Ooooh dear, Vortex does not carry that extra back kibble well.

Also, haha; joke's on you, Shajaki - I don't have a mouse wheel to be in good shape. I use a trackpad and prefer a trackpad because I'm an abomination.

Another trackpad user! I'm not alone! My friend still thinks it's weird I use a trackpad to play Minecraft!

Anyway, on topic, I really like this guy. These guys. Whatever. Vortex's blades do look pretty awkward and I'm still a bit iffy on how big Blastoff's chest is, but overall I'm glad I'll have them. This is the only Unite Warriors set I'm likely to get, and I have the Hasbro version too - Bruticus is my favorite combiner. Looks like it'll be a good one!

Even with the mismatched ballerina feet it stills rocks harder than the Hasbro version. Love that Vortex too. Much preferred over the G2 lookin Hasbro one.

You... might actually have eye damage if you're equating the muted colors of hasbro's retail release (and not actually the g2 version, it's hard to tell) with a neon g2 transformer, when the TT one is objectively brighter than the hasbro release in all cases...

In some ways I am more excited about this set than Computron...
Partly because I always liked this character so much.

Some new (or somewhat new) observations:

I really do like UW Blast Off. LOVE the headsculpt.
I can totally deal with the burnt orange color, however, I do wish his arms were the dark brown so the arms didn't stand out so much in the alt mode.

The darker gray on Brawl helps him look even more badass. The show-accurate colors of the head & face are beautiful.

Onslaught may be my new favorite of the group now...
The two grays of the "backpack" canons look great. Of course having the silver rims of the wheels is nice.
I really like the blue color, and the paint apps on the forearms, wrists and fists... :APPLAUSE:
BEAUTIFUL!!!
I don't like seeing Blast Off's colors in the canon/backpack area, but not a huge deal imo.

Hasbro's Swindle tan-ish orange color is fine, but I like UW's better. That and the silver is a nice change.
I actually don' like the purple hood. I know it's from the show, but I think with this mold it doesn't work real well. I don't mind it. Just kinda mehh for me.

LOVE the look of Vortex's head with those colors. It will be interesting to see if the blades are an issue in bot mode or not.

It is going to be really difficult to wait until August to have this set.
I already have Shockwave and the PE hands and feet waiting!

Bruticus arrived yesterday afternoon from Amazon.jp. Love the colors on it. The Hasbro version just seemed a bit too plain for my tastes.

Brawl's HFG's colour looks pretty damn good on his vehicle mode, although the recolour suits Swindle a bit less. Blast Off looks a bit blocky for my tastes, but I can respect the importance of nostalgia for some (happy we have both options!).

That Computron looks fecking amazing...
Afterburner may not be as red-orange as I would like, but he's definitely not the same red as Lightspeed.

Can't. Wait. For. August.

Don't know how, don't know why, but I'm bacccckkkk! I love that they changed the rotor on Vortex, remember in the cartoon that was a weapon for Bruticus. I like how the other members look, but I am disappointed they didn't change the cannon back pack, what is Bruticus supposed to use a weapon?

Yeah, too bad he can't emulate that, would've been awesome; as for weapons, I'd imagine the dual mini-guns attached to his fists would do some damage |:|

You know whats interesting? While I can never say that Takara didnt do well here, they did a lot right, I think Hasbro's effort is comendable. When it comes to individual modes, most are as good to me:

Brawl is kinds the same. Sure Takara has some extra colour on the face but its nothing to write home about, though I do wish Hasbro's was a mroe toy accurate green to be more distinctive.

I preffer Hasbro's Swindle. The vehicle mode works much better to me and I like his chest better too with the nice colours and the coloured peg.

For Vortex its a trade off, both are ok. I like the extra blades but they are as much a burden as a blessing. Same for the colours, the blue on Takara's looks as off as the Yellow on Hasbro's. And I commend Takara on their show accuracy as mucha s I commend Hasbro on their toy accuracy. I guess for the fun of the chest colour, I preffer Hasbro's, I mean look at those colours!

Both Blastoffs are off. Sure, one is an actual shuttle, but I really dislike the arms just being there and the not forming the nose. Plus that protruding chest is bad comedy and those colours arent great. I love the look of Hasbro's in robot mode. The colours are great, but of course its just a redeco of a jet :(

And finally for Onslought, I always loved that Hasbro deco. It works really well for me, and I see him better in muted colours than in bright colours. And the vehicle mode's colours are better. But that combined torso on takara's looks great, so I guess its a toss up with a personal preference going to Hasbro.

In the end, both are fine and I am ok just sticking with Hasbro's. I dont feel as compelled to get this guy as I do Takara's computron which has a serious edge against Hasbro's.

The blasters on his knuckles?

Or the raw power of tearing his enemies apart with his bare hands.

Or, one could buy a version of Legends class Shockwave for him to use.

Yeah, I'm just talking about Vortex. If you think blue, black and gray is more garish than teal green, red, yellow, purple and gray than we obviously have different definitions of "muted colors".

Gotta say, I like the disparate look of the Unite Warriors version. It fits well with the origins of the Combaticons and of Bruticus himself. Cobbled together from bits and pieces of machinery from (possibly several different) earth wars, looking a bit like Frankenstein's Monster makes sense.

It also helps to set it apart from what, until now, have been some pretty well-balanced combiner modes. Superion, Menasor (to a point), Devastator, and Defensor all look like "teams" while Devastator looks like five separate characters literally thrown together.

