It gives us that nice blurb we already saw, adding some fiction to the line (which Takara has since illustrated as well), the burn rubber line is a nice touch. The description shows that this will be the SS86 Hot Rod we already got but in toy colours. Regardless of the deco, it will at least help those who did not get the original SS86 toy since despite the seemingly high price for a smaller bot, the toy sold out at retail and was highly rated by fans.
Universes collide! Transformers: Legacy brings together fan-favorite characters from across the Transformers multiverse. Figures feature deco inspired by their universe with an updated Generations design. In honor of the almost 40-year legacy of Transformers entertainment, the fandoms come together from across the Transformers multiverse, all in one toy line. The race is on! Bots from across the multiverse have gathered on Velocitron to participate in the Speedia 500, a planet-wide race to determine its next leader. Hot Rod joins the Speedia 500 to show how fast he can burn rubber. Transformers and all related characters are trademarks of Hasbro.

Wait... did we know we were getting repaint of Dragstrip? Or is this the leaked "Shadow Striker"?
Interesting its out without any pics before hand.

That's an interesting way to release the G2 Stunticon decoes. Kind of clever, but did it really warrant creating a new character/name trademark instead of just calling it "Shadow Dragstrip?"

Jelze Bunnycat wrote:"Shadowstrip"... Well played Hasbro. Making him not G2 Drag Strip, so no inherent obligation to finish off the team.
I don't follow. Is there a difference between G2 dragstrip and shadowstrip? I don,t see how those are different characters.

Yes it's a fun surprise in that sense but a letdown that it isn't the shadowstriker we had in a listing. And yes, this would indeed be that shadowstriker since it was confirmed that the next wave would only have 2 new bots and be padded with repacks. The part that makes no sense though is that Cosmos is not one of those getting repacked.

That way they avoid the obligation of releasing the rest of the team in G2 colors: new character that homages the deco, so he can be a mere substitute

Interesting... thanks.
At least its one less figure I need to get. Already have Drag Strip, and don't need a G2 repaint that may or may to get a complete team as cool as the black, gold and blue is.

As for the Shadow Striker-Shadowstrip situation, sad reminder that the listing we got technically didn't actually say Shadow Striker: It's just that between that and JTPrime referring to it as "Shadow Stri" based off of more extensive info they had (I could be misremembering that part, but I think I remember that being the case), everyone autofilled the full name as Shadow Striker because there was no other existing name it could be. So yes, no Shadow Striker.
I cannot decide whether I actually like Shadowstrip here, I'm gonna have to do some thinking on this one. It's either gonna be my first Legacy Stunticon purchase or another pass. This is probably a part of why Crasher didn't use the Dragstrip mold I guess?
EDIT: Also for anyone on the fence about Shadowstrip specifically for the reasoning of "what if they don't do a full G2 Menasor and just make Dragstrip", JTPrime did find a listing for a Legacy "Deluxe E Robo WLD Ridr" and up until this instance had no clue what it could be, so make of that what you will.

Nice to have G2 Drag Strip though. So I guess G2 Motormaster will either be the Commander-class for this line, or a Selects release, and they won't be doing a box set. I'm not too surprised that it turned out not to be Shadow Striker, since we haven't had a new Side Burn or anything resembling him. It's not like with our expectation of Armada Blurr where we were seeing Unicron Trilogy signs everywhere and knew we were getting a suitable base mold (Pointblank).
As for Hot Rod... Well, good for people who missed out on the mold and don't want to pay $90 or whatever he's going for. But I do seriously wish Hasbro get the smeg over their block about doing him in magenta already. It's been 36 smegging years, damnit. Although by that same token I'm not surprised they once again didn't do it. Only other possibility besides toy colors that I would have expected was a Cybertron Hot Shot homage.

