It's been another weekend, another late Thursday night has come and gone, and you know what that means? Another work week. But to help you along to the next weekend, we’ve got some Transformers related comics, Beast Wars, Fort Max, Unicron, and toy packaging content for you to listen in on, and then share your ideas and thoughts about in this episode’s thread.

Leading us though this journey is ScottyP, who’s joined by the always introspective, Counterpunch, and mitten-state dwelling daddios, RodimusConvoy13 and Tigertrack. And Rom the Spaceknight.

Episode #148 “And Rom The Space Knight“ is available directly and in our RSS Feed, and should appear on iTunes and Stitcher Radio within 24 to 48 hours of when you see this news post.

Our first chat is about the most recent issue of Transformers #54, and new phoenix series Transformers: ’TIl All Are One #1 (from the ashes of Windblade comes…) and of course, not to be left out a little something we like to call More Than Meets the Eye, issue #54. As we learn bits and pieces more about it, our team returns to talk a little more about ‘The Revolution’, MASK, and Rom the Spaceknight.

Transformers News: Twincast/Podcast Episode #148: "And Rom The Space Knight"

The group breaks into comic book discussion on the lighter side talking about Transformers #54 (or Robots in Disguise, whatever you refer to it as) and whether the current arc is getting any better or not. We definitely treat this one pretty lightly, but you can expect SPOILERS in each issue…if you don’t want to hear them time for some fast forwarding. We’ve got reviews for these three issues on site as well (Review for TF #54, Review for TAAO #1, and Review for MTMTE #54) if you want to read some more about these issues.

What is Galvatron’s final play…does he have a trump card or is it all on the table? Will Superion ever combine again? Are Optimus Prime and Starscream on even footing now (both chosen ones in the eyes of the Titans)? Is this how you pictured COMBINER WARS playing out?

Transformers News: Twincast/Podcast Episode #148: "And Rom The Space Knight"

The newest series in the Transformers family is ’Til All Are One’, the phrase that meant a lot in the beloved 1986 movie, and since has been re-uttered in the new movies, cartoons, and other media a little ad nauseum. This is the rebirth of the Windblade series as something that maybe isn’t supposed to be so Windblade-centric, but more about new era Cybertron united and its Council of Worlds.

Transformers News: Twincast/Podcast Episode #148: "And Rom The Space Knight"

The launch issue focuses in on events and characters related to Swindle and what he may or may not have known, and how it is effecting Starscream, the Combaticons, and the rest of Cybertron.

We ask pretty obvious questions like, “Is Swindle still alive?”, “Who is DC- 357?”, but introspectively Counterpunch brings to point Starscream, and his precariously balanced leadership position.

And MTMTE… so many questions, and many answers… which lead to more questions. Our big question, “Should Megatron die?”, and related to that “Will Megatron actually die in issue #55?” Some awesome hypotheses on what’s in this hollow planet and where RUNG and NIGHTBEAT are during all this super-powered fighting and action and what does CHOOM, CHOOM, CHOOM signal to us.

Transformers News: Twincast/Podcast Episode #148: "And Rom The Space Knight"

To wrap up the comic discussion, we talk more REVOLUTION, since we received some new solicits, we look into our crystal balls again and decide if the TRANSFORMERS universe is getting a soft reboot, no reboot, or a very hard reboot. And ROM the Spaceknight.

Transformers News: Twincast/Podcast Episode #148: "And Rom The Space Knight"

Whew. That was a lot.

*Writer's Note*- not in the podcast though- I wanted to give some love to Nick Roche who is creating some truly awesome stuff for Transformers fans and recently went through a series of very traumatic and wonderful events causing the delay in a product we were really anxious for. Nick recently shared his trials and triumphs in a blogpost. We love you brother, be well, and enjoy the new addition. Thank you for all of your efforts in these times.

On to our Beast Wars Re-Watch, Re-Action, “my queen”. This time we watched episode 18, ‘Spider’s Game’, and episode 19, ‘Call of the Wild’. “Defend the hive!” These episodes introduced the ever cool, very memorable, or not, but ultimately hot, pyromaniac loyalist— INFERNO (no not that INFERNO, which is also very cool, but not talked about this time)! Not everyone thinks Inferno is so awesome though, and we discuss the introduction of this new soldier and his place in Predacon history. And Rom the Spaceknight.

We briefly reach into our creative bags and throw some paint schemes out there for the new PLATINUM EDITION UNICRON and KRANIX. Clown Unicorn was my favorite, but Scotty preferred the Rom colored one (not actual things, listen for our ideas).

