In Seibertron's words:
Original wave has a less translucent orange blade (73461) while second release has a much more translucent blade (80171). Those codes are the stamped codes found on back of box.
Take a look at your own Autobot leader, and let us know which version you have! Are you more interested in either of the two variants? Is this enough to make you double-dip? Join the conversation in the Energon Pub, and share your thoughts.

The pre-order listing states Thundercracker will be available from their site some time in July (between one and two months from now), and is listed at $29.99 - the same price as Toys R Us charges (or was charging, prior to the slowly-creeping clearance discounts) - it's interesting to note, though, that he is still listed on Entertainment Earth as a "Toys R Us Exclusive". If you want that extra bit of security over hunting for him in stores, why not give the listing a look?
Are you still looking for Thundercracker? Or if you've found him, what do you think of the figure? Let us know your thoughts by posting in the Energon Pub forums!

Actually, I think the less transparent version is more accurate

I mean... in the movie, they glow, and if the light catches it right, clear plastic looks like it's glowing. So I'm going with the clear variant for 'accuracy' (if I cared about it enough, that is).

Nice surprise, but not totally shocking. Entertainment Earth has/had some sort of relationship with TRU as in years past they've hosted their exclusives at the EE booth at SDCC ahead of their American releases.

I actually prefer the mouthplated face (if there isn't a face-changing option) but I'm with you on the brighter colors. That won't be enough for me to pick up Studio Series Optimus Prime, though. It really needs better paint detail overall. There are so few flames on the whole figure compared to past iterations, they don't include the nice orange to red fade on the red parts of the truck, and they didn't even paint the side pieces on the outsides of the windshield "pectorals" the right color. They should be blue, not red! For a $30 USD price tag and a smaller than average voyager sized figure, I expect a LOT more effort in the deco department. It's a shame too, because the transformation looks interesting and the sculpt is pretty good overall.

Blackout is the leader sized figure we've wanted for 11 years. He looks great in robot mode, the paint and detailing is well done. The sculpting is excellent, especially the face. He's nice and bulky, like he should be. The helicopter alt-mode is impressively big. It's a huge freaking toy for a Transformer that isn't a city or other base of operations. I do have some nitpicks, though. It's unfortunate that he's just a little bit "partsformer" with the tail piece having to be unpegged from the back of the helicopter and put onto Blackout's arm, but I don't really see a better way of doing that. It's also a shame that the back half of the helicopter is so hollow from the bottom. I can understand a little to hide Scorponok in there, but is a bigger gap than it needs to me. Speaking of Scorponok, he looks pretty great too. He's nicely scaled, well painted, and has just enough articulation for a mini-figure. It's too bad he doesn't transform, but then again, he never actually did in the movies. Even his Deluxe and Legends/Legion toys from 11 years ago just kind of stood up awkwardly. Perhaps the biggest issue with Blackout is that a lot of the outer shell of the helicopter is made out of panels that don't want to line up and with one another and tab together securely. The plastic seems to be a bit too soft and the tolerances aren't quite up to the task of achieving what was originally designed. Still, Blackout is a must have for anyone's movie collection, despite its flaws.
Grimlock is pretty amazing. We've had a LOT of Grimlocks of all shapes and sizes since Age of Extinction, but this is the first one so far to get the colors COMPLETELY RIGHT! He's a nice dark gray with green "patina" dry-brushing for a very accurate on-screen look in both robot and T-Rex mode. Now, do the rest of the movie Dinobots like this, Hasbro! Please! I found the Transformation to be interesting and not overly confusing or complex. Neither mode is completely without kibble, but what the engineers did to minimize it is truly admirable. I've noticed some people complaining about not every flap or piece in dino mode securely snapping into place. They honestly don't need to, however. Every piece that is unsecured stays in place by friction alone. Even that rubbery flap under the tail holds up well. You can curve the sides upward to give the tail a more natural contour on the bottom, and it stays in place without much effort. Even the fake T-rex head halves at the thickest part of the tail aren't too distracting. In robot mode, Grimlock stands nice and tall over ALL of the others, though, of course, he should be MUCH MUCH taller to be truly screen accurate. The scaling as is still works very well. There's some kibble too in robot mode, most noticeably the dino jaw and little T-Rex arms just having out on the back of Grimlock's left upper arm, but again, they blend well enough, thanks mostly to the paint job. Again, this Grimlock is the one to have for your movie collection. Any other version doesn't even come close.
This brings me to a question for everyone. It seems that Wave 2 will not have any new Leader Class figures. Maybe it'll just be repacks of Grimlock and Blackout for now, or maybe they'll be announced a little later, coming directly after Megatron and Brawl in numeric sequence. At any rate, what can Hasbro and Takara do for future Leader Class characters for the Studio Series line? A redeco of Blackout as Grindor would be obvious, but then what? A new Jetfire mold? Slash? Slug? Strafe? Is there anyone else that needs to be that big compared to most of the rest of the cast? Will we get any more smaller characters, like Scorponok or even smaller? We gotta have the Arcee sisters at some point, as well as Frezny, Ravage, Wheelie, Brains, Laserbeak, and Squeaks. Maybe they'll be little bonus figures that come with other larger characters down the line. Or maybe a bunch of them will be sold together in a special multi-pack? The Studio Series has me really excited again for movie figures. I really hope Hasbro and Takara can keep this up for a while so we can fill out the Transformers casts for the first five movies without any big omissions.

