Here is a review for the newly revealed Transformers Legacy Evolution voyager Metalhawk. This item is out at specialty retailers, along with Twincast. The review below compares the mold to Cyclonus, showing how it is less complex in certain places. So, with this toy available at collector retailers in Canada and the US, are you going to be getting it now? Or wait to see if Walmart or Target stock it sufficiently in stores?

This just all makes me think about what could have been if Fun Pub had instead used Universe Cyclonus to make Metalhawk back in 2012.

Can his wing tips also take blast effect parts?

I think we can thank his simplicity for getting us two guns and a sword instead of just one very hollow gun like on Cyclonus.

Indeed

Great, I wasn't all that thrilled with the tail wing guns being blocked in jet mode so it's good to know the ones on the wing tips are actually intended as guns.

I just transformed Metalhawk and he's just 50% Cyclonus. The transformation is much more simple, with less steps. Also this time around, the arms turn to the front of the jet instead of the back.
Metalhawk is still pretty massive and he got a LOT of paint. It's just too bad that he doesn't have a gold plated chestplate, but that would have been overkill.

As for Rewind, he's pretty awesome. But man, they really overdid it with his accessories.

What is up with Hasbro & their jet modes lately? Jhiaxus, Skyquake & now Metal Hawk have absolutely godawful alt modes. I'm all about jet & spaceship Transformers but I won't touch any of these. I was really looking forward to this one because there haven't been many jet transformers recently but I almost puked when I saw that jet mode. What the hell happened to Hasbro? They're not even trying anymore. :(

And almost all your posts, when responding to people who dislike certain designs/lines, are just about how wrong their opinions are (especially bad, when you're a member of staff). Sorry, not all of us are happy with the way Transformers are progressing.

This used to be a forum where we could discuss differing views civilly, but apparently it's become an "agree with us, or go away" site... sad.

I really like Skyquake's alt mode, looks pretty solid

Jhiaxus is good too, I thought. Lots of undercarriage, if thats the part that you dislike

When I first saw Metalhawks jet mode I didn't like it either, looks kind of ugly and oversimplified. But then I saw how it looked in the cartoon on this forum and the design looks pretty faithful. How did you feel about the alt mode for Cyclonus though?

I'm quite impressed by the retool effort shown on metalhawk here, I also like Skyquake but everyone's tastes are subjective (I'm not a big fan of the attempt of animated Prowl for instance but I won't begrudge anyone who wants it).

Here's a way to think about Animated Prowl: He deliberately restyled his body to blend in, because Ninja.

So, Black Zarak is technically Legacy (if by way of Selects). And so...

TBH, I do miss the aesthetics of the original G1 Bots when a Jet looked exactly like a jet with no robot body hanging underneath. That said, the transformation back then was very simplified so such a thing could be achieved.

With all the articulation built into them today I can understand how it might be impossible or jut way too costly to incorporate it into the jet body. Fortunately I display all my transformers in Bot mode so it doesn't bother me as much, and if I did display them in alt mode I suppose a person could display them in a way that the underneath isn't seen.

That was really mainly the Seekers and Jetfire, and later on the Decepticon Targetmasters. And, if you were feeling particularly generous, the Aerialbot limbs.

Silverbolt was one of the worst offenders of "robot body underneath"

Cyclonus was also guite guilty of it:

And so, in point of fact, was Metalhawk.

For what it's worth, the Seekers are still reasonably good at hiding the robot-ness.

Itlooks as if this will be a quiet year for me in terms of Transformers collecting. The only things on this list I'm interested in are Armada Megatron, Dreadwing, and maybe Bludgeon if it turns out good. Has much been leaked about Wal-Mart or Amazon exclusives for this year?

Hasbros really going to try selling blitzwing again hahaha -though they have got quite good at polishing turds :/

Core I can ignore. Really doubting any version that hasbro does of armada megatron is going to be better than the original toy. Unfortunate choices for some of the package refreshes :( and seems to be a sudden drop off of prime characters and a lack of other universe transformers.

Deluxe:
Beachcomber maybe but cant see it beating the POTP version.
Shadowstriker maybe
Strongarm maybe
Detritus depends how good the mold is, if its siege easy pass
Devcon will have to see it but not much interest in him. Will be interesting to see what they do with him as a deluxe rules out scourge or metalhawk repaint

Voyager:
Nemesis Leo maybe
Dirge yep
Bludgeon will have to be something special, I'll likely go for super7s as I'm happy with my Baynus Bludgeons.

Leader:
Prime Dreadwing when on sale

This is pretty much my stance on this one, even more so after getting Cosmos and seeing him tower over BB. I know they all weren't the same height but I though he was closer to BB's height if maybe a head taller.

So for beachcomber to be DLX I'm worried it too will be too tall and possibly bulky to fit in with Bee as well as Seaspray. Since i already have POTP version I'm in no real hurry to replace it as it does fit in with those other minibots. And the one I want them to do next more than anyone else is Powerglide. Mainly so I know whether to get the Legends version or not.

