Welcome one and welcome all! As we approach the New Year of 2019 (or in some cases, you have already crossed over into the new year) I your fellow Seibertronian would like to take this opportunity to start the Top 10 Transformers Finds of 2018.

The rules for this are very simple. This list is a Top 10 list of figures I, and by extend when you make your list you, purchased this year. This list is open to any Transformer from any generation or release year, so long as it arrived at your house between January 1 and December 31 of 2018. The figure doesn't even need to be a good one or a collectible one or even a big or little one; it's all about your opinion and attraction to the figure. 3rd party figures are allowed for the list, it's all on you!

So with that, let's get started!

10) Generation 1 Jetfire

This one is exciting because I found this complete in wonderful condition in person. I could not believe my eyes when I was in a Collector store and there was a guy taking pictures of it. I went over, could not believe it was complete and so perfect, and asked if it was for sale. A half out and several more G1 figures later, I had a holy grail. I could not be any happier with my fortune that day.

9) Animated Safeguard

This is a figure I did not get originally despite how much I love Animated. It took until earlier this year, but it was worth it. It was yet another grail of mine to find, except this time I was looking for it and have consistently wanted to find it.

8) Masterpiece MP-41 Dinobot

Little else needs said about this figure. They could not have done Dinobot any better. He is perfection. It is a figure long overdue, finally giving Dinobot a perfect appearance. This is a character deserving of a Masterpiece, and it is fantastic and well worth the wait.

7) Studio Series Grimlock

This was the Studio Series figure I was the most excited for, and it did not disappoint. It is a really fun figure and holy crap is it detailed. I love a figure with a great amount of detail, and Grimlock shows how vast he is with the amount of detailing he has. Not to mention how clean the robot mode is and how well painted he is. He is gorgeous, and he is fun.

6) Transformers 2007 Dropkick

This was one I did not expect to want or get, and it's even funnier considering Dropkick himself ended up in the Bumblebee movie this year. This guy, along with 8 other movie bots and 2 G1 guys, came from my buddy and Forum Admin Burn, and he is so much fun. He's a good figure, but far and away he is really fun. This is a unique looking robot that can blend into many different spots in the collection. And that con symbol is huge!

5) Takara Legends Greatshot

This one was a special one to me. I was super excited for Sixshot, and then somewhat let down. Then came Quickswitch, who was better but was harder to get. And then came this gorgeous retool. In just over a year, I went from 0 to 3 6-Changers, and they got better as they went. The retooling done to Greatshot is fantastic, and it is such a great looking unique figure. Winged space Rhino for the win and Eagle chest for the win!

4) Generation 1 Grotusque

This was another figure I got at the same time as Jetfire. And this guy has been a ton of fun for a G1 figure. It is so ugly but adorable at the same time. The spark gimmick is ridiculously fun! And I just got the updated Titans Return one too, so it's awesome to have 2 different Grotusque toys 30 years apart. And it was also cool because it only took a few reprolabels to perfect this old gem. i wish more people liked these late G1 figures like the Monsterbots and Pretenders like I do.

3) Beast Wars Tigerhawk

After watching the show, this guy was an expensive must have. But then, I found this guy pretty much mint in package for a great deal, and wow is he great. The paintwork, the sculpt, the size, the bulk, the near perfect fusion of Eagle and Arctic Tiger. It is so great! A really fun figure, I love this big bulky guy. And the fact that Tigerhawk was one of my favorite characters in the show, even if he wasn't around much, also helps. Him being the fusion of Airazor and Tigatron was also really cool.

Transformers News: The Seibertron Top 10 Transformer Finds of 2018

2) Studio Series Jazz

Simply put, this guy is the definition of fun. I was not impressed when I first saw him, but in hand, Jazz is fun personified. He is small, but that's part of the charm. He is perfectly painted, fun, nice to transform, solid, and the silver color means he can go anywhere and be perfectly photogenic. He is fun, fun FUN! I love this little guy, he is near the top of my collection in terms of favorites.

