From the leak a little while ago, the Hotspot repaint is supposed to be Inferno

I'm pretty sure that's not G2 Menasor or even a G2 Motormaster mold. That's definitely a repaint of Hot Spot (Defensor) or in this case, Voyager Class Inferno from Power of the Primes line.

Don't you mean a repaint of Defensor, or in this case, a repaint of Hot Spot into Inferno.

But as pointed out by others, isn't it more likely that it's inferno, a redeco of hot spot and not G2 defensor?

Yeah. It fails. Many of these PotP toys just look kinda nasty (especially that Jazz that looks so low quality and not even half as good as the RTS mold) and suffer from being forced into those gimmicks the characters were never part of in the first place. A real shame they couldn't have just updated the Dinobots normally and ignored the combiner crud.

I'm really liking the look of Swoop there. Shame they couldn't work in guns or something on his big beast mode backpack, but still really friggin' awesome Can't wait to combine him and Jazz to Sky Lynx or Elita-1 or someone!

So seeing as how Inferno doesn't have a new combined mode head it makes me wonder how Takara is going to play this. Will they give him a new head? Maybe not do the combiner at all? But then what happens to jazz and his assumed limb mates if they ditch this combiner?

Maybe Inferno isn't meant to be with anyone and he'll be skipped? They skipped BC Prime after all.

I suppose that's possible but then who does jazz belong to? It seems unlikely that Hasbro would release an odd number of limbs.

We just know we're getting a Hot Spot repaint as Inferno. Before I thought they were just doing him as filler, but now I'm wondering if they're doing it as a way to get G2 Defensor under a different name. Maybe they'll release G2 Streetwise as Barricade or something.

I'm certainly interested in all three of these Combiners from the pic. I missed out on CW Defensor so whoever that is should be interesting. Same story with G1 Abominus -- this'll be my first incarnation (assuming distribution of them are available locally!).

Elita One is the torso. She's a reuse of the Starscream mold.

Lets hope these leaks stay online. Hasbro needs to be pressured till they realize the "tease" method of marketing toys is a total fail.

On a seperate note Im a little dissapointed they went the ugly toy accurate route with the Abominus head. I want a magenta head with slanted antenna like the cartoon. I guess they gotta leave something for Takara to do or nobody will buy the their version 6 months later when it comes out. Im sure Perfect Effect will have all the right fixes. Especially if they plan to go back to the dumbo combiner feet/hands instead of using the Computron set molds. Oh well at least Hasbro is getting the actual figures right this time around. Accessories can easily be replaced.

Slag/Slug looks horrible, too small, barely no tail and no neck.

Hasbro needs to make the Dinobots all Voyagers at least for them to look good next to Devastator.

Ah Elita's the torso! I thought she might just be the head that flips out from under some other femme bot - thank you both for the clarification.

I hope they can work on the chunkiness then, if she's that PotP Starscream....

Yes, that POTP, not CW. The combined mode is the same character as the torso, just supposed to be on "evolved/power mode"

I'm eager to see a lot more pics! And the first sighting....but with TR and TLK cramming shelves, and the former with toys from wave1 still, it's probably gonna be next year. I'm hoping for Xmas tho.

Had she won, we'd be getting her as an evolving Leader class toy instead of Optimus Primal.

I do like the bulkiness as it's evocative of the character -- I just hope her arms are given a far better treatment than Starscream's. I have no idea what they were thinking with those huge chunky mitts as it throws the whole thing off

I'll have to agree with everyone that the Defensor redeco is indeed Inferno. Not only was he the one leaked, but his combined form has Dinobots for limbs, which indicates that he, like Starscream, is a stand-alone torso. Shame, I really would have liked to see Firestormer.

And blast my eye for detail. Elita-1 seems to be a stand-alone torso as well, as her art has Jazz as one of the legs. Awkward much? Inferno has SlugSlag and some vehicle as legs, with (I think) another Dinobot as an arm.

Does anything think Dreadwind's hand piece resembled one of the Powermasters, or is it just me?

I don't think that's what's being implied at all. Remember -- unlike where CW had just a Combaticon wave or an Optimus Maximus wave, the limbs for each Combiner this time around are spread all throughout different waves. So if all of Elita-1's Limbs aren't out yet, they can't just advertise her with them on -- you'd be advertising toys that kids can't get yet.

It's more like how early promotional material for CW showed Optimus combining with Wave 1 - three Aerialbots and a Decepticon - even though he later got a dedicated team.

And I'll counter that argument with Abominus being made of all Terrorcons, despite being split between two waves. Same for Volcanicus. True, they're consecutive waves, but that only makes it more likely that Elita-1 and Inferno are stand-alone. Also, Moonracer and the rumored Novastar/Firestar have on wave between them.

Not sure. From the leaks we know at least 3 autobots limbs outside the dinobots. So Elita may be their official torso.

I think everyone is way overthinking the combiners. The reason the artwork has random limbs on them is because those are the limbs that are going to be out at the same time. Much like how Superion had drag strip initially and when groove was released it showed him as a limb for sky reign. These pictures mean nothing. Besides we already know that Elita 1 is getting at least 2 limbs of her own so it's not far fetched to think that she'll get 2 more

Wouldn't make that much sense to retool those just panels. Besides, the leaks were of such quality that distortions when enlarged could easily occur, then there's Hasbro's penchant for mistransforming.

Yeah but those pieces are completely different shapes even enlarging something doesn't change a rectangle shape to a dome shape.

Elite confirmed from Starscream... just no, come on. Starscream really needed to avoid the combiner gimmick since it made his jet mode very lackluster. And Elita as a flyer, from that mold...

At least Abominus looks great so far. I'm sort of hoping for a boxset redeco of him in shattered glass colors with his scholarly book.

And Slug definitely needs a larger frill.

That came out years before I actually started collecting and I've yet to find one for a decent price.

At the very least, I hope they do some extensive retooling to Inferno as an individual. That may be the only thing that saves him

Yes. That mold in no way is good for him other than being a fire truck, and honestly, a retooled Hun-Gurr as IDW Strafe, or a retooled Grimlock as someone else would have been more applicable and fun, not a (let's see, Hot Spot, Onslaught, G2 Slaught, Pyra Magna) 5th Hasbro usage of that mold.

True, I guess the signs pointing to either direction balance each other out.

Inferno being a headswap without any additional retooling is pretty much a given though. I was hoping for at least the Combiner head to be retooled, but alas...

If you don't like retools don't buy em and let the others who don't mind such as my self get them.

There will always be retools and repaints for cost reasons and to make sure HasTak gets full millage out of the molds.

While I agree on the general way, I have nothing against retools and repaints, I think we can safely say hotspot has been retooled too much. This one needs to do a pause and not to be seen for the 10 incoming years.
I even lost count. 10th ? 12th repaints/retools ?