I can't find a stamped code on the back of my Prime's box but there's one of the bottom but it says 80201.

Looks good. Starscream still looks sufficiently bigger and bulkier than that Prime to make it work. I had a look on eBay but the only official ones are well over £100. Though I see what is likely a KO from China for £21.
Also a UK seller is selling the 'mechtech' trailer for about £20.

Here's a better picture, with Starscream's legs fully extended. He is still quite a bit taller than Optimus Prime.

I'm sort of up and down about him. Some things are unbelievable, others are irritating.
First off, he looks amazing in both modes.
In bot mode at first I thought his articulation was limited, but after playing around I could see he's capable of many fun poses. I'm not crazy about the mace hand, but it's growing on me. And I hate one-piece groin plates, but it actually didn't get in the way too much.
Rex mode is a little more limited. The legs can be sort of static, and the head is disappointing. No neck swivel, hinge at the head, and only the lower jaw moves with a one notch hinge. And most annoyingly, his back skirt piece makes up the bottom of the tail, which does not secure at all. It's just friction, and (on my copy anyways) it isn't strong enough to stay together and flops down.
Strangely even with his limitations, I really like him. I'll repeat that he looks phenomenal, and is worlds above previous Bay Grims. If you're already a fan of the concept, you'll probably be happy with him.

I joked earlier that I'd pick up Studio Series Optimus Prime if you gave me $30, but I went ahead and bought him anyway tonight during a Target run after work. My curiosity was piqued with a few online video reviews. Plus, I wanted to get his diorama since I'm collecting all the others. I don't know if I'll keep this version of Optimus, but it's fun so far. The transformation was unique, and I was able to figure out most of it on my own. The positioning of the fists when forming the nose of the truck cab tripped me up for quite a bit. There's only one way they can go to let everything snap together tightly. I still have the same problems with the figure aesthetically, though. The colors aren't quite right, the paint apps are too sparse and not screen accurate in some cases, and the chest is just disappointing. The sword accessories are quite nicely done. I got the "more transparent" version, I believe. Here's a comparison with Movie Advanced Revenge Optimus Prime.

I ordered me the KO of the Revenge figure as I'd like to see it person (if it's a good KO like some others I've purchased in past).
The SS sure does have the better feet. Guess that was one transformation from the RotF Leader mold they couldn't downscale properly for that Voyager mold. Shoulder pads too look better on the SS figure. But that chest on the Revenge is definitely more accurate with the silver visor bits above it which the SS doesn't have (well it sorta does but they're very short and don't stick out at all so are almost invisible) but SS has better stomach area, more detailed too. Also Revenge wins the truck mode and it's smokestacks. I may end up keeping both figures if I like the Revenge KO. I'm keeping my custom AoE and TLK Voyagers anyways. I don't actually like owning multiple figures of the same character but I do love movie Prime (and Bee) so I guess I ignore the rule there.

That's a cool lil squadron you're making. I haven't even seen either figure yet. I did look for Nitro during TLK but anything past Wave 1 was a pain in the butt to find so skipped it. I would buy Thundercracker seeing as it's part of the SS line I'm currently collecting but again not a figure I expect to easily find here especially with Toys R Us having closed down a few months ago. There's SS figures I have higher priority at the moment but if I can find TC and at an affordable price I'll get one.

Yeah they're not massively hidden in truck mode are they? Is not too bad but sure would be less visible with a trailer attached and they're molded to have a port for one. Has anyone with the mechtech trailer tried attaching it yet?

I know they don't quite match the other red and blue parts but layout-wise? Painted some red on the black piece to complete the window frames, and making the outside parts blue like they should be, makes the chest look less wide. Will do again at some point when I get more & better paint. And yup, flames will be added by Toyhax when they've done the stickers.
Oddly the dark metallic blue paint I put on the outer parts of the chest pretty much matches the blue used on those lower bits of the stomach area which I didn't paint.