Transformers News: The Seibertron Top 10 Transformer Finds of 2018

Before I get to #1, a few quick Honorable Mentions. I bring these ones up because it was hard to but the list down to 10 and these ones were strong contenders:

-Beast Wars Fuzor Silverbolt - Great figure, lots of fun, one of my favorites from the show!
-Generation 1 Abominus - My first G1 combiner, pretty fun!
-Beast Wars Depthcharge - This one is huge and painted so well and also really fun! I only wish his backpack was a bit smaller, but I still love it.
-Beast Wars Dinobot II - Transmetals, I and II, are really fun, and this guy is so fierce looking I love it.
-G1 Icepick - A fun little find, I found the inner robot in a bin for a Quarter, and picked up the shell. I never thought I would find a G1 Pretender Monster!
-Hunt for the Decepticons Bludgeon - this figure is fantastic, that is all that needs said

And now, on to my Top Transformer find of the year, and the honor goes to:

1) Beast Wars Transmetal Tarantulas

The character of Tarantulas was so brilliant in Beast Wars, I needed his figure. I found him and got him right before I moved to my new apartment and job, and I have loved him since. The colors work, the chrome works, the Tarantula mode is really big and impressive, the robot mode kills, and he is so screen accurate. He is the perfect encapsulation of his amazing TV show counterpart, and I love him. And with how cool the character is, and the fact that it translated perfectly to toy form, he is my #1 Transformer find of the year.

Anyone reading message boards online or social media comments may think Transformers fans are some of the hardest fans to please but that is just because these are great places to vent frustration and those annoyed and unhappy are always louder than those content with their toys. So I wanted to look back on this year and write the positives that came out of it, especially since there was some massive change in how Transformers toys were handled retail wise. Plus, from the onset, 2018 looked to be a really rough year with Toysrus now out of the picture in the US and Hasbro pushing for 4 different Transformers mainline to occupy the shelves at the same time (Generations, Studio Series, Bumblebee and Cyberverse). It makes it even more miraculous that, thanks to some management/distribution choices, 2018 has been the best year for collecting in a very long time.

The Generations Subline only lasting one calendar year

The first two line in the Prime Wars trilogy lasted for a year and a half and had 6 waves each (one per quarter) so some fans were upset that it was not followed through with Power of the Primes. However this was the biggest move Hasbro has ever done to help the distribution woes and it actually worked. With the line only having 4 quarters, and them coinciding with the calendar year (meaning begging of the line is beginning of the year and end of the line is end of the year), this helped retailers manage their inventory better. By making it shorter, there was less of a chance for there to be a pile up of unsold toys from the same line, and thus every toy from Power of the Primes would be ordered. So no more skipping the last wave. This also assures that the toys for the next calendar year are put up for grabs as soon as Hasbro would allow it since it's seen as fully new product as opposed to a continuation of the same line (instead of say, wave 5 of the last year's line). And, more importantly, that means that the retailer is now certain that whatever stock they receive of that line during the year is of the current year (as opposed to them confusing it with remainder stock of last year). The result is that this year no mainline toy from any line was skipped by retailers in the US. I won't have to write one of these articles next week.

Exclusives were far more attainable

I can't tell you how much I hated the Transformers Collector's Club. Not that I didn't like their product, but being an international fan (aka, not US based), buying from them was a huge pain. The extra costs to get these overpriced toys made them practically unattainable if you have any semblance of a budget. And of course going to conventions to get their exclusives wouldn't be possible. But with Hasbro doing away with the Club, and taking matters into their own hands, getting most exclusives has been relatively doable. They were very smart to have most of their exclusives be Amazon, Entertainment Earth, or Hasbro Toy Shop exclusives which removed any American's dependence of having a brick and mortar location near by. Also, by having these exclusives made by them, and using their economies of scale, redecos like Nemesis Prime were very reasonably priced (that would have been an easy $100 price tag if it came from the club, probably more due to the exclusive accessories). And for international buyers, Amazon.com having surprisingly fair shipping rates helped.

Another HUGE helping factor was the brand unification. So for instance take any Movie Masterpiece toy, which are all exclusives in one way or another. Takara released the exact same toy at comparative prices. So if you could not get it through whatever channel Hasbro was using, you could get the Takara release off Amazon Japan, which recently decided to ship toys internationally (this might be their first full year of doing so). Same goes with other exclusives like the Throne of the Primes, which was integral to fans completing their Prime Master collection. If you couldn't get it from Hasbro Toy Shop, you could just get it off Amazon Japan, which currently even comes out cheaper than having bought it off HTS (but that's because American's wont get taxed when purchasing from Japan). And as for Walmart exclusives, this was the first year in a long time that Walmart had a Transformer toy over $50 on the shelves (their exclusive G1 Devastator reissue). Needless to say, all these G1 exclusives fared far better than the Last Knight Walmart exclusives where a few were never even released by Walmart.

