With the holiday season now in full swing, I wanted to write a quick guide for parents, or grandparents or relatives of kids who like Transformers. If you are at the store and not sure what to get, here are some toys that I'd recommend based on value, quality, age appropriateness and presentation (something that looks good as a present), which is more important this time of year. And if you are a life partner of a Transformers fan, and knows what they have and don't have, well just skip to the end. We will break it down by tight age categories (though there is some overlap) since when it comes to younger kids, the products vary wildly for what is too complex or too babyish. And remember, these are simply recommendations for those who are not sure what to get.

For 2-3 year old, I would recommend either Rescue Bots Dinobot Adventures Optimus Prime or the Rescue Bots Dinobots 3 pack. Both are terrific toy for young kids. Optimus turns into a t-rex in one step and he has an Ankylosaurus friend which swiftly becomes a shield for him in robot mode.

This product may not be in your area so I am also recommending this 3 pack that can currently be purchased on Amazon.com. It has a nice variety including a robot that turns into a 2 headed dragon, a t-rex that turns into a motorcycle and a robot that turns into a Stegosaurus. All three transform in just 1 step and can easily be done by someone as young as 2. Here is the link: https://www.amazon.com/Transformers-F29 ... TOY_FIGURE?tag=seibertron07-20&

For 4-6 years old, I would recommend the roll and combine Slugatron toy from Cyberverse. You get 2 characters, it's not too complex, the combiner mode looks good and the gimmick is fun. Also not too pricey. Overall, it's a good package and looks great as a Christmas gift. We have a video review for you to check out below and here is the link to the item on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Bum ... TOY_FIGURE?tag=seibertron07-20&

Transformers News: 2021 Gift Guide for Transformers Fans Young and Old

For 6-9 years old I would recommend Cyberverse deluxe Soundwave (remember, deluxe Soundwave, not warrior Soundwave, which is not a good toy) since he's a main character of the current show, has a good transformation which is challenging enough for this age group and is basically 2 bots in one due to Laserbeak, a bird that transforms into a cassette that stores in his chest. There is a review below. There are no longer any copies available online for the retail price, but he could still be found in stores.

Another option would be Cyberverse deluxe Slug, who also looks great and has a fun transformation, and is especially fun for a kid who likes dinosaurs since he turns into a robotic Triceratops. He is also readily available on Amazon right now https://www.amazon.com/Transformers-TRA ... TOY_FIGURE?tag=seibertron07-20&

Transformers News: 2021 Gift Guide for Transformers Fans Young and Old

Now, for older fans, there is one hot toy this year that most fans want (especially anyone over 30) but not all are willing to spend their money on. And that is Rodimus Prime from the Kingdom line. The toy is fantastic, and the best official representation we have ever gotten of the leader of the Autobots once Optimus died. The reason why many fans hesitate over this toy though is the price. It is $80 USD, so not cheap, and he isn't big either (he is made to scale with all the other figures). But that's why gift giving is so fun. I know that while I may not want to spend all that money myself, I would never say no to finding it under the Christmas tree. And if ever you aren't sure if they have it or not, just keep the receipt. Here is the link to this toy on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Transformers-Toy ... B08D6T2R6W?tag=seibertron07-20&

Every month now, Seibertron.com brings you a Top 5 list related to all things Transformers written by me, your fellow editor. These are my opinions (just like movie or game reviews hosted by sites are still just the opinion of one person) so what matters most is what you guys think of the topic or list, and I hope to see your own lists or comments on omissions and ranking. Let's have fun! All previous lists can be found here.

Top 5 Best Sunstreaker Transformers Toys

One thing I realized while writing this list, there are not a lot of Sunstreaker toys out there. Unlike many G1 characters, including his brother Sideswipe, he isn't a legacy character. Meaning that he, and any toy based on him, only ever appears in a G1 context. There isn't a version of him in the Aligned continuity, or the Unicron trilogy or even the films, and he doesn't even have extra g1 toys, like an action master. He is a very singular character and so this list is almost all there is to him, or at least all that is worth remembering and celebrating. So let's get to it!