This is especially nice considering Bruticus' place in the Combiner Wars line. It's the first wide release since Devastator came out months ago. And it came out just a few months before the heavily anticipated Computron (another gestalt with a uniform color scheme). Bruticus could have easily been a "pass" by for many fans who were happy with (and/or already imported) the Hasbro version. But the colors (as well as the all-new Blast Off mold (which, even I have to admit, isn't all that great as its own figure) gives it a little extra "pop" that may have convinced folks to buy it.

Heck, I know I had reservations about it. I got my order in for Computron the day it went up on Amazon, but didn't order Bruticus until the advanced pics grew on me.

Glad I picked it up. Hope I've got some time this week to fiddle around with it.

Yeah, but if only Hasbro's Brawl was more green than brown, that would really bring home the idea of a full toy accuracy over show accuracy. Because as it stands, he is the odd man out for Hasbro in terms of colours and the only one who matches more closely with the takara counterpart.

Um...I think it's actually kinda more my bad? Yeah cuz while the UW version has more vivid colors they at least can fall into either an analogous or complimentary color scheme. As for the Hasbro release, with the exception of Vortex they all have pretty consistent color schemes as well-although more subdued.

What I meant by my "G2 Vortex" comment was not necessarily that it pays homage to the OG G2 color scheme but rather that it displayed that level of gaudiness.

Overall, I think both work brilliantly. Personally, I prefer the UW version as the colors pop more even if those feet are a total fail-despite their cartoon accuracy. And yeah I really can't stand that Hasbro Vortex.

Come to think of it, Computron vs Bruticus would still be pretty awesome. Bruticus is known simultaneously as the physically strongest combiner and the dumbest combiner - while Computron is the exact opposite. Would be interesting at the very least.

Yeah, those are just the next two Unite Warriors release due out this summer. Nothing else is being insinuated by their pairing here. It would make more sense to match Bruticus with Defensor for promotional purposes, yes, but why get people hyped for a release over half a year old and almost sold out by now anyway? Computron is the FUTURE! ;)

Wouldn't it be wild if Hasbro did eventually release the space shuttle version of Blast Off, perhaps for next year's "May Mayhem" event, and it had a much more cartoon accurate (read: darker brown) paint job than Takara's?

Deluxe Groove still came out during Combiner Wars though. Next year we'll be into full blown Titans Return AND the Last Knight stuff will be hitting shelves. Even though the May Mayhem stuff is online only, it seems unlikely they'd go back to Combiner Wars with all that going on.

Yeah, I dont mean to be a negatron but while I was 100% sure deluxe Groove would come out (since there was a big gap between the Takara reveal and the chance for Hasbro to release him, plus them using the mold for computron), I do not think we will be getting a hasbro release of that Blastoff. May Mayhem doesnt have to be a constant. It happened once well, the next year had half the toys and a fraction of the retailers (due to a production snafu apparently). I wold love for people to get a chance to own that figure but I am not holding out the same kind of hope I did with Groove.

Courtesy of fellow Seibertronian Cyberpath, we now have the full pack-in comic for Unite Warriors Lynx Master, by Hayato Sakamoto. While not yet translated it tells the story of how Sky Lynx and his team came to be a combiner while involving past Unite Warriors releases. It also hints at a possible Unite Warriors Victorion in the future.

In addition, fellow Seibertronian Sabrblade has written up a rather comprehensive synopsis to give some clarity for non-Japanese-reading viewers.

Sabrblade wrote:Let's see, Cybertron gets blown up in the year 2011 during The Headmasters cartoon. Sky Lynx and the other four Autobots (with Ratchet somehow not dead, Wheeljack already got an explanation for his being alive) arriving to find the planet destroyed, much to their horror. They find Sunstreaker and Ironhide (who's also somehow alive again) in bad shape, as well as the shambled remains of Vector Sigma, who upgrades Sky Lynx and the other four who came with him into their UW bodies.

Ten years later, 2021, Cybertron's back in business but attacked by the recently-created Grand Galvatron. Marissa Faireborn and her daughter Sue bear witness to this alongside UW Ironhide. Trailbreaker puts up some resistance with his force field, which, from the looks of it, manages to detach Grand Galvatron's arms from his torso. Wheeljack uses the "Immobilizer V2" to disable Ghost Starscream. And Hound uses his holograms to trick Zombie War Breakdown into thinking Curse Armada Thrust is Medic Knock Out.

Down below, in the Oracle chamber first seen in Beast Machines, Ratchet works on either the dead Convoy or a new body for him (can't tell which) in front of the Oracle, within which lies Vector Sigma in its new Bw Eggbot redeco body that would have come with the Million Publishing Alpha Trion redeco of the Generations Scourge toy had that gotten released. Wandering Roller bursts in aiming to destroy Convoy, but Sky Lynx subdues him. The rest of Grand Galvatron's components burst in and are met by Sky Lynx's team.

Grand Galvatron and Lynx Master are formed and duke it out in the chamber. Lynx Master uses Hound's hologram fist to make multiples of himself, but Grand Galvatron overcomes this trick and blasts the real Lynx Master. As the battered Lynx Master lies on the ground at Grand Galvatron's mercy, he uses his Ratchet foot to heal his injuries and bites back at Grand Galvatron.

Elsewhere, five Decepticons stand in the shadow, all appearing to be the Victorion molds minus Rust Dust. According to this, their leader, the one based on Pyra Magna's mold, muses the following of the situation to the others: "As the wife of the Lord of Destruction, this cannot be ignored."

Now that's rather interesting. If TT releases an evil Victorion, I might have to pick her up.
