Episode #213 "How to Say Expensive and Mean It" is available directly and in our RSS Feed, and should appear on iTunes, Google Play, and Stitcher Radio within 24 to 48 hours of when you see this news post.
Here's what we talk about during this episode:
- MP-44 Optimus Prime version 3 is available for pre-order now, but will we be dropping down coin for it no matter the cost?
- Our look at Generations: War for Cybertron: Siege begins with in-hand impressions of wave 1. Follow along with the full gallery treatment starting with the deluxe class figures: Sideswipe, Hound, Flywheels (or Skytread, allegedly), and Cog
- Next up are the Micromasters: the Race Car Patrol's Roadhandler and Swindler, the Battle Patrol's Flak and Topshot, and the Air Strike Patrol's Storm Cloud and Visper.
- After that, the Battle Masters: Firedrive, Lionizer, and Blowpipe
- We finish up the Siege discussion with the Voyager class figures Optimus Prime and Megatron.
- The gang quickly notes that Ricochet and Red Swoop exist.
- Scotty shares some brief impressions of Transformers Botbots.
- Comics talk kicks off with a look at the wrap-up of Unicron. Fans waiting for trades that don't want to be spoiled on the happenings in the comics should look out for around 1:22 - 2:12:30 in the audio file.
- We ponder if Optimus Prime was worth all this trouble.
- We say goodbye and hope to not mean it with a look at the end of Lost Light
- The damage calculations for another Black Friday round of Bragging Rights take us to the finish line.

In a vacuum, all of the new figures are quite good. The transformations are nice, the sculpts are good, the detailing is good.
There seems to be a hang up that this wave one stuff is "boring" and that we're waiting for all the weird and wild things to drop.
But we live in a world where in the past 18 months we've seen:
Black Shadow
Overlord
Abominus
Elita 1
Dinobots
Battletrap
etc. etc...
We also live in a world where Big Powered is on the horizon!
The deluxe wave 1 was literally half weird and wild stuff with Flywheels and Cog.
I'm first in line to be guilty here, but I think our tendencies towards routine consumption have made us all a little short sighted to the depth of the ongoing line we're living through. New lines are always going to start with the basics. Prime and Megatron are fine bois to begin with.
I'd just caution that if you think the vanilla flavor is over-powering everything, perhaps your diet has been too spicy of late.

I'm entirely guilty of this on some of the Siege wave one stuff that isn't '84 re-re-re-redone. For the Battlemasters this is due to the LG line. Firedrive and Blowpipe are slightly bigger, worse looking versions of toys still fresh in my memory if not exactly fresh in reality. Flywheels feels less exciting because he's Battletrap but not as fun. Glad to have him, but not rocking my world.Counterpunch wrote:

They're still nice sculpts and great choices for the line on the whole, I'll freely admit to being desensitized/spoiled by a lot of good, crazy things

Ooh I forgot about that but this is a very perceptive observation!Nemesis Maximo wrote:You talked about Megatron’s character arc a bit in the Comics Talk, and how he gained a lot of respect from Ultra Magnus for being a competent leader and not just a conqueror; one thing I wanted to add to this: in Megatron’s earliest appearance on the ship, he chastised the Autobots lightly for not carrying Rodimus’ casket level, which to me is one of my favorite scenes. It emphasizes his cultured badassery and his own respect for tradition and taking pride in everything you do.

I am the opposite of you guys with the Micromasters. Roadhandler is actually my favorite of the group, I love him! He is fun for some Micromaster shenanigans.
I called Ricochet! Still sad he has no targetmaster, but He's gonna make a great limb alongside Jazz, though arm or leg is still up for debate at this point.
I agree the comic ends were a bit lackluster. Pacing was an issue, and it's sad considering how well the Unicron idea was set up and how good the idea was. Shame it didn't pan out

You just reminded me of something. Speaking of things that didnt pan out, did we ever learn why Unicron had a painting of the quintessons?
I remember Scotty getting quite excited on the podvast back when they discussed issue 1.

That Quintesson was from LV-117, which Unicron ate. it only showed up to show that Unicron was incorporating the planets he was eating into his physical form