5. Transformers Alternators Sunstreaker

There is an amount of sameness with all the Alternators designs and transformations but when looked at individually, this complaint melts away. It will forever be a wonderful concept, favoring an MP level licensed alt mode at a standard retail price point, bringing in both transformers fans and car model fans. And Sustreaker is one of the best ones since the transformation does land the windshield on his torso and it gives us a fun headsculpt.

4. Transformers G1 1984 Sunstreaker

The sunstreaker design will always be a fun one and this is where it all started.

3. Transformers Universe - Classics 2.0 Sunstreaker

This design was so ambitious and downright revolutionary. To have the two lambo brothers share the same mold and yet have their distinct robot modes is mind blowing.

2. Transformers War for Cybertron Earthrise Sunstreaker

What a stellar toy to get in a mainline at retail, especially in terms of transformation. I love how there is minimal use of fake parts (only his toes, which I also find genius since it's the underside of the car's front instead) and he just looks great in both modes. I was satisfied with my Siege Sideswipe at first, but when this Sunsreaker came out with that more squarish alt mode, I just needed something similar for Sideswipe (which luckily we did get).

1. Transformers MP-39 Masterpiece Sunstreaker

Takara went all out on this Masterpiece figure. While you can have the standard clean Countash mode, you can also turn it into a more G1 accurate super car mode in the back half. The alt mode also has pop up lights at the front. The robot ends up looking very sleek with Takara being smart in having the robot mode chest still line up with the larger car roof in alt mode giving the illusion that parts of the car morph to give him a sleeker silhouette in robot mode.

Top 5 Best Ramjet Transformers Toys

Ramjet is the next seeker/conehead we look at in this series of lists. Since many of these molds have already been visited in the past, the blurbs for each will be rather brief. While writing the lists for the coneheads, what I did find interesting was that each of them had at least one toy which is unique to them. Like this first one here...

5. Transformers Generation 2 Ramjet

Interestingly enough, this variant of the G1 seeker mold was first done for Ramjet, with Starscream coming after. It featured new firing missile launchers and a sound effects box, along with a rad G2 deco.

4.Transformers Masterpiece Ramjet

While I am far more lenient on the conehead version of the MP mold, due to all the extra retooling you get for each of the coneheads' unique wing patterns, I have to address the elephant in the room. The initial batch of Masterpiece Ramjet toys were misassembled the the point of not being able to convert the toy. Paying $200 for a dated mold is already not fun but for it to have such bad QC is shameful. But the toy did get corrected and it since retailers were told to keep the bad copies, they could have been obtained for really cheap by any fan willing to try to fix it themselves. So good news for some in a sea of bad news. MP Ramjet being on this list takes none of that QC in consideration and looks at the toy as intended and as I hope he is in your collection. And what he is, is fine. I like the retooling, love that jet mode, love that secret door paneling on the wings that rotates, I like the step of flipping the cockpit chest to be more screen accurate, and I loathe the giant dong it gives him and the other coneheads.

3. Transformers Classics Ramjet

I really like the classics version of the mold for the coneheads over the seekers for the lack of kibble behind the head in robot mode. That's something even the (better) Earthrise mold couldn't do. And, as with the other coneheads, Hasbro does go all out by giving Ramjet the different wings he should have.

2. Transformers Universe Ramjet

This is an absolutely gorgeous looking Transformers toy. That deco is slick. While the white element is part of the G1 deco, this set just kicks it up a notch with adding a lot of blue highlights making this the most unique deco on the list (yeah, even more than that G2 one, purple ain't that rare a colour for bad guys). Plus this mold comes with all the extras we got from the Skywarp retooling of the original Armada Starscream mold. Plus this Toysrus Exclusive boxset came with a bunch of minicons for added fun.

1. Transformers War for Cybertron Earthrise Ramjet

This mold rocks. It took an excellent mold as a basis and made it the right size, and added the necessary articulation. It's the ideal mode to collect now to have the full array of seekers on your shelf, and at the right scale.

The G2 colours were pretty rad and I find it fun that they keep coming up with this toy. Now we have both the Classics and Earthrise mold with this particular deco.