Hotrods still going to be crazy priced if it's £33 for a voyager deluxe but seeing as they havent got his colors right yet the toy color version might work for me (and if they paint his roof the right color -they finally got clampdowns lambo panels paint matching so who knows)

I was personally hoping for an IDW Rodimus (considering IDW Blurr exists) or a SG Hot Rod, but it does seem like even the people who are saying they might get the Toy Colors one would still rather have the magenta anyway, magenta seems like it would have been a safer bet than what they're going with.Cyber Bishop wrote:Nemesis Primal wrote:Toy Colors Hot Rod? People weren't expecting Universe Shadow Striker, they were expecting a Generations version of the much-more-well-known Cyberverse Shadow Striker as presumably an Elita-1 repaint/remold.ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:I'm not too surprised that it turned out not to be Shadow Striker, since we haven't had a new Side Burn or anything resembling him. Yeah, that's what makes me interested to see how they'll go about it. I still prefer the toy colours over the 'toon colours anyway but I'm still hoping they lean more into it to really make it more worthwhile than that one Netflix Prime set that vaguely had the same colours as the toy and nothing else.

Er, "Shadowstrip" and "Decepticon", surely?
Anyway, it's nice that they're (hopefully) giving (all?) the G2 versions new names, so we can either imagine they're upgraded forms of the same characters (à la Soundblaster and Twincast) or new characters in their own right (à la Soundblaster again).
This latest version of G2 Dragstrip reminds me of the old "John Player Special" version of the Tyrrell P34 car, which Dragstrip was based upon.

Going to have to see Hot Rod first and hope the blurb for it is just wrong (since toys colors are more rust orange than true red). The only major difference between SS86 Hot Rod and G1 toy Hot Rod would be orange legs, lots of tampographs and maybe the flame designs. Not sure if that's enough to warrant a rebuy. It's especially frustrating knowing SS86 Hot Rod was supposed to be magenta but got nixed by higher ups at Hasbro, this was probably its last chance of happening. Maybe Target will finally do it in the Buzzworthy line like they did Kup and Cliffjumper.

I wish Shadowstrip had been Cyberverse Shadow Striker instead using a different mold, or that he had gotten a new head at least, but that paint scheme is super nice, and I think I'll get him solely for that reason, plus it's a good mold.

One of my local Walmarts hasn't even put tags out yet. As of last Saturday they had a few Haulers on the overhead shelf and that was it, the pegs and lower shelves were full of other stuff.

In my area, everything except Cosmos is starting to shelf-warm, INCLUDING Clampdown. I've been to 3 Walmarts in two days and they all had at least 1 Clampdown and plenty of the others. Of course, this is one are, but they were definitely flying the first few cases. Now the rabid have all theirs and it's regular product.

I really think we are using the "shelf-warm" term too loosely to the point where it loses meaning. If Clampdown, which has been on shelves for barely a month, is considered a shelfwarmer, then what do we call the Studio Series Blurrs and Kups from last year that I still see on shelves?

No, I agree....I use the term as familiar, but not to kill the meaning of it. I don't think any of them are actual shelf warmers just yet. The market is starting to cool, lets say. But in the case of Clampdown, he was going right along with Cosmos. Now I can walk in dry and see him.

Well, then they're both shelf-warmers, just with possibly slightly different reasons for the state they are viewed as being in.

I think the point is we need a new term for "figures that don't sell as fast as their case mates" vs. "figures that don't sell, period."

Arguably, the "don't sell at all" belief might not be accurate. Perhaps both "groups" of toys we've just discussed differ only by the length of time warming the shelves? I suppose one way would be to (hypothetically) see which ones were sold (at a discounted price?) to customers or a discount chain of shops (like the ones that sell liquidation stock, etc)?
Perhaps "bargain bucket-fodder"?

It's cool, I do like following your analysis. We see the speed at which some fly off the shelves and as there is more supply, we see which toys end up having met that immediate demand vs the ones that still don't. And from what we see in that pic of New Zealand, Clampdown will eventually stay on the shelves as much as any other toy since it will be repacked in the next wave.

They arent missing, they just arent placed on the alt mode since that would be really easy to either fall off or get stolen due to the open window.

The open window as nothing to do with that. Remember the Prowl family, the Red Alerts, and ER Ratchet. All had their "cherries" on top removed and segregated among the weapons. That is, if I remember correctly.

Yeah, but they were all packaged in robot mode so you wouldn't see it. That's why this is the only release where one would think it's missing from looking at the toy.

Yeah, exactly that.
Also, it's a pretty damn genius move to separate those lights. It keep production costs of the repaints way down. The downside is that it's one more loose part that can be missing. I predict some of those lights will sell for 50$ on eBay 20 years from now.