Carnivius_Prime wrote:Do those truck panel bits on the forearms of the Revenge slide up there? They're down on his right (our left) arm and mostly up on the other arm.
Yeah, those arm panels do slide up giving the fists more exposure in robot mode. They tend to slip down rather easily, though. It also doesn't help that the blue shoulder panels offer create clearance issues with the arm panels too. On my figure, the panel on the left arm pops off a LOT. I need to try coating the nub with some floor polish to get a tighter fit.
Your custom paint work looks good so far. Painting the sides of the chest the proper blue really helps make that are look less stretched out and flat. Unfortunately, paint can't really help the sun visor problem on that mold.

Thanks. Yeah not sure what to do about visors. The only way to have them physically there would be a couple seperate pieces of some material, coloured silver and find some way to attach them (probably clipping them to the inner corners of the red window frames and tilted diagonally) and then would obviously remove them for transformation (not a big deal since my bots spend most of their time in robot mode). Will have a look in my junker box later when I have time and see if there's anything suitable I can use.
Really cannot wait for Toyhax stickers for this guy. I cannot paint those darn missing flames myself. I really believe this is a fine figure of Prime if it was just coloured properly! I don't get why Hasbro keep skimping on the deco for the MAIN GUY! His AoE Evasion figure has barely any correct colour layout. His TLK voyager too was lacking in paint for the flames and such. Both of those I had to fix myself with paint and Toyhax stickers...
EDIT:
Found this parts which apparently come from the arms of a 2010 G1 Legends Starscream. I could slice them down, paint them silver and wondering if I could put tiny little magnets to attach the circular parts to the pins in the chest's black joint piece thingy. Somehow try to figure a way so they partially overlap the windows rather than sit behind. It's an idea anyways. If it don't work I'll think up something else. You get the idea anyways.
I'm getting the urge for another figure. Still can't really go for Grimlock or Blackout. Cost of those figures plus cost of larger shelves to display those figures. Might go for Stinger, I've really warmed to his look in the photos.

Another one that looks good. But again, flaws.
The robot mode would be damn near perfect if it weren't for those arms. They're so weird. The hands with no wrist swivel, and just the odd and awkward combination of joints make it difficult to make virtually any natural looking poses. But seriously, everything else is great.
Copter mode is huge! And panels lining up isn't as much of a pain as you'd think. However, he ain't pretty upside down. Which I actually already knew about, but even the rear end of the copter is open an empty. Which is pretty lame. But otherwise it's pretty impressive.
Between him and Grim though, I gotta give the win to the dino. Blackout's arms... can be forgiven, but they do suck

Here's some more food for thought. If we are indeed getting a "KSI Boss" figure as rumored down the line, will it be a new mold, or perhaps an extensive retool of The Last Knight Nitro Zeus?
Posted by Rodimus Prime on April 29th, 2018 @ 3:09am CDT
Yes, and it's almost perfect. Scale wise, the trailer is perfect for the tractor. They're the same width, and the trailer doesn't seem too short, which was my main concern. It also attaches at the right distance, unlike the deluxe Prime, which had way too much room between the cab and the trailer. The only problem is that the fifth wheel (where the trailer hooks up to the tractor) is too high. So that tilts the trailer up towards the front and if you display it facing sideways, it looks bad. If the feet were removed, it would be the perfect height. But the hinges have to be removed in order to do that.Carnivius_Prime wrote:Has anyone with the mechtech trailer tried attaching it yet?
BTW, have all the figures been announced yet? I would love to finally get a leader class DoTM Megatron and Shockwave, as well as a leader class AoE Galvatron.

We thought we new everything coming out, but with Bee movie (TF6) being pushed back to December seems to have caused them to make several changes to the leaked list we got (this was confirmed at Toy Fair by Warden who admitted they had to scramble to change the lineup). I wont bother listing waves because they've probably changed, but here are the figures we know (and think we know) we're getting after wave 1, through to wave 4 and maybe even wave 5.
Deluxe-
-TF6 VW Bumblebee
-TF1 Jazz
-TF4 Lockdown
-TF4 "KSI Sentry"
-TF? "Raider"
-TF? "Unknown Hero"
Voyager-
-TF2 Megatron
-TF1 Brawl
-TF1 Ironhide
-TF2 Starscream
-TF1 Bonecrusher
-TF? Optimus Prime
No rumored new Leaders yet, though a leaked Japanese list did show two unnamed leaders. We can probably bet on a modern Bumblebee somewhere and more TF6 figures around wave 4 to go with VW Bee. There's probably at least one more exclusive as well.

Rodimus Prime wrote:Yes, and it's almost perfect.
Thanks for checking. I may still buy the trailer and try figure a way to have it all level out nicely.

I don't see those characters getting leader figures as that would be far too large for the Studio scale. Their voyager figures are already suitable scale for the most part. New attempts at those would be welcome but the current figures are all pretty decent (though Hasbro's AoE Galvatron could use a lot more paint).
Not sure who else would qualify for Leader size. Probably the other dinobots? Demolisher? Who else was giant?