Top 5 Best Dirge Transformers Toys

So we made a list for the three main seekers already, now we tackle the coneheads! Dirge is first simply by random choice. Since many of these molds have already been visited in the past, the blurbs for each will be rather brief. While writing the lists for the coneheads, what I did find interesting was that each of them had at least one toy where only that specific conehead was used as a redeco. Like this first one here...

5. Transformers Universe - Classics 2.0 Dirge

It's thanks to this release that we can actually call that wonderful Cyberteron voyager Starscream mold a seeker mold. On the show, Starscream and Thundercracker didn't share the same body type And that happened way later in a different line. Of course, since the Starsream toy had 2 different decos (standard in Japan and Thrust like maroon in the US), there was some variation, but Dirge (of all characters) was the only other character to use this mold. It's too bad there is 0 remolding to make him distinct, especially for his head, but the deco does give us a different looking face. The deco is stellar all around, giving us the right blues and browns of the G1 toy but onto this Cybertronian design. And as stated, you can still have a nice mix of colours to make it look like you have a group of seekers with this mold on your shelf.

4. Transformers G1 1985 Dirge

It might be a controversial statement but here it is: I much prefer the G1 coneheads over the three main seekers. I love how different they are from one to the next in terms of wings and weapons. Plus, with that conehead you reduce your kibble in robot mode.

3. Transformers Revenge of the Fallen Dirge

This one is super fun and it reminds me of an era I really miss. Ever since G1, going into Beast Wars the Transformers brand has a rich history of giving us toy only characters. These toy were not a material representation of a character from a show, it was just a toy to be enjoyed for what it was with it's own distinct design. ROTF Dirge is one of those toys. And it's pretty awesome since it is a movie verse interpretation of the coneheads. And I would say it is much more in line with what fans would have liked from these movies. While the design is still busy for a more "real life" aesthetic, this Dirge feels a lot more like a reimagining of the G1 design/character rather than a name slapped onto a bot. They give him the bare essentials like his conehead, the cockpit chest design and the right colour scheme and then just go wild after that, but in a fun way. There were several movie toys from that era which were of non movie characters and they often were far more interesting than the toys representing on screen characters. It's something I miss from movie toy lines.

Masterpiece MP-11ND Dirge

The masterpiece mold was dated by the time it came out but that didn't stop Takara from releasing all the coneheads with it. And I feel my thoughts on the pros of the G1 toys also work here. I like the variety that the coneheads offer with the wings and weapons. And while I really like that the cockpit chest rotates to be in the right direction in robot mode, it's unfortunate that the remainder of the jet nose juts out between his legs, which also removes the illusion that his head is the nosecone. It's a really nice representation of Dirge regardless.

1. Transformers Earthrise/Generations (classics) Dirge

Honestly, I think both are great. The Earthrise mold refines a lot of aspects of the classics mold and improves on articulation but I still think classics Dirge looks amazing. And without it, we wouldn't have the Earthrise one. And once again the same reason I preffer the G1 coneheads over the other seekers applies to these molds too, with the better treatment of kibble (on the Classics one) and variety of distinguishing features from one remold to the next. These molds rock. I know it, you know it, easy number 1 pick.

Top 5 Best G1 Megatron Toys

Megatron has had loads of toys throughout the years and unlike Optimus, they have all been very very different from one to the next. That's because his original alt mode, a realistic 1:1 gun, is not something that can be made a toy of as easily as a truck. This list is an update to the one we did regarding toys that evoke the original look of Megatron we all know and love. Unlike Optimus Prime, that look has changed throughout the years but the general theme and aesthetic was still maintained.

5. Transformers Reveal The Shield Legends Megatron

This toy HAD to be on this list, at all cost since it is much more significant than one may think. It is, to this day, Hasbro's final stab at a Megatron toy that turns into a hand gun. Sure, he is small, but that comes with its own set of advantages. For one that means you have a G1 gun Megatron to scale with larger toys like Generations Metroplex, joining other G1 styled smaller toys like Optimus and Starscream. Plus, him being so small, means you have a transforming Megatron toy that can be held by Masterpiece Starscream. In fact, in terms of cross compatibility, Megatron in his gun form can be held by Starscream in both robot mode(thanks to a peg at the handle) and jet mode (thanks to the clip underneath).

