My question about it would always be why Hasbro isn't seemingly doing anything about it. Correct me if I'm wrong but they could always go after the youtube videos via copyright strikes/ demonetisation. Yet they never do anything, almost like corporate hasbro don't care, even if some within the ranks do.

A point that stand is that too often, the video review can only be INCOMPLETE because of the lack of instructions and even some accessories in some cases.
So, I cannot consider these as "reviews" but I can consider them as LEAKS. Instead of rumors and pictures that get leaked, it's the toy itself.

So if Hasbro would be consistent to prevent the "thefts", they should also go after ALL kinds of leakers. But we all know that Hasbro is too smart to do that because leakers are the "secret marketing team" that works for free.
:-B

That's been my belief for a while

I think Hasbro employees are sincere in their complaints about leaks during the official reveal livestreams. Hasbro doesn't need a "secret marketing team" when they have an actual marketing team. There are other industries that are incredibly protective of leaks, like the movie and game industries, but the knowledge is rigidly protected by NDAs and more compartmentalization of the information. Deals on external IP often extend these requirements throughout the production chain with potential penalties, so there can be explicit financial incentives to control the reveals.

Lego historically has been much better than other toy companies at keeping things under wraps, but their production process is more tightly managed than the big companies. The other major tools that Lego used in the past were things like watermarking catalogs and punishing media partners who published materials, but they have recently permitted media partners to cover leaks more openly, probably in part in response to the rise of YouTubers and others who get the info out there anyway. As for copyright / demonetization, I'm not a lawyer but I don't think they could. To my knowledge, physical objects don't have image rights, the media does. So if a Hasbro marketing video leaked, they could take that down, but if someone unaffiliated shoots their own video, that's the property of the person who filmed it. Box art images could be protected, but it would be difficult and counterproductive for Hasbro to take action against some people for their use and not others after they're released.

I'm an Occam's Razor guy, and in this case I think there's a very simple explanation: it takes a lot of effort and expense to limit leaks, and toy companies have limited tools available. If Hasbro could easily shut them down, they would, but their legal, marketing, and production teams have other priorities.

I know why people call PvP a thief whenever he posts but I don't know why we need to have this debate every time in response.

I wouldn't be so sure regarding copyright, after all they did managed to successfully manage to derail the not-unicron 3rd party figure that was revealed, like a couple of days after, HasLab Unicron was launched (though the theory there was that they wanted to make an example of them because of the timing,as that same toy eventually did get released, just later then planned).

As to why the debate, who knows? Especially after people are told time and time again to drop it.

However, hopefully this new format can see the end of it.

I thought about that Unicron case too. I never watched the video so I have no idea what the infringing material could have been. I don't think video images of an unlicensed toy based on protected IP, but in any event, I think it's a special case that's not a clean precedent for unreleased Hasbro toys. Hasbro could certainly file a complaint, but would it be upheld? Would it obligate them to go after all toy reviewers or risk being accused of not consistently enforcing copyright, which has broader legal implications? It's not what they can do, it's what they can do without prohibite effort and cost. Certainly going after YTers at all could have a potentially chilling effect on the rest of the community, even those who play by the rules. There are many types of costs to consider.

Ip law seems to be vague and complicated, it's come up a lot on my other hobby, as well as discussions of its impact on the community (in that case youtube videos were removed and a series on there stopped out of fear of reprisals)

I absolutely love this Perceptor figure. The Titans Return one was ok, but left me wanting for a better one. As one of my main top fav characters, its important to me to have a great Perceptor and this is it. Of course I wish it had forearm covers and a cover on his back, but Im sure a kit will be made.

Also someone out there please put out a kit for 86' Kup. I would really like a new head with a better face sculpt. Preferably an IDW cygar one.

Agreed on all of this

Hopefully some kits surface with IDW heads for Kup, Perceptor, and Kingdom Cyclonus, and their respective weapons

I appreciate that he has his original alt mode, and at the same time, this is a reminder as to why a vehicle mode has been used in the past... "Playing" with a microscope that doesn't really work or do anything isn't exactly the most exciting feature.

While it probably doesn't need to work, I don't think it would have been that expensive to make it work as a person can buy relatively cheap microscope set in the toy section as it is for $30-40. So to add a couple lenses in his scope couldn't have cost more than $4 at most.

That said, how many people plan to ever use it as a functional microscope anyways? lol

Thank you, yes, let's move on.

That pic with Hot Rod is very telling of the current reality where size is no longer as relevant in the class distinction, its all about parts count/complexity now.

It always has been. Otherwise Armada Tidal Wave, Animated Lockdown and Battle Blade Bumblebee would be a Class higher.

Yeah, scale did mess things up. Originally they were catered to packaging size it looks like, but now...

The 86 movie Autobots were always somewhat larger than the average 84-85 Autobot, there's nothing wrong with the scale.

Messed things up as in going from "How big should he be to fit in the box" to "it costs this much to make him this correct size, what price point should we put him in".

Yeah, my point is while other characters race off as a vehicle, jet, or animal, as part of almost any scenario a kid could make up, a microscope in general isn't that fun to play with.
On top of that, I'll add it's not exactly some sweet display piece.

Then maybe his videos need to not be posted anymore here, oh wait I remember who the site owner is, never mind it is all about the page clicks for the forums and what goes into his pocketbooks and his collection regardless the right or wrong of the situation (I was site admin for 7 years and know all kinds of dirty secrets and one is the reason I stepped away).