No more missing out on Takara versions

The brand unification discussed above had another major impact on collectors this year, and our community as a whole. We don't talk about it much, but there has been some pretty intense elitism in this hobby in the past. A lot of it is based on the fact that there have usually been two different versions of the same Transformers toy with the one from Japan being an import and thus costing westerners more. That higher cost coinciding with differences from the Hasbro releases could make it seem like those only buying what they find in stores locally might be missing out. But 2018 marked an end to all of that with the exact same toy being released by both companies and the realization that the higher prices had nothing to do with the products actually being different (in the cases where only the deco differed).

This helped in a lot of ways. This gave us another outlet for toys that may be exclusive in one company but not the other, it removed any possible feeling of false superiority or inferiority in terms of either the products being purchased or the fans themselves, and best of all it meant that now all that amazing Japanese product promotion was applicable to everyone. Every month, for years, we get these magazine pages showcasing all the upcoming toys from Takara and most of us just look at all the toys we won't be getting (at least not looking exactly like that or with those accessories). But now, we can relish in this joyous advertising, and it is proof that Takara is just as proud of their releases as ever before. And now we can all easily own these beautiful toys with no need to import. Plus, that means that reveals for toys we will find locally can come from both Hasbro and Takara. Meaning that reveals in Japan concern us just as much as reveals at SDCC, for instance. The unification works both ways too, with Hasbro releasing all Takara MP products in the US as well. Plus, completionists will be getting a break, especially with 4 mainlines on the shelves.

_

So in the end, 2018 was amazing because in a year where we had more product than ever before (4 mainlines!), the final toys/waves in the toylines were not skipped, exclusives were more readily available (and affordable) and we no longer have to worry about which version of a toy we should get. Oh, and it also happens to be the year where we got a Masterpiece Beast Wars Dinobot, here is hoping 2019 treats us just as well.

We are updating the article below with more images of Studio Series SS 31 Battle Damaged Revenge of the Fallen Megatron from Robot Kingdom's Facebook page and Stanley Cheung on Facebook. These show the head in a close up as well as the darker plastic being used and the deco. We also see the back of the box which tells us that the backdrop will be the Egyptian temple where Prime battles both Megatron and the Fallen, leaving one with part of his head missing and the other without a face.

Knowing at least half a year's worth of the 2019 Studio Series offerings, there was one glaring unknown: SS 31. Well, now we know both what it is and why we had not heard of it before. SS 31 turns out to be none other than voyager Revenge of the Fallen (ROTF) Megartron with Battle Damage. That damage includes a new darker deco and a new head to reflect what he looked like at the end of ROTF. This was revealed on Hobbybase's Facebook page where it seems to be available in that particular store in Hong Kong.

The listing on Robot Kingdom tells us why we had not heard of it yet, it is an exclusive item. We do not know yet who in the US will be carrying this exclusive item, but judging at how easy every other Studio Series exclusive has been to order or obtain in the US, there shouldn't be anything to worry about.

We will first go through the final episodes that we had not reviewed yet. When available we have the episode embedded within the article for your viewing pleasure. After the quick reviews from myself and fellow Seibertronian new staff member Notirishman, you will find our ovrall thoughts on season 1. Enjoy!

Cyberverse episode 15

King of the Dinosaurs

Summary: Windblade and Bee uncover a buried Autobot who turns out to be an old friend.