4. Transformers G1 1984 Megatron (Reissue)

While G1 Megatron may look of with propotions and a trigger hear his crotch, I feel this is one of the main G1 toys everyone should experience. The transformation is very clever and it is very impressive how back in the 80s they could have a realistic gun turn into a robot. There are plenty of reissues available, so taht helps, and it turns out the reissues are even better than the original. The original Hasbro version couldn't fire pellets while the original Takara release was not silver but several reissues give you the best of both worlds by having a silver/chrome finish gun that actually fires.

3. WFC Siege Megatron Netflix (specifically the Netflix boxset)

This toy was a looooooong time coming. While we had several Classics Megatrons over the years, they were either too small or too big or a redeco of another character (like Blitzwing or Bludgeon). And finally in the Siege line, we got a G1 styled Megatron who was the right size and not someone else's mold/body. That is worth celebrating, let alone the fact that he is a fun toy. The proportions are nice, especially the size of the fusion cannon, and while the tank mode could be better the robot mode makes up for any alt mode shortcoming. I especially recommend the Netflix version since the deco is more apt, especially int terms of the weathering, and it fixes an issue with the ankles. Plus it comes with targetmasters we actually needed like a properly coloured Lionizer and pinpointer.

2. Transformers Generations Selects Super Megatron

This is a pretty awesome release. Super Megatron was a pipe dream to many. And while most fans were unaware of this G1 iteration's original source material, the look and character models were. Especially when there were intentional callbacks to that design in the now iconic Animated look. Also, it made the Titans Return Galvatron mold a worthwhile endeavor. That mold was so disappointing for getting so much right but still not enough. And here it is reworked perfectly as if there was no Galvatron toy and this is the toy designed from the start. Not true, of course, but it speaks to the fact of how well this toy works. It has a lot going on with two alt modes, and three robot modes (albeit they are simply changes in faces and chest details which is still pretty cool and rarely seen). Deep down it's a fun figure of a niche version of G1 Megatron that looks amazing.

1. Takara Transformers Masterpiece MP 36 Megatron

I will be honest, I had my doubts with this toy. The price was the highest I had ever paid for a Transformers figure and the intricacies of the transformation worried me. The previous MP Megatron was not fun to transform and this one was even more complex.
But all those worries melted away when I first transformed the figure. Well, even before even because i was amazed at how solid the robot was. This toy has great articulation and parts don't unclip, he really stays together as a full fledged action figure. And then when transforming him you see just how many parts are involved and you wonder just how it's possible that you have all these small moving piece that can disconnect and reconnect themselves in different positions to form two solid modes. The transformation, while complex, was not annoying. Every part had a place to go, it felt like a pleasant journey. I especially liked the side of his abdominal area disappearing within the body of the gun. I also like transforming the legs since there are smaller pieces used just for the robot mode to fill out the legs and since they disappear when forming the gun handle, it really gives the impression that the toy is morphing to accommodate closer proportions to what we see on the show even though initially the handle of the gun simply split into two legs.
Whether that last part was clear or not doesn't matter, what I want to get across is that I felt I had a great toy and a great experience and that it was money well spent. I do not know if this is the best Masterpiece toy of all time but it is easily the best G1 Megatron toy by a country mile.

Honourable Mention: 3. Transformers United Megatron

For over a decade, this was the best G1 styled Megatron toy. The design is still great and very smart. I especially love how the legs become different parts of the gun's alt mode and yet are identical. While the Hasbro deco was a bit off, with some purple and neon green, the Takara versions and the recent Platinum release have some very nice paint schemes. And while there have been better toys to represent G1 Megatron on a shelf since then, this is still one of the best designed and original Transformers toy to ever come out.

Top 5 Best Volkswagen Beetle Bumblebee Transformers Toys

With the Volkswagen company being rather coy with their license on Transformers toys, it took a while to have enough toys to make such a list. With the floodgates opening (and then seemingly closing) for the 2018 Bumblebee movie, we now have more Volswagen Beetle Bees than ever before so let's look at the best of the bunch.