That's the Platinum Edition repaint of the Thrilling Thirty figure, the metallic paint makes it look dark instead of shiny in these photos.

If the products are indeed stolen factory samples that PrimeVsPrime posts, or other Youtubers, it's not really our place to make judgements on it. Ultimately, it just impacts Seibertron.com and myself as it's a lost revenue opportunity for Seibertron.com (because we didn't get to post pictures of something first). If Hasbro wants to make it an issue publicly and/or stop guys like PrimeVsPrime from getting factory samples, then it's a totally different ball game. Factory leaks and movie spoilers are fair game to post on. It's up to the companies involved to prevent those things from happening.

Preceptor looks like a nice clean, classic design and Blaster looks top notch, easily one of the nicest upcoming figs. Hes not a character Im attached to or know much about (same with Percy) so we'll have to see what happens

That sweet purple throne that comes with screamy star however.. :-?

If you really like the look of Blaster and Perceptor, I'd recommend getting them.
Who knows when we'll get another version of either, especially with these stylings...
I'm guessing the next incarnations of any of these characters we've received in the last couple years will have substantially different designs; whether it's due to some play gimmick, or just as an intentional change.

Conversely, you could have gotten a Voyager Blaster with NO cassette whatsoever. I agree the translucent plastic isn't 'ideal', but I don't mind it either. Plus, there's always the chance for an opaque reprint somewhere down the line. It's not like I have a choice - if I want the Blaster (I do, desperately), then I'm getting the Eject - translucency and all.

It wasn't a complaint, just a thought. I'm getting Blaster no matter what.
Really, Eject is just a tiny bonus, and never played into whether or not I'd get this figure.
Similar to my extreme dislike of Wheelie and Daniel; although with those two, I found them a complete waste (which is why they're still in the packaging).
But I'll take whatever pack-in's are included with future Dinobots, just because they're that good.

In terms of Scourge vs Sweep, I'd say keep Scourge.
I don't mind the color variation of Sweep at all, but in my opinion Scourge looks better.
It's more Blue-Violet than just a plain Blue, and I dig it. He's just a less "little kid" looking imo.
Not to mention, he visually fits in better with Galvatron and Cyclonus.

Well, going by just those pics, Sweep is definitely the most accurate colour for Scourge. Also I just finished watching The Burden Hardest to Bear and Ghost in the Machine, I agree completely with ur day and night thing. Another reason its hard to decide. That is pretty much the way I was leaning before and why I came here to ask others opinions. Thanks everyone.

But neither fits the bill perfectly. And lighting really effects photography.

And, just looking at the character model makes me wish he had a few more paint apps.

I really think the inclusion of Eject was probably a late decision. Two things should stand out when looking at the art.

First there's no Eject shown, not even in his chest. Second he gun is blue and silver (with some black) like many of the other energon weapons instead of just black. I think at some point they decided to include Eject and make him the Energon accessory instead of his gun.

Could you share a pic next time you go?
Assuming it's still there, yeah. ;)^

Something similar is happening at my local Walmart: more than usual Slugs and Grindors on the shelves, to the point a good portion is relocated to the "eye-catcher" aisle at the beginning of the toy section. And that's when they already had a "featured" endcap section before the Transformers aisle.

Him Grimlock strong.

On the matter of Coronation Starscream and Perceptor...
I'm honestly tempted more by Screamer. I don't already have an Earthrise Starscream so he wouldn't be redundant, and the throne looks nice. Meanwhile, I do already have Titans Return Perceptor and am fairly happy with him.

Do we have confirmation yet about whether this Perceptor's scope works?

Not as of yet I'm afraid.

My local targets are usually pretty well stocked but last time I went there about a week ago they had no actual Hasbro TFs. Just some super 7, and some of those new statues. I hope they got something for black Friday or it would have been very disappointing.

This is incredible. Does anyone else have something like this in their targets?

Not to this extent... But within the first two weeks of this month my Target had 8-9 Grindors, and 6 Slags...
I thought that was a whole lot of leader class figures...

That endcap is seriously ridiculous. I don't understand how that happens.
Especially when what I mentioned was the first time I ever saw Slag.

Grinder lingering I can see. Slag is a bit more surprising; I guess perhaps it's down to him not being as big a name as Grimlock? I hope he does start shifting - though into the hands of real consumers, not the damn scalpers. If Slag is a bad seller that'll jeopardize the other three.

...By the way, am I the only one planning to double-dip on these Dinobots for the sake of doing G2 customs?

I have two Grimlocks, but I didn't buy him for that...it's for my son. But it's not a terrible idea...

I'm not too worried about the other 3 Dinobots getting made... It will happen, just not as soon as I'd like!!

I've double-dipped on the Dinobots... I plan to keep a set sealed.
And who knows, I may sell them down the road. Doubtful, but I won't say it could never happen.

I told someone else from the boards that I could see Hastak making G2 versions for the Selects line.

Got my Sweeps in the mail today. I opened up one, and one of the wing/shell pieces was so warped in the package that I couldn't get the little nacelle part to stay attached. I transformed him and slotted that part back in, and I'm going to keep him in alt mode for a while in the hopes that helps set the plastic right. I think it'll be fine in the end, it's probably just like Rodimus's trailer that way.

Not that anyone should have been worried, but my second Sweep didn't have any similar issues with warped plastic.

I'm hoping :HASBRO: / :TAKARATOMY: is considering the Hot Rod mold for a nice Sideburn and release him in the Selects line.... . :VEHI:

I would rather see a recreation of the real Sideburn mold than another Hot Rod redeco.