Before we get into my quick thoughts (which are not quick for this episode), it's best you take a look at the episode:

Quick Thoughts:

I have issues with this episode, very nerdy issues but it really makes me not enjoy this. So, we have seen Grimlock a lot so far in this series. And he looks as we would expect Grimlock to look, with all that obvious dinosaur kibble. Since this show takes its inspiration from everything that could be considered G1 in theme, there are lots of versions out there where Grimlock had a dino type alt mode in the war on Cybertron (FOC, IDW), so I without a doubt assumed he had a dino type alt mode whenever we saw him so far. But no, it turns out that it was just animators being very cheap (still today) since it was revealed in this episode that he only took on a dino mode when he arrived to earth at the time of Dinosaurs. Beyond that meaning that all that dino kibble we have seen so far makes not a lick of sense that also means that the war has been raging for 65 MILLION years without Bumblebee, Optimus, Grimlock and the like. Now 4 million years was always crazy in the original cartoon (like how do they even know there is still a war going on?) but at least some writers have tried to make some sense of it (I write more about that here). But 65 MILLION years, that's a nonsense number, especially when it looks like nothing changed. Shockwave is still against Bumblebee as he was 65 million years ago. It was just a pause for some characters while the rest fought and when they are reawoken it's like nothing happened. And I find that very hard to reconcile since one of the best aspects of this show is seeing Cybertron before the war with Shockwave and Soundwave being friends with Autobots. If so much changed in a few years with the war breaking out, why would nothing change in 65 million years?! And the worst part is this is all just to explain why Grimlock is a T-Rex which again, is nonsense since he is shown with that alt mode kibble before!!!! - William-James88

Quick Thoughts:
I like this one. I really like Grimlock in this show, and the "he's stupid in dino mode only" thing to appease G1 fans is actually quite smart, and puts an interesting spin on his character. It was also quite sad to see him distraught over the death of his dinosaur pals, though it seem they tied that up rather quickly. Still, good episode, even if not much happened. -notirishman

Cyberverse episode 16

The Extinction Event

Summary: The newly formed team of Autobots must stop Shockwave from destroying all life on the planet.

Quick Thoughts:
Transformers News: Quick Reviews for Transformers Cyberverse Episodes 15-18 + Season 1 Review

Seriously though, if any of you were wondering if anything could be told in a 10 minute format, well here you go. You get Shockwave literally planning to destroy all life on earth and executing the plan. You don't even have to watch the previous episodes to enjoy this, this link is right below, have fun. This definitely made up for any troubles I had with the previous episode (which I will simply try to forget and move on from). - William-james88

This episode was also good. As opposed to the more slow pace of last episode, this episode moved fast. Shockwave's plan is introduced, then his plan commences, then the Autobots have to figure out how to stop it last minute, and they do. That's the thing, the resolution was last minute. The episode was leading up to this whole "extinction event," and it just abruptly ended. Still, this episode was enjoyable! -notirishman

Cyberverse episode 17

Awaken Sleeping Giants

Summary: The Autobot team finally discovers the location of the Ark.

Quick Thoughts: Coming out of an episode where Shockwave almost anihilates all organic life on earth, this one has much less going on. It's a race to get to the ark and very aerial combat heavy. It's fine but it offers nothing new aside from some X-Men cannonball action. Also, I find it really hard to understand why a Seeker's instinct when being hit or in danger when in air is to transform into their robot mode and plummet. And one last thing, I do like that Shockwave's mini me minions are so prominent in this season, it makes me feel way less guilty about having purchased both a warrior and ultra Schockwave figure. Now I can have the ultra as the main shockwave and the warrior in alt mode as his spy. - William-james88

This episode was very entertaining! However, there is one pickle in my onion, they found the location of the Ark, very quickly. Y'know, something they've been trying to figure out all season. But the group hug at the end was awesome. It was quite lovely. - notirishman

Cyberverse episode 18

Eruption

Summary: The Autobot team must fight its way through Shockwave and his Decepticons to defend the Ark and awaken Optimus Prime and the other Autobots.

Quick Thoughts: Once again, Shockwave just getting stuff done. No nonsense, no countdown, just annihilation. This time directly attacking all Autobots. I like seeing him both being up to his own machinations and also being the leader of the Decepticons. The all out brawl was fun and the finale really makes you wish the next episode was right around the corner. They better pay off that final shot. - William-james88

The finale! Well, I mean, it's a cliffhanger for season 2. But still, I liked it. The fight in the volcano was well done and entertaining to watch. And one of the ending shots with all the Autobots INCLUDING Rack'n'Ruin, and a cool little battle mask on Grimlock, was pretty great. Overall, great episode. -notirishman