5. Transformers G1 1984 Bumblebee (Bumble)

A real classic if there ever was one and probably the second most iconic G1 toy (the first being Broadside, obviously). The transformation is quaint but fun and the car mode is perfect for what it is. I especially like that there is barely no hint that it transforms, with a really nice chassis underneath and that good old diecast. The sticker for the penny racer motor is a nice touch too. This being the toy that started it all for Bumblebee, I am glad it was reissued so that everyone can enjoy this fun toy.

4. Transformers: Bumblebee Energon Igniters Speed Series Bumblebee

Most legion/legends sized movie Bumblebee figures are not great. They either have fake chests for a simplified design to help the proportions or use the front of the car as the chest and end up looking bad. But this one works. We have a nice little Beetle for a car mode and a good looking bot mode with a real chest. And this toy even look more accurate than the more complex versions of this character model since he doesn't have the car doors as wings in bot mode.

3. Transformers Movie Masterpiece 7 Bumblebee

This is a very solid figure, with tight joints, and a tight fitting transformation that holds together well. After the massive disappointment that the Studio Series VW Bee proved to be, the solidness of this guy is a breath of fresh air. Transformation wise, this Bee does a great job at rotating and moving parts around to get them to properly compact and fit together in car mode. One thing I really like is how the the shoulders roll down, then swivel to the back so they can line up along the back of his legs. Over all, I really love this figure. While it doesn't have a ton of die cast, it is there, and give this smaller figure some nice heft. He does a good job of giving Bumblebee that "young bot" feel that this character has traditionally had. - Ironhidensh

2. Transformers WFC-09 Bumblebee Netflix Edition

Here is a toy that we all wanted for so long, a classics Bumblebee toy that turned into a VW Beetle. And the fact that it is a good toy is just icing on the cake. It feels a lot like a more affordable masterpiece toy (it even has the removeable backpack like MP 21) and scales perfectly with the ton of G1 characters we got in the two recent toy trilogies. The mold itself is top notch with a nice level of complexity, but still being intuitive. And it's really fun how this feels a lot like the G1 era where Bumblebee and Cliffjumper have different car modes and bot modes and yet share the same transformation. It's too bad this was hard to get for many because this really feels like the only Bumblbebee toy you'd need on your classics shelf.

1. Transformers MP-21 Masterpiece Bumblebee

My dear Masterpiece Bumblebee, after seven years, you're still the one. While the Bumblebee movie may have given us more VW themed toys than ever before, we can't forget that for a long time, the G1 toy was all we had for a Bumblebee turning into a Beetle. So when this Masterpiece came out, it was truly a time to celebrate. Not only did we finally get an actual Bumblebee that turned into a Volkswagen Beetle but it turned into an accurate Beetle rather than a super deformed version like in G1. And yet the amazing designers still found a way to give us the same look in bot mode as if it did turn into that same alt mode, with the recreation of the full car roof on his torso.

I really love that Transformation. The legs, for instance, do give homage to the G1 transformation but with added complexity to integrate kibble better and give him a nicer shape. And Takara provides all the articulation you would need. I love this toy and the fact that the more recent MP Bumblebee doesn't come close to this toy tells me that going for that extra toon accuracy and making a design more complex than it should be isn't always a recipe for success. This toy found a beautiful equilibrium of all these aspects of a Transformers toy.

Cyberverse toys don't get big reveals from Hasbro and it's easy to see why, they aren't made with older fans in mind, and those are the people paying attention to reveal videos. So we make sure to give all the info on new Cyberverse toys found at retail or in new listings so that those who care about any Transformers toy can be kept up to date. And it's always odd to see a decry from fans whenever we post about Cyberverse toys. There's already two lines made with fans in mind, so why can't there be a full on acceptance that some toys are made just for kids? It's those who watch the Cyberverse show afterall, and having a toyline for kids based on the current kids show is the backbone of our wonderful hobby. So we are posting this cute video below of a 3 year old showing off some of his Cyberverse toys and having fun with them (why not turn Starscream into a boat?). If anyone needed a reminder, this is who these toys are made for.

Every month, Seibertron.com brings you a Top 5 list related to all things Transformers written by me, your fellow editor. These are our opinions so what matters most is what you guys think of the topic or list, and I hope to see your own lists or comments on omissions and ranking. Let's have fun! All previous lists can be found here.

