Seems like a lot of trouble, but I'd rather be content with the decent box I got than risk getting a smashed up or otherwise abused one from the website.

Oh yessss! I've ordered mine in the nick of time then! I had to close an account for an US address, because they don't ship to Europe!
I already owned Takara's MP-08 but now I can have him in both in Robot as in Dino mode!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE POST!

hey don't worry, they've been doing this promotion every 2 weeks. You may be in luck in another 2 weeks before the movie is released. just make sure to wake up at 9-10am to check. or keep it locked on these forums.

So that means that TRU doesnt necessarily sell it for the price online?

Depends on your area I think. In NY I believe it retails for $93?

The figure is crap!! I agree and cannot see why so many are selling. The figure is not worth $79.99 let alone what the scalpers are charging. NOTHING on mine ordered from TRU.com worked correctly...I was afraid to even change the eye color after the gun to mine broke off in Grimlock's hand hole. I took mine back as defective to my local TRU and now have another MISB (none of the gimmicks worked on mine as figure was super loose...not that the gimmicks are worth a damn anyway). I really do not plan on even opening it...probably just display in box. This figure is a complete disappointment to the nth degree!
I wish Hasbro would have gutted this thing of gimmicks and just gave us a figure that would properly lock in robot form so that it could be handled and displayed. I could give a crap if the head and tail move or the gun/sword light up.

Yeah, I was gonna say the (horrible) problems you have experienced are not linked to the figure itself, but I guess a bad batch or QC problems with this particular release. I have the original Takara release and everything is fine. If you're not scared of it breaking he's actually really fun
He never felt worth the Takara prices though, I'll admit

I know this toy was on some shelves at the end of May, but nothing since. My local TRU just gives me the "I don't know" run around. Any help is appreciated.

The answer is now. If he is not in stores, then the store will probably not be getting that much more soon and you are better off getting him online (he is cheaper there too in some cases). The same thing happened with MP10 and Soundwave. They had a very short time on the shelves. I would recomend getting him online while he is still available.

dude the reason why its selling is that even if the toy doesnt work well compared to prior releases, the mold is spectacular to look at and the character is hella popular.
I would have bought this figure for 99.99 in canada toysrus because the going rate that time online was 199.99.

Ditto, mine is fine. It has one really tight knee joint but that's easy to take care of with a screw driver. Some of the chrome finish can be a little better but it's really a non-issue over all. Sorry you got the short end of the stick reluctantyouth but it's still a great figure with a good price.

He is my very firt masterpiece and I was very excited to get him. The figure is certainly not crap but his legs are too loose and too tight at certain parts making him hard to keep in certain poses and a bit tough for the alt mode tail to transform. Those are 2 flaws that are hard to ignore.
But its still a fine toy; it looks great (especially in Dino mode) and the light gimicks work fine. The other gimmicks dont but they dont hinder the figure much either. While I agree that paying over 100$ is nuts for this mold in any release when thinking of its flaws, I think most masterpiece prices are nuts when you compare it to the 20$ price of the Alternators when they came out and the 50-60$ price tag for very detailed Leader figures we have had in the past like Movie Leader Sentinel Prime, ROTF Optimus and HFTD Starscream.
I mean seriously, is Masterpiece Grimlock or even MP-10 (Hasbro release) truly worth more than ROTF Leader Optimus or HFTD Leader Starscream? I am referring to the detail and engineering involved with these toys. And are the smaller MPs, like Prowl, truly worth so much more than the Alternators and the Human Alliance figures? I agree that the esthetic and nostalgia of said esthetic plays a huge role in pricing, on Hasbro's behalf, but I find it hard to beleive that so much mure resources are put into masterpiece figures to validate their higher cost when compared to the other figures mentioned.

There's nothing wrong with that either! It's a line where I think you really have to be into the character you're paying for to appreciate the detail and engineering that goes into them, and the sometimes slavish cartoon accuracy. That is not something for everyone or every budget.
That was very well said. I am very impressed at how diplomatic this board is. It's very different than all the rage found in forums all across the web.

Understand that some people (myself included) have to sometimes convince THEMSELVES that they don't want a particular toy for whatever reason. Sometimes when you are a collector or a little obsessed and you either don't have the room or the money to buy something you might want to complain about the flaws in the figure in an attempt to say "I don't need this, and this is why". you may regret it later once you have to pay scalper prices, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

The only question is that do you use your toys as display or to play with from time to time. I would say the grimlock is amazing in both modes, they have some TOY problems with it like joint mobility. There are some sculpt issues too. but this toy line is the best of both worlds toy and sculpt (art). this grimlock is worth every penny. This will fetch 140$+ next year when it is out of production. So is it worth it? yes, youre not going to lose money.

I fully agree. Anyone who can get this for less than 100$ should feel no buyer's remorse based on the price alone.
Though I would add that some past movie leaders as well as the Human Alliance line (and the hunt for decepticon line) have also been the best of both worlds, though obviously not as consistent as the MP line. And of course, its not the classic esthetic.

i'm not a real collector, but if youre a real collector you know that the best things to collect for value are the OG (original) of any product line, not the reinvention or alternative look. (unless its some rare low supply figure that completes a set to a more popular team of figures... i really dont know if anyone should collect alternative costumes or designs for the future monetary value).
i may be wrong about all of this, but this is my opinion to anyone still thinking a sub-par grimlock isn't worth ~100 dollars. anyone see the going rate of mp-10 on ebay? 300 dollars!!!

I see what you are getting at but we should be more precise and say that not only are original characters a safer bet, it is their best toys which will be worth the most later.
Or else, the original G1 optimus toy would be worth the most and that is not the case as you pointed out. MP 10 is even more wanted than MP 01. The generations Rhinox is worth more than the original rhinox and Universe Dinobot is worth more than the original release. That's because people want the most show accurate and best thought out version of those original characters. So far, this Grimlock mold does fit that bill.