Dunno Stateside but over here he is still plentiful at £40 at smyths and even a little bit cheaper at game £38, He wasnt shifting at full price and was reduced pretty quick after he came out (though TM2 megatron being available for £38 through amazon prior to release suggests leader price shouldnt be £50+ anyways). Like some of the previous package refreshes im sure legacy version will be on the shelves next to the new packaging.

I could be wrong, but I believe that is mostly in reference to Deluxes. At least in my area wave 2 voyagers were plentiful, even at Walmart, Jhiaxus is still shelfwarming. Wave 2 core was "blink and its gone", and Blitzwing, while not having a ton of shelf presence, was at least able to be obtained. I even saw one today at a Walmart.

Wave 2 deluxes I only ever saw at Target a couple of times (some fans never did). I just last week saw a single Crankcase, but never saw any other deluxe, or any Voyager, or Leader wave 3 at all.

I got my Legacy Breakdown and Scraphook today, which is pretty fun considering I only just ordered them Thursday night from Pulse.

Breakdown is breakdown, nothing really exciting. The best thing I did with him was throw him onto Menasor as a back calf. 3 of the 5 Mena-cons really did turn out pretty mediocre. The combiner itself is nice, but the latter 3 cons kinda made me like him less. I actually almost prefer him without the leg bots, and Dead End just does not look good on the arm like Dragstrip does. He's nice, and better than CW, but he's still a bit disappointing.

Scraphook is really awesome, I love his highly greebled scrappy design, and the colors in hand are ace. He is so much fun, and his truck mode is rad too. He is great, highlight of the wave so far for me. He also makes a cool leg

Okay there HAS to be a wave 5, I realize I've said this many times now but we've got "ROBO WLD RDR", Cheetor, Wheeljack, & Ramjet repacks, that Leader Optimus listing that's probably the "Holiday Prime in G1 colors" the designers just teased, and now a Bomb-Burst repack all unaccounted for in the 4 waves we know or maybe I'm just trying to cope with the fact that now I may actually have to spend $20+ just to get Bomb-Burst at all.

Other than that, all that's really changed here is that Shadow Striker got shifted back a wave in favor of Tarantulas getting repacked earlier, we know for sure that Axlegrease is the last Deluxe Junkion, and we know the order of the Voyagers and the Leader repacks.

Also according to JTPrime:
-Bludgeon is shortpacked because he "isn't the new mold of the case" (confirming the suspicion that Bludgeon is a Tarn retool, while also confirming that the Voyager Junkion is something new and not another SS86 Wreck-Gar retool)
-Shadow Striker's packaging is indeed supposed to say "Cyberverse Universe Shadow Striker"
-Medix (remember that leak?) isn't Selects, but JTPrime still doesn't know how he actually will be releasing

blackeyedprime wrote:Detritus depends how good the mold is, if its siege easy pass
If it helps, it seems all but certain at this point that Detritus will either use the Siege mold, or (probably more likely) the SS86/Buzzworthy earth mode retool of the Siege mold, seeing as how there's a Voyager Junkion in the same wave that may be filling "modular Junkion" duty for the wave and Wave 4 almost always contains at least one figure that's just a repaint or a new-head retool.

Munkky wrote:Has much been leaked about Wal-Mart or Amazon exclusives for this year?
-Amazon has zero leaks thus far, but the designers have expressed interest in doing a second wave of Wreckers and there were Fractyl and Diaclone Topspin rumors from last year that never panned out.
-Walmart has listings but most of them don't actually say the names of the characters, so all we know is that it has 4-5 currently-unnamed Deluxes, 1 currently-unnamed Deluxe repack, 1 currently-unnamed Voyager, and both G2 Grimlock and a currently-unnamed Leader.

The Voyager Junkion in wave 4 is interesting. I would think it would be another character from TF:TM, but then I'd think it would be in SS, unless it was slotted in L:E because SS was too full? On the other hand, if this is another made up Junkion/ weaponizer perhaps this is the "team leader", and much like the Stunticons, we will get the 5th and final member in wave 1 2024?

Nope. But he has a perfectly centered 5mm peg. And one of the designers hinted on Twitter in response to a leg mode picture that there was more to that than just speculation.

Mena-cons was a name I typed by mistake, but I liked it. You don't always have to type the official name, as seen with a certain Dinobot in this wave of figures.

Besides, the combined form ended up being a let down for me.

Thanks to JT Prime we have a breakdown of the Legacy Toys coming out for the rest of the year. This shows us the month they are meant for release, which characters are getting repacked and which ones are getting shortpacked. For instance, we see here that Bludgeon will be shortpacked. And we now see that Axelgraese is indeed the upcoming deluxe car Junkion we've seen on the poster.

This is not spread bad news, but otherwise to give you a heads up as to which toy you should probably preorder instead of waiting to find in stores, since online places like BBTS or Hasbro Pulse may get solid cases instead of the assortment cases shown below, which end up at Walmart and Target.

Also PR means package refresh, these are toys from previous lines that are rereleased in this line.