5. Transformers Generations GDO Legends Bluestreak (Silverstreak)

This Legends toy does a great job of capturing the visual cues of the original toy in a nicely updated design. The engineering also pulls a lot of good things from the transformations of previous Datsun toys. Ending up with a nice little design that's a hoot to play with. What makes this version of the mold even more special, is that he was retooled with gripping hands, in which he can hold the awesomely G1 styled blaster that was added to the figure.

4. Siege/Earthrise Bluestreak

The Prowl mold we got in Siege was fine, albeit a little vanilla. It did the job better than any mold before for a classics collection but it seemed to miss a je ne sais quoi. Well whatever Prowl was missing, Bluestreak found it. The paint job here just makes the mold pop! And having those extra two guns makes it feel more complete, especially since they peg into holes found on all versions of this mold. The Earthrise mold was just as good and simply served to give fans an earth mode option. Whichever one you get, both are the new definite Bluestreaks in any classics collection.

3. Transformers G1 1984 Bluestreak/Silverstreak/Streak

An oldie but a goodie. The Datsun mold is one of the pinnacles of the G1 era and a classic look for Autobots with the front of the car becoming the chest. Bluestreak's silver worked very well with the sportscar look.

2. Transformers Alternators Silverstreak (Streak)

Easily one of the better Alternators designs/toys. It was the first mold released and gave us an idea of what the line was about, making toys that could be in a model car collection but that could still transform. It was a precursor to the Masterpiece cars with the idea of what a G1 character would look like if they turned into realistic vehicles, which is an awesome concept. This particular mold retained some of the fun G1 aspects of the transformation along with the overall look when it comes to the chest and legs. That headsculpt is just excellent, at least for the time and it has the great distinction of being the only Hasbro product from that line that was fully painted. Plus, that Suberu Impreza alt mode is really cool and since this is an Alternators toy, you get all the fun that came with the line, like interiors and opening hood and doors. Definitely a highlight of any Bluestreak collection.

1. Transformers Masterpiece Bluestreak

Not only did the excellent Masterpiece Datsun mold give us Bluestreak in two G1 silver decos but we also got a Blue Bluestreak, which is a dream come true for many Bluestreak fans. And they made that deco count, as you can see from the images below.

Honourable Mention: Takara Transformers Adventures Bloody Knockout

This is more for fun. Nowhere was this toy ever mentioned as Bluestreak but when looking at that deco it is hard not to make a connection. That alt mode deco looks dead on as Bluestreak and it makes Knockout look really good, see for yourself!

Every month now, Seibertron.com brings you a Top 5 list related to all things Transformers written by me, your fellow editor or a guest. These are our opinions (just like movie or game reviews hosted by sites are still just the opinion of one person) so what matters most is what you guys think of the topic or list, and I hope to see your own lists or comments on omissions and ranking. Let's have fun! All previous lists can be found here.

Top 5 Same-Sex Transformers Couples

Happy Pride month, everybody! My name is Tigerhawk7109. I’ve been on the forums for about two years now. And, this week, I’ll be bringing you a special Pride-themed list. Before we begin, though, let me set one major rule: canon pairings only. As much as I stan ships like AlphaRoad, they’re not official. Also, major spoiler warning for More Than Meets the Eye and Lost Light ahead. And please remember that the use of the term "same-sex" is in the generalized sense where sex is used to refer to gender quite often. Now, without further ado, let’s get into it!

5: Knock Out and Breakdown

Knock Out, the slick Decepticon medic, was far and away the breakout character of Transformers: Prime. He was suave, he was extremely vain, and he gave Autobots like Bumblebee and Arcee a real challenge on the roads. His partner-in-crime was Breakdown, a heavy bruiser who filled the role of Bulkhead’s archnemesis. From their interactions in the show, many fans suspected that the two might have been a couple. As fun as it might’ve been, there was no official confirmation- until IDW stepped in and put their own spin on things.

When Knock Out was introduced in Windblade: Volume 2 number 4, he retains everything from his Prime persona except the sadistic streak. He’s a high-ranking racer on Velocitron, but nothing’s really been said that’s new. However, when Moonracer and Windblade have their conversation at Maccadam’s, the Velocitronian alludes to Knock Out having a Conjunx Endura who ‘couldn’t break Mach 1 if his life depended on it.’ Breakdown, with his bulky build, certainly fits this description. In the Holiday Special, we finally get confirmation that the two are a couple.

