GPS and translucentous breakousmyheartis syndrome. I think these two phenomena are twins separated by birth. And there is no "American Restorations" for TF figures

I can confirm that clear plastic is pure evil. Most Japanese figure stands are made of the stuff and they just love to break. And don't get me started on the Legends Abominus box-set, which is made almost entirely of clear plastic (Sinnertwin is permanently in "thunder thigh mode" after his rotating thigh panels snapped and had to be glued in place).

Unite Warriors Bruticus!

Blast Off looks to be a new mold, and Vorter (Vortex) appears to have FOUR rotor blades!

Fellow Siebertronians, courtesy of TFYuki, we get our first look at Unite Warriors Bruticus by way of this silhouette, and, confirming what many have long-suspected, through it we get a first-look at UW Blast-off. And, as his fore-bearer UW Groove, Blast-off, too, seems to be getting the UW treatment of receiving a G1 accurate mold in the form of a shuttle. Not only that, but it appears that Vortex too is receiving some remolding in the form of a 4 rotor prop.

Have a look at the image mirrored below, and let us know what you think in the comments. Are you excited for UW Bruticus now?