Oh my, SDCC is coming soon, and we share what version of TITAN MASTERS FORTRESS MAXIMUS we want the most to be our Fortress… SDCC with sword, fancy paint, and very Fortress looking Cerebro (and very hard/expensive to get if you aren’t at SDCC or know someone going), the regular HASBRO release; without sword, and with REBIRTH accurate Cerebros, which should be a little more plentiful but will probably be hard like Metroplex to find locally at retail (but not harder than SDCC or TT), or the general release Takara Tomy Fort Max with no sword that we know of—except 100 lucky folks in China, and a HEADMASTERS accurate Fortress looking Cerebros. As before with Metroplex, there may still be more versions coming in the Asian market for different conventions that are not yet announced.

You’d think this would be enough, but nope, we finally delve into a topic led by Counterpunch that breaches the world of packages… Transformers toy packages that is. The best? The worst? What in packaging attracts you? What turns you off? What packages do you keep or do you just throw it all away?

I was wondering, I never really listen to the twincast, I mean I have a few times, but I don't keep up with it, but have you guys ever considered a livestream? I personally think that would be pretty cool.

Considered: yes. Are there currently plans: to be completely honest, nope, but if enough people ask, who would we be to say no? :)

edit: Also, glad you've tuned in a few times! If there's something we could do better or cover more often that might sway you to tune in a bit more, I'd love to hear those suggestions as well :WRECKERS:

Love the podcast, but I'm not a comic reader. Can you guys post a timestamp in the podcast description of when the comic discussions end so those of us that don't read can skip that part?

Well, it's mostly convenience I guess. I don't have a lot of space to go and download stuff. It was just a suggestions, I find while doing my art, it's fun to turn on a livestream from Vinesauce or something. Just thinking a transformers themed livestream would be pretty cool, upload the streams to Ryan's youtube later even. I could just be speaking out my butt here though, I might be the only one who'd enjoy such a thing

If you skip to about an hour in, the comic talk wraps up about then, according to my notes anyway.

Sorry this one was so comics heavy for those not into the comics. Have we convinced you that you should be reading the fiction too, or at least some of it?

Posting the times is a big one. Honestly, there's not a whole lot of content left these days that's all that interesting to me. I don't care about the comics, don't care about Beast Wars, mildly interested at best in bragging rights...if I gotta put a lot of effort in searching for what's left, not sure it's really worth the effort.

Thanks for the suggestion Kibble. What are you looking for? More toys talk? TItans Returns is hitting soon, and Powermaster Optimus Prime will no doubt get discussed next time, as will other TMs that folks have in hand. I just got my shipment from BBTS and will be playing with my new TMs soon!

We definitely will have more toys to talk about next time, like the MP Inferno ladder gimmick! How stinkin' awesome is that engineering!

Toys (MP heavy a plus,) inside info/rumors, 3rd Party, Transformer politics (dealings around Hasbro, Takara, retailers, 3rd Party groups, etc, especially when they conflict with one another,) TF conspiracy theories (this is a result of this...etc,) and finally, answering my questions that I'm not allowed to ask anymore. That'd be my vote, anyhow.

I wouldn't plan on this, but know there have been attempts to break news (after some official approval) that didn't pan out, mostly because "exclusives" are typically negotiated with much bigger fish. See: Entertainment Weekly getting first dibs on CW imagery, Newsarama getting to post 5-page IDW comics previews before anyone else most of the time, etc.

Got all my comics today. In order I read them.

Read Sins of the Wreakers first. Holy crap that was a good final issue. Seems even more emotional knowing what Roche was going through at the time.

TAaO was good. Laying some nice ground work

RiD, awesome. The summoning of the Titan was epic! Uh, Autobots have "reinforcements!" Yeah. Understatement. Wonder if ol' Scream is crapping bolts now...

Mtmte. Well. Holy crap. Everyone was awesome. Megatron went full epic there. I hope (and believe) his story does not end there. I one stay doubt they can kill him at this point in his arc and I really hope they don't. As was mentioned on the Cast, I think something else gives us the triple CHOOM!

Damn, but that was an awesome issue! Never, EVER thought I'd care about Megatron like this. Killing him now seems a disservice. Ratchet's revaluation was divine...

Crankcase has 'choomed' before, and would be an appropriately dumb guy to try and attack Tarn and Overlord. Besides, if exRiD is to be believed, a Worldsweeper is gonna hit the White House at some point, and the crew of the W.A.P. has seen one of those before :-? Might make sense to bring them back into the fold.

I don't think they'll kill off Megatron, but were they ever going to do so, this would be the most appropriate, shocking, meaningful time to do it. Like Counterpunch said, if you're going to have any lights dying, there he is right there. I could also see a death and quick resurrection. IDW has shown that while most of their deaths are final, if they really need someone for a story, they'll find a way to get the character back.

Megatron was thought dead at one point, Prime, Nightbeat, the list goes on, so very valid point, but when brought back that lessens the effect of the next death, i.e. Makes it less meaningful and pretty lame... See Marvel and DC....