Because they had less time for their relationship to develop than any of the others on this list, Knock Out and Breakdown are lower in the ranking- but that doesn’t mean that they’re any less precious.

4: Drift and Ratchet

Suffice to say, this is a relationship that not many saw coming. Drift and Ratchet are polar opposites- one is an ex-Decepticon trying to find his place in the world, and the other is a grouchy old medic who’s losing his touch. But, if you look closely, you can see how their relationship developed over the course of More Than Meets The Eye and Drift: Empire of Stone. When Drift is knocked down by a brick after taking the blame for Overlord, Ratchet is the only member of the ship’s crew who helps him up. In issue 28, when Atomizer hands Rodimus a list of those who supposedly didn’t vote for him, Ratchet reveals that it’s a fake- because his name isn’t on it. There are a number of reasons why this could be, but we’re led to believe it’s because of Drift. The turning point in their relationship comes when Ratchet attends Brainstorm’s trial. After the scientist gets away with a slap on the wrist, Ratchet finally snaps at Rodimus for letting Drift take the fall. He leaves the Lost Light in a shuttle, with a figurine of Drift made by Ten on his dashboard. By Lost Light, the two are officially a couple. Their relationship’s buildup was absolutely genius, and is one of many examples as to why James Roberts is a fricking genius.

3: Anode and Lug

Anode and Lug were the first major newbies introduced in Transformers: Lost Light, the sequel to More Than Meets the Eye. They are a couple when we first meet them, but we also meet them when they have a pretty major argument. Anode eventually realizes that the Lug she is seeing isn’t real- she’s a mere hallucination, brought upon after being saved by the Necrobot. Using a protoform and a spark, Anode is able to essentially bring Lug back to life. Now that’s dedication.

However, that’s not the only reason that Anode and Lug are special. The two are the first official transgender couple in Transformers, and have a whole page dedicated to Anode explaining why the two of them didn’t feel right as males. This quality, combined with the real and believable nature of their relationship, makes Anode and Lug a truly special couple.

Transformers News: Top 5 Same-Sex Transformers Couples

2: Cyclonus and Tailgate

All I can say is this: James Roberts knows how to write a romance, because God damn. These two get off to an extremely rocky start. Poor Tailgate is looking for somebody to room with, and Cyclonus lets him into his quarters- only because there’s a sparkeater on the loose. When the minibot starts to annoy him, Cyclonus knocks Tailgate out cold. Gradually, the two grow closer, bonding over the fact that they are both from Cybertron’s ancient past. At the end of Season 1, Cyclonus uses his own spark energy to cure Tailgate’s cybercrosis. In Season 2, Getaway plays on Cyclonus’ reluctance to show his feelings, and manipulates Tailgate into almost getting killed. Cyclonus protects him, and is shredded by bullets. When Tailgate is presumed dead after Fangry locks him in a radioactive chamber, Cyclonus’ faith and desire to see him again causes Cyberutopia to manifest itself as the Afterspark. These two have so much development, and have so much love between them- except Cyclonus’ pride keeps him from saying the Big Three Words until Lost Light issue 16. Caught in the middle of this romance is Whirl, who slowly pushes the two into revealing their feelings for each other. That comedic plot point alone is just fantastic.

Transformers News: Top 5 Same-Sex Transformers Couples

1: Chromedome and Rewind

You all saw this coming. Chromedome and Rewind have the single-most developed relationship in all of Transformers history. They don’t just top a list of same-sex couples- these two would top a list of all couples. From the very first issue, we see them fight and make up, like a real couple. The two are very obviously lovey-dovey with each other. However, it’s not until after Rewind sacrifices himself to get Overlord off the ship that he finally says ‘I love you.’ Heartbroken, Chromedome locks himself in his quarters and plays his husband’s final message, a composition of footage recorded by Rewind himself, over and over again. However, the two get a second chance when Megatron discovers a quantum duplicate Lost Light, with Rewind the only survivor. Seeing as he is the same, yet different, from Chromedome’s Rewind, the two get off to a less-than perfect start. Their love eventually grows back to what it once was- to the point where Chromedome almost kills himself to bring Dominus Ambus, Rewind’s old Conjunx, back from his lobotomized state as ‘The Pet.’ Instead of bringing Dominus back, Rewind severs Chromedome’s arm, keeping him alive at the cost of his former husband. There are no other words to describe just how deep their relationship runs.

