After a couple months of waiting, we have finally been given the full reveal of the Transformers Subscription Service 2.0 figure, Chromedome! Chromedome, as we've been previously informed, will be a retool and redeco of Prime: Robots in Disguise Deluxe Wheeljack, and will come with not only Wheeljack's swords, but his old partner, Stylor, who no longer transforms into Chromedome's head, but his weapon. Stylor is a redeco of the Micron S.2, who was available only in Japanese markets under their Prime: Arms Micron line.

Trying to please too many people at once. If the mold is trying to go the comic route, then do comic colours. Instead of trying to compete with FP who has the majority of G1 fans on lock.

I don't mind the more G1 colours. It's the head that makes it for me. Not matter how much I look at the FP version it never really strikes me as Chromedome. This one does despite the colours.

Looks like I'm going to have to get him and Rewind. I hope BBTS will get them. Can't afford going through the club. Especially since these are the only 2 I want

Aside from the silly giant symbols, I like this guy's vehicle mode. But something about his head looks really off, like it's too long or something.

Something still looks "off" about the head to me too, but that's just because I'm still 3 years behind on IDW, so it looks more like Hellbat in toy colors than Chromedome. Once they've got it actually sculpted, maybe they'll find some way to get it onto a jet mold down the road?

I wonder if his bio will rationalize Wheeljack's swords by claiming Stylor talked him into carrying them because katanas are "in" right now. Or has Chromedome actually been associated with swords? I know Stylor becoming a crossbow is sort of an homage to the Charge Arrow, but I still haven't watched much of Headmasters.

If I didn't hate that Wheeljack mold...

After looking at him and waiting a while for the final reveal.... ehhh, just makes me want to spend the money on FP Code instead. One third the cost of the Sub service. :-?

Am I the only one who thinks it'd be easier to just paint a $7 Wheeljack? The head is really nice, but not necessarily worth $40-70 to me. :BANG_HEAD:

kirbenvost wrote:But something about his head looks really off, like it's too long or something.

To be fair, this is Prime Wheeljack - his original head is buried in his body, so I'm not sure what head would look right on this mold. Needs more neck. :BANG_HEAD:

The three Autobot emblems and that brown are my only complaints. Hopefully the brown will be less bold on the final product. And I really hope that the legs are made of the brown plastic and not brown paint on the beige. That doesn't look too good.

Yup! TFsource is where I got him. Quad U is awesome, and Smart Robin looks cool enough that I had to go ahead, backtrack and spring for Code.

Conveniently, Aces Toy Store also has Code in stock.

Five Below has most of the PRID deluxes for five bucks. Picked up 6 Vehicons from there a couple weeks ago, bringing my Steve count to 12. Because honestly, who doesn't need a dozen Vehicons?

FINALLY! What took them so darn long to reveal this thing? This was the very first TFSS 2.0 figure they ever announced, and the second one to have any visual reveals to it, yet it was the last one to have its toy mock up shown? It's about darn time they showed us Chromedome.

Now all we have left to see are the Arms Microns. :D

Yep, I signed up for the first TFSS for Ultra Mammoth, Breakdown, Slipstream and Scourge and too a much lesser degree, Jackpot who's grown on me some now that I've gotten a better look at the car mode (never had Animated Jazz) but the TFSS 2.0 is looking like a bust so far. I'm only interested in Barricade and Thrustinator. 2 out of 6 just isn't worth the price of admission. I'll get 1 of each of the ones I want from BBTS for around $99.99 each or less (probably less judging by the prices of most of the TFSS 1.0 figures on BBTS right now).

This year's really a mixed bag for me with regards to the club's offerings. I really LOVE Rampage, so I'm keeping my membership to get him (worth the $40 to me, even if he is just a TF:Prime repaint) but I'm skipping Transmutate because the "build-a-figure" version of her (her, right?) that came with the Hasbro 10th Anniversary Beast Wars figures is spot on perfect.

Blurrz managed to capture the IDW feel while TFCC went for G1. Personally, I like blurrz's custom over the exclusive, but I would strongly perfer a massed released figure that really captures his IDW self.

Hasbro did a great job with the other Thrilling 30's deluxes, I don't see why the wouldn't be able to do a decent Chromedome.

I actually modified how I transform my TFC Animated Cheetor to make his alt mode look kinda like that. I detach the shield piece that forms the hood and have it connected to the back of his head underneath the rear of the car, leaving 2 separate fenders with wheels on the front and a gap in between.

Well, I'm a bit lukewarm on this, but I really do want an official Chromedome toy and an official Rewind toy that can... uh, do more than stand up perfectly straight. Those two are the biggest reasons I'm getting the service this year (instead of just getting figures a la carte, as I did with Scourge).

That said, I can't think of a mode that would've worked better, and the headsculpt is quite nice.

Have to say colors are spot on, IMHO. The comics depict lighting on the figures. (Sometimes dim lighting, sometimes brighter.) You can't base a toy on the blown out pastel colors of a comic. Makes the toy look like it should be in a little girl's baby buggy with a bonnet on it. Wugh. G1 rich colors for the win.

Seibertron.com News Admin El Duque is in Dallas attending Joe Con 2014 where he was able to snap a few pictures of the head sculpts from upcoming Transformers Collectors' Club exclusive figures on display. From the TFSS 2.0 we have head sculpts of Chromdome, Rewind and Thrustinator. Also on display is the head sculpt of Protoform X which is the 2014 incentive figure for joining the Transformers Collectors' Club.