So because I like the idea of starscream being the chosen one, i've been rereading any issue of transformers that involves starscream and the titans. In the annual, as everyone remembers, the crystal city metro titan was awakened by starscream; the titan names him not only the person that will unite all cybertronians, but as a conqueror. After that the Metrotitan dies. During the events of windblade volume two, he brings multiple colonies into the council of worlds. However the more interesting part comes on the day trip to Eukaris. During that outing, starscream and windblade interacts a bit with Blackarachnia, the prophet of the colony whose foreseen the metrotitan of their planet's death. The person responsible for the death of that titan is starscream, meaning he's been present of the appearance four metrotitans and subsequent death of three. these event's would seem divine/biblical in nature and magnitude. Also blackarachnia, a prophet, is seen rubbing up on starscream at the end of that adventure. Does that mean anything probably not, but it's cute.

So based of of that, and the matrix of leadership telling prime, his purpose is to fight for freedom, as well as the religious rhetoric of the mistress of flames, and the visions he's had; Prime and Starscream are both divinely ordained. Prime from the matrix, and starscream from a metrotitan, which would be the closest approximation of an angel to cybertronains. If prime's goal in the cosmic sense is to liberate, starscream's would be to unite. Starscream, through ambition has been attempting to unite the colonies. Starscream has been responsible for making contact with multiple colonies aside from caminus, and is the first to extend the proverbial olive branch. Starscream is making a genuine effort to unite the colonies, albeit under his rule. It only when prime intervenes with the mistress of flame that his goals and authority is challenged. By all means starscream would have most likely been able to conquer caminus during the events of combiner wars through means of military, political, and economic negotiations; prime only brought religious zealotry into the equation. Religious fervor is actually one of the things starscream lacks, despite his bolstering about being the chosen one, dosen't display any faith in any cosmic entity, only himself and his machinations. Keeping with this logic, Optimus has fulfilled his duty of fighting for liberation by this point in the story. The intergalactic civil war of bots and cons essentially ended by the death of optimus prime oneshot. The people were freed from their previous authority, and the status quo of war. Now with prime returning, the position of Savior, prophet et cettera, are forced on him after his goal is fulfilled. With him being forced into this position means that prime may be becoming a false prophet, prime's time was finished, the mantle of savior has been passed on to someone else, starscream, for a different purpose, uniting the free peoples. All hail optimus seems to bee setting up optimus prime's fall from grace, he is now becoming someone who subjugates people. Contrasting this is starscream's actions. Chosen one day was meant for people to redirect their love, affection, and respect to him, instead through chance, only part of his deceleration was broadcast leading to it being a day of goodwill towards everyone. It's possible if the writers keep this theme going, and actually make starscream the hero no one wants, and prime the tragic villain of circumstance, prime would fall from grace, leaving starscream to unite the people free from primes crusade, including Earth.

If starscream were the one to actually unite earth with cybertron, rather than forcibly annexing it, this would play into the thematic structure of the ubiquitous phrase "till all are one". Or they could dump all that possible exehstionalism, starscream a bad guy, and his fall from political power will be what unites cybertronains, and prime is still the herald of that is good and righteous in transformers.

^ Dude, yes. :APPLAUSE:

I hope they go the route you mentioned of Starscream as the hero no one wants. I thought they might be doing that when they put him in his Armada body, which I was sad to see go but hey, toys to sell.

Optimus staying in a moral grey area, overstaying his welcome and subjugating is also something that'd be good to see explored further. All Hail Optimus has only scratched the surface of this so far, hopefully it does go deeper and the end of 54 seemed to be, potentially, a game changer. Maybe it all goes to his head, and he sees it as divine evidence that what he's doing is right?

Man I hope Revolution doesn't mess up that book entirely.

it'd be interesting if the stars will scream, and the black star in the dark cybertron prophecy are meant to reference starscream dying then coming back to life. Because it's starscream, not matter how much anyone tries to kill him, he finds an out.

It's taken me forever to actually get to this, finally got a chance to start catching up.

TAAO - I think the premise is very good, and the way they're using the Combaticons is really well played so far, despitr my initial misgivings on Brawl. Blastoff and Onslaught are great. Starscream, on the other hand, concerns me. Not from a quality point, but as a character. He clearly needs help, he's not doing too well in charge after all, and his yellow floating conscience just keeps haunting him. (Heh.)

I do think this has the strength to become an ongoing, given the new news we have on the postRevolution world - which also feeds into your Revolution discussion, really.

With TRANSFORMERS - Optimus as a True Prime is bound to have repercussions across the titles. But I have to stop here, because I finished reading 55 just before listening, so we'll see where it goes together this week!

(I also like Starscream's 'redemption' theory just above, too, for the record. We'll see how Titans Return feeds into this, too.)

MTMTE - Again, just read 55, so I can't delve too far into speculation without tripping over knowledge. But I agree with Counterpunch: Megatron's arc needs to be truncated to be fully effective.

Also, baby Ravage is hurt. I am not happy about that. Sadwave will be sad. -er.

EDIT: ACTION MAN for y'all.