Transformers News: Top 5 Same-Sex Transformers Couples

Honourable mention: If there was one other couple I need to make mention of, it’s Tigatron and Airazor- specifically from the Japanese dub of Beast Wars. Airazor was male in Japan, which was all well and good for the most part. But when the obvious affection between the two blossomed into romance, they inadvertently became the first gay couple in Transformers history.

What do you guys think of this list? Got a couple you think should be on it? Sound off in the Energon Pub forums. For now, this is Tigerhawk7109, signing off.

We thank @LostVelocitron for the thumbnail art.

Top 5 Best Skywarp Transformers Toys so Far

Sure sure, Skywarp has teleportation abilities, but we all know what really makes him stand out from the rest: his awesome deco. Purple is the thematic colour of the Decepticons (looking at the logo) and it highlighting a black jet is just gorgeous. So while it's not usually the case, deco will have a bigger impact on some choices in this list, especially since time and time again Hasbro finds ways to really mess up his deco (like the Classics deluxe and Combiner Wars leader).

5. Transformers G1 1984 Skywarp

This is the one that started it all with that beautiful deco. It just looks so good. The mold itself is one most fans are familiar with. You are either on board or you're not. And while I have always been lukewarm about it, that jet mode is awesome and looks great in those colours.

4. Transformers Generations Skywarp (Fall of Cybertron)

While not his usual all black self, this isn't Skywarp's usual G1 self. It was a completely new Seeker body and while it's during the era where Hasbro cheaped out on deco and plastic, making the other seekers who use this mode rather lackluster, it works pretty well for Skywarp. The purple highlights really pop against the grey, almost like they do in the game this toy is based on. And plus Skywarp held this body in the comics too, so you get a deluxe IDW Skywarp, two birds with one stone and all that. The mold overall is rather quaint but Skywarp makes it work best, especially thanks to the deco which plays a special role in concealing the head which is left out in the open in alt mode, which is one of my big gripes with this mold.

3. Transformers Masterpiece Skywarp

The MP mold rarely makes these top 5 seeker lists since it was already dated by the time it came out and the dumb exclusivity simply added costs to an already overpriced toy (plus, this is the only MP-11 seeker never to be released in the west). BUT the MP is a rare instance where they get the show deco right. The cartoon actually added some extra purple that was not on the original G1 toy, like the shoulders, and until 2020 this MP was the only toy to really get the right colour pattern for our dear old Skywarp. In contrast, there's the Combiner Wars leader Skywarp which just gets it wrong. It gives him a purple chest, completely ruining the illusion of his chest being a warped version of his alt mode's nosecone. Granted, robot mode chest on the MP mold was always wonk looking but at least the colour's right. And the MP jet mode is just amazing looking. It was always the better mode, same with the G1 toy, and the colours just rock.

2. Transformers Armada Skywarp

Hasbro went all out on Armada Skywarp and I really want to highlight that. They gave him a new headsculpt, new cockpit laser cannons, new wing turbines and a new Mini-Con partner. And while Armada Strarscream's deco strayed very far from his G1 self, Skywarp was a beautiful blend of the G1 black and purple but applied to his new Armada look. I know there are big fans of that mold out there and this is the best rendition of the mold bar none.

1. Earthrise Skywarp

Everyone likes the Classics seeker mold but there was definite room for improvement (height for one) with Skywarp being most in need of a redo due to the odd bright prune colour choice by Hasbro (and odd paint quality by Takara). But Earthrise came through for us with a loyal deco to the G1 cartoon on an excellent mold. I know I was weary since Hasbro's deco choice for Siege Skywarp was God awful but seeing those perfect colours of Earthrise Skywarp in hand almost made me forgive the odd choice for a screaming headsculpt. Plus, unlike the MP, the cockpit chest is tapered in the right direction (down). This is my definitive Skywarp.