They all look great. Damnit, they should just give IDW its own toyline already so we don't need to pay heaps for repaints. I want new moulds!
Re: TFSS 2.0 Final Figure Reveal: Chromedome (1564786)

The sculpts look great, but because I usually expect prototypes/test-shots to be white or grey, this color just gives me the weird idea that FunPub's hard work tragically suffered the fastest-acting case of photodegradation in history.

And even though I know why it has to be so small, X's severed head just don't look right next to Waspinust's. It's making me real impatient to see them attached to something.

And since Joe's in the topic's title, I may as well mention this here: while my regular rounds of Livonia-area 5-Belows turned up no new TFs, I did notice Joe Retaliation figures have finally (inevitably) shown up. I didn't see Lady Jaye, but some of the others (like Firefly-with-go-kart) I thought were in her case for some reason. Is she shortpacked, or are there any other scarce ones I should look out for?

They did give it its own toyline. That's what the Generations Thrilling 30 line currently is.

The fact that IDW G1 Chromedome is only being made this way means that Hasbro has no interest in giving us a proper IDW G1 Chromedome toy, so Fun Pub is giving us the next best thing.

No it isn't. The Thrilling 30 is intended to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the brand. There may be IDW characters in it, but it is not an IDW line.
Unless I missed those issues with the BH Platinum Ultra Magnus and the Constructobots BH Predaking in them, since those are both of them are officially numbered Thrilling 30 releases. The Generations packages say "Thrilling 30" on them, but figures like Sandstorm and FoC Grimlock haven't been in the comics. So, to say that the line is the IDW line is not very correct.

You may correct me now as you wish, because I know better than to think you won't.

Well, if you insist:

Dagon wrote:No it isn't. The Thrilling 30 is intended to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the brand. There may be IDW characters in it, but it is not an IDW line.
I said the Generations Thrilling 30 line. "Thrilling 30" on its own has a much broader meaning like what you said. The portion of the Generations toyline that utilizes the "Thrilling 30" sublabel commemorates the 30th anniversary by acting as a vehicle outlet for toys based on the IDW G1 comics, which comics themselves are likewise commemorating the anniversary.

Grimlock isn't a Thrilling 30 toy.

It's the closest thing we have to one, atm. And I didn't say it was "the" IDW line, just that it is currently a line for IDW's G1 comics to have their own toys. :D

This does little to prove me wrong. I myself said that FoC Grimlock is not a Thrilling 30 toy, nor an IDW toy. I also know that Magnus and Contructo Predaking aren't Generations toys. I said that they weren't as well. You are the one saying that Thrilling 30 and Generations are IDW toys, not me.
And, you said

Which means that the Generations line is the IDW line. That's what that statement means. You didn't say closest thing to or whatever you're saying now.
In the long run I don't care, and I'm not trying to make something out of this. I'm having a hard time believing I'm baiting someone by pointing out that Generations Thrilling 30 is not an IDW specific line when there are figures that fit either the Thrilling 30 or Generations alone that are not IDW-based toys, like Sandstorm, Grimlock, and others.
But, you know.

I'm not talking about the entire Generations line, only the current phase of it:
Phase 1 - War for Cybertron
Phase 2 - "Classics-style"
Phase 3 - Fall of Cybertron
Phase 4 - Thrilling 30

The stuff that came before the Thrilling 30 phase of the Generations line is superfluous to what I'm referring to. The exact words I used were "Generations Thrilling 30". Not "Generations" alone, not "Thrilling 30" alone, but "Generations Thrilling 30", which is a specific group of figures within the greater line. Not once did I say that every Generations and every Thrilling 30 toy is for IDW. Only those released in the "Generations Thrilling 30" line-within-a-line.

Honestly, how is it so difficult to understand what I'm referring to?

And why do you keep bringing up Grimlock when he was a Generations Fall of Cybertron figure and not a Generations Thrilling 30 figure?

Apologies in advance. I'm argumentative. ;)

Even if we stick to "Generations Thrilling 30" we have several non-IDW toys in that line. Oddly, mostly voyagers: Sandstorm, Blitzwing, Doubledealer, Rhinox, Whirl (yes, Whirl is a prominent IDW character, but the Generations toy is arguably more a G1 homage)...

I would say they're more or less IDW-styled. That's a fair assertion to make.
Re: TFSS 2.0 Final Figure Reveal: Chromedome (1564861)
Posted by MINDVVIPE on April 12th, 2014 @ 11:26pm CDT
Sabrblade, it should have been clear that what I meant was a line dedicated to giving us IDW figures. I read the comics and definitely know that many recent generations/thrilling 30 figures are IDW representations (with slight changes), but we do not have a Chromedome that looks like an IDW Chromedome. If it was a line focused on IDW like how TF Prime had their own toyline, do you believe they would have the new character be a repaint of an older one? That is like if they introduced the Prime Wheeljack figure and he was just a repaint of Classics Sunstreaker.

All I'm saying is that it would be sweet to have a line dedicated to IDW, meaning everyone from Fort Max to rung get figures with no shortcuts in repaints from Hasbro or funpub or whoever.

I sure hope Hasbro gives us more Voyager scaled Beast Wars figures in the future. That Protoform X head makes me want to love my Rampage figure, but then I look at him.

I mean, he's decent, especially for the time. But he doesn't stand on his own, he's super kibbly, and his chrome paint is almost all gone. :-(

And those stupid claws - one of them broke off at the base, and unfortunately that is one crustacean that doesn't regenerate.
