Hasbro just sent us a message confirming what we saw this morning and giving us more detail. As it turns out, that is indeed a new Movie Masterpiece Bumblebee, numbered at MPM-3. It is done to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the first film. More linked to the new film, The Last Knight, is the Leader Optimus Redeco with new weapons. Both seem to be Asian editions so it is currently unkown if they will be sold in the west at big box retail. Below is all the info we have from Hasbro, including the prices and official stock images.

Transformers: The Last Knight Premier Edition Leader Shadow Spark Optimus Prime

It may just be me, but it totally looks like the Leader Class Age of Extinction Prime with a few changes. Like the chest piece (though it may just be the paint), head, and a few other bits.

The back of the figure is near identical. Same backpack, transformation panels, legs etc... all the same. Even the same sword.

I'm calling a slight retool at best:

It is baffling that they went to such lengths to make that neat looking deco and didn't use the retooled Armor Knight version that is more movie-accurate than Hasbro's original version that was instead based more on earlier AOE concept art.

I'm fairly certain that Bumblebee is either a new mold or, at the very least, it's not the Battle Ops Bumblebee/MPM-2 Bumblebee mold.

The fully lit stock pictures make the color scheme look quite a bit more bland than the original reveal pics did.

Those arms look super bare. And the rust on the chest looks very much out of place with the shiny blue plastic around.

The amusing thing is that someone like Wei Jiang can easily copy the "Nemesis" Optimus Prime deco onto their superior Mould and it would look a lot better too - there is a very premium light up one they keep showing - I do wonder if they just use that for promotional displays or plan to release it.

I think Optimus is going to be 3 different colours in this Movie - initially he will be iced up but look like he did in AOE then he will be this darker muted banged up look with purple eyes (suggestive of Nemesis Prime) and then he might get the Silver Knight Optimus deco they crapped out on from the last Movie - as I've seen a fair bit of promotional stuff for The Last Knight showing the silver deco - so there must be a reason for that.

Why does everyone asume Bumblebee is a retool? Look at the near perfect proportions, DOTM Bee looked quite clunky, this one looks fit, the wheels ARE the ankles instead of being at the side, the front of the car compresses, the hands are articulated (and I'm pretty sure the wrists can swivel) AND THEY FINALLY GAVE HIM THE LITTLE WINGS!!!(upside down, but meeeeh)

RAR wrote:I've seen a fair bit of promotional stuff for The Last Knight showing the silver deco - so there must be a reason for that.

yeah, the reason is early on in the development, back when the movie makers were giving the info to Hasbro to plan out the toyline, Optimus was supposed to become a silver knight at the end. However, the dropped the idea during production and his only change is his chest and forearms.

Poor Target, they went all in on that Silver Optimus concept.

It seems to be! but seeing as this is the Dark Energon(or Shadow Spark as they are officially calling it) version....i guess they were going for a kind of Nemesis dark tone style of paint scheme.

But dont worry, until now the line was just toys in the mainline with different paint jobs. Like if you have Leader Starscream and Battle Ops Bumblebee then thats already the first 2. its just that Takara released those same toys in a nice box and called them masterpiece. And now, years later, they are continuing this line.

So, with regards to the listings of the size classes, I want a voyager Optimus, Megatron, and Onslaught. Hopefully they can nail all 3. Do a fat Hound too please.

Hopefully Sqweeks is a legion. It would suit his size. A deluxe may not hurt either.

Also: That Bumblebee is amazing and I want it. That is a perfect movie Bee

But you're right, not only do these figures not share the same parts, I'm positive they aren't even the same size. The previous Bees were Leaders, but I think the new Bee might be closer to the size of normal MP cars, closer to Voyager size.

Why? Well let's compare things that both the pics of SS Optimus Prime and MP Bumblebee have in common.

Image
Check out the pedestal and how much of it he takes up, robot alone. Also take note of the blue name placard below him and how small it looks compared to Prime.

Image
Now look at the same pedestal under Bee and how there's enough space for both the bot and car to fit easily. Also look at how big that blue placard now looks next to Bee. Plus the price is in line with Hasbro's other MP car releases.

I'll be looking forward to seeing how Takara Tomy prices him and can't wait to pair him with their repaint of DotM Leader Optimus Prime.

Hence why I am certain they didnt. The first clue is that the item number remains the Takara designation of MPM-3. Hasbro Asia distributes all of Takara's MPs, so it makes perfect sense that they would unveil their latest entry into the MPM line at a show dedicated to the new movie inspired line just as they were the ones who first unveiled MP Dirge, even though that is of course a Takara product. Logically, it would be that Takara initiated this but that their asian distribution partner worked in part of their contract that they would be the ones unveiling it first.

They couldn'tve used the blatantly superior Takara version of the mold for Optimus? I don't know why I'm complaining; I have no plans in delving too far into The Last Knight line anyway, just a few of the new characters and that's it.

So is Bumblebee a brand-spanking-new mold? It looks nice, but again, I've no need for it.

Hmm... This changes things. I don't have any of the previous big movie Bees; they seem cool enough (or, at least, Battle Ops Bee does), but they just didn't feel like things I needed. But this one possibly actually being in MP scale... I probably shouldn't be getting a toy I might not otherwise care about just because it scales with a scale I collect, but it would be cool to finally have a figure from another continuity in Masterpiece scale.

Looks like a swappable arm canon rather than a transforming arm.

Its probably because its still a prototype in these images, but the plastic looks very "resin-y" . As in it doesn't quite look like plastic.

Anyway BB looks pretty cool overall. Wonder if Hasbro NA will release it on this side of the pond or if this will be an Asia Exclusive thing.

Maybe since the G1, Victory, and BW cartoons are all part of the same continuity in Japan, the main MP line can incorporate the BW characters, while the Movies are a different continuity (one that even uses the Hasbro names even in Japan) and so get their own distinct "MPM" line.

I'm guessing because Beast Wars is still considered G1, whereas the Movie line is its own universe and style. Besides, I'd rather have everything streamlined rather than having so many sublines the logistics would be a nightmare

I think its because the MPM line already existed and was made up of molds not original to the line. That is why the distcintion was made originally and I think they are keeping it distinct to keep form. Also it could be to distance themselves from Takara, which they are doing a good job at since we are currently not sure who exactly is responsible for this product.

True. But somehow $80 + Shipping seems a little steep for a Bumblebee in comparison to the awesome sauce that is MP Sideswipe, or even Hot Rod.

Even Tracks was not worth its full MSRP. Though I'm glad to have picked him up for $45 when the opportunity arose from BBTS.