On the other hand, if this is another made up Junkion/ weaponizer perhaps this is the "team leader", and much like the Stunticons, we will get the 5th and final member in wave 1 2024?

I think this will be a bigger junkion weaponizer to go with the rest of this year's gimmick

So is Skar the mini-bat that merges with Double Dealer? If so, it better come with some accessories for it to run the same price as Rumble. He at least included his pile drivers.

Also, Core Class Sludge and Slag are listed, but not showing PR after them. They've already been released. Or are these in G2 colors?

Update: Never mind. PR means package refresh of figures from OTHER LINES. I was thinking OTHER WAVES of SAME LINE. My bad.

Beachcomber, Bludgeon and Armada Megatron will most likely be purchases.

Hopefully they do Megatron right. Both Hotshot and Starscream have been only adequate so far.

And "Mena-cons?" You mean Stunticons? Their official name?

Nope. But he has a perfectly centered 5mm peg. And one of the designers hinted on Twitter in response to a leg mode picture that there was more to that than just speculation.
Hmm I'm sure those adept at kitbashing can make it work. Looks pretty good. A junkion combiner would have been a good idea.
Mena-cons was a name I typed by mistake, but I liked it. You don't always have to type the official name, as seen with a certain Dinobot in this wave of figures.
Do you mean Slag?

You can call them whatever you like, I was just a little confused, because I don't think they were referred to as Stunticons even on official packaging, now that I think about it.

As for the combined form, I'm also a bit disappointed, but I don't blame anyone else. I saw photos and reviews and still bought them. But they do look better separate than combined.

No. Skar is the sixth Dinobot needed to finish the Core class Dinobot combiner.

So here's the things that appeal to me from this leak:
Axelgreese, Armada Megs, Shadowstriker, Strongarm, voyager Junkion, and maybe Dreadwing (but I still think I mostly want that mold as G1 Skyquake)

I initially had Skar on my list but then I stopped to think about it. I had at first assumed this was a remake of Doubledealer's bat Powermaster in the vein of SS Rumble (Blue), but then I noticed that we don't have a listing for our last Dinobot, and Skar has also been used as a name for a Dynobot in IDW, however briefly. So that leads me to believe that Skar is the ankylosaurus dinobot for Volcanicus. Thus the distribution would be:
W1: Slug, Sludge
W2: Grimlock
W3: Swoop, Skar
W4: Snarl

And of course as this list shows we've got rereleases of figures in later waves so:
Wave 1: 3x Slug, 3 x Sludge
wave 2: 2x Grimlock
wave 3: 2x Skar, 2x Swoop, 2x Grimlock
Wave 4: 2x Snarl, 2x Sludge, 2x Slug

They're going to make sure get Slug and Sludge if you missed them the first time around. Waves 3 and 4 will be dominated by Dinobots.

Really wondering when we're going to see info about Dinoking.

You're both correct technically. The Dynobot Skar is a simple name reuse from the IDW comics (based on Dinobot names starting with "S"), but he was nothing more than a tragic plot device  He'll be the Ankylosaurus of this new group, if the Dinoking setup still holds true.

And he's coming a lot sooner than expected. Curiously Slug and Sludge are getting re-releases, I hope they address Sludge's Dino head detailing with that.

I'm out of the loop, what's wrong with Sludge's head?

It's hard to notice, but the detailing on the snout is asymmetric, the measurements for each half were slightly off when the mold was cut it seems.

If you're fine with just the TR,it's all right. But the new voyager is much more G1 accurate. Plus if you love Cyclonus's transformation, we get the same magic here.

For me, I want them all.

Too bad I slept on Botcon Metalhawk all those years because he's now definitely nope'd priced.
As for the OG G1, it's just a pipe dream. Even if I'd be a millionaire, finding one that is 100% complete is a near impossibility.

I recently got the Movie Advanced AoE Hound, Special Army Camo version. I remember how great of a mold that toy is and that deco is just perfect. Far superior to the original release.

Now before anyone tell me I'm in the wrong thread, here's the Wreck N Rule Legacy Bulkhead.

Same overall proportions. Same overall looks. Same colors. Same love for weapons.

Image

And the exact same vehicle mode.

Image

Surprisingly, Bulkhead is bigger than Hound.

Image

Same vehicle, same deco, same love for weapons.

So, yeah. For me, Legacy Bulkhead have absolutely nothing to do with the Prime Universe. He's the "geewunification" of AoE Hound. Those two are the same character in two different universes. It's just perfect!

Hoping they rerun Dead End, I still need him and Breakdown.

Detritus? I wonder if Earthmode Hound redeco or Siege? I hope the latter so I can use Earth Hound and have some variation.

Wonder what Devcon will look like.

Nemesis Destron wrote:I'm very much content with TR Metalhawk...anybody else? >:oP :VEHI:

Same, mostly. I prefer the brighter yellow on this one for sure to the dark gold, and I think I just overall prefer his spaceship mode to the F15, even though an earth mode fits more for what I want to do with him. I am also not a fan of how much light grey is peeking through and how narrow the cockpit is. But I am planning on getting him in and I expect I will like it a lot in person.