Overall Thoughts on Season 1

This show is giving me high hopes for the future! 'Cause season 1 was awesome! I mean, yeah, it has flaws, but the season was entertaining, and getting to see characters like Rack'n'Ruin, and Maccadam were fun. Shockwave was a threatening villain, and newcomer Shadowstiker (mostly) had a great arc behind her. Overall, this season was a fun, and enjoyable, and pretty good. - notirishman

What Burn writes below is something I agree with. I do have a tad bit to add. For instance, I am still not on board with keeping Bumblebee's radio talk gimmick, especially since it makes no sense (if he is just pulling recordings from the air, isn't he advanced enough to just combine words from various recordings to make sentences?). I do recommend this show to all those who like Transformers, especially those who have been clamoring for a G1 reboot. This is exactly what that is. It uses everything under the G1 umbrella (IDW, Sunbow) to make a cohesive show while showing you elements from before the war, during the war on Cybertron and now. Plus I absolutely adore this rendition of Shockwave, it's perfect. Also, not one human, which I was perfectly fine and happy with. Looking forward to season 2 especially with the finale we got. - William-James88

Now, onto Burn's thoughts:

Let me preface this by saying that I was one of "those hater people", you know the sort, write a series off before watching it. I was one of them. From what I saw from the previews I was not impressed, and previews are like trailers, they tend to show the best bits.

This was the opposite, if anything, those previews were detrimental to marketing Cyberverse.

Initially I kept up each week, for four weeks ... then life got in the way. This week I found some time (mostly because of our house guest commandeering our big lounge TV) so I sat down in front of my trusty "personal computer", tracked down the episodes, and settled in.

I started by watching Episode 4, I was certain I had watched it but I figured after such a break it'd make for a good reminder of where I was at.

Let me just say this, present time Bumblebee and his radio speak is annoying. That's why the flashbacks work so well, it limits the radio speak and each memory is actually a really good individual story that feeds into the major story.

THIS CARTOON IS ACTUALLY GOOD

The writers have done a fantastic job drawing from various TF stories of the past. Was that just Rack 'n' Ruin? HELL YEAH IT WAS RACK 'N' RUIN!

And it turns out I've been pronouncing Maccadam wrong all these years. I don't know how I'm expected to pronounce it as "Macc-adams" as opposed to "Macca-dam"

While I feel that the two main Autobots, Bumblebee and Windblade, have received far too much exposure in other media, the writers have done a fantastic job of balancing out their on-screen time with other lesser known characters.

Shadowstriker and Maccadam have been given backstories where there was previously very little. A bunch of seekers who were animation errors/throw aways in G1 suddenly find themselves with characterization.

Grimlock ... wow, that is such a massive shift from what we're normally accustomed to, but a fun twist is added to the character by the time he joins Windblade and Bumblebee.

This is the sort of show that can appeal to old and new fans, older fans though may need to keep an open mind about things.

The animation style ... I think my biggest gripe with it is the hips, where it gives the look that they're wearing underwear on the outside. Otherwise, I have no real gripes with the animation.

Overall, I had my reservations about this series, but I've been pleasantly surprised by it. If you've had your reservations as well, give it a go, you may find yourself surprised by it. - Burn

This one really comes out of nowhere and is something I have never seen before. You know claw machines, the ones where you have a insert some coins for your chance to grab a plushie or toy using a claw (aka, the CLAW), well the ones I have always seen usually have random prizes inside, it's never thematic. However, a fan found a Transformers themed claw machine in Victoria Gardens shopping centre in Richmond, Australia. It uses Emiliano Santalucia's Evergreen Transformers designs both in the artwork and in the plushies up for grabs. These plushies have never been shown, found or revealed elsewhere. They include Bumblebee, Megatron and Optimus in both their modes. The fan who found this is JoemasterII who posted it on the TFW2005 message boards. You can see the pic they posted below:

Thanks to a heads up from Seibertronian Nathaniel Prime, we have word that the 17th episode of the Transformers: Cyberverse cartoon is now up on Hasbro's YouTube channel, "Awaken Sleeping Giants!" This episode is part one of the season finale, where Bumblebee try to find the location of the Ark, with the help of Teletraan-X and the recently activated Grimlock. During this, the Decepticons, led by Shockwave, try to apprehend them after the original plan in the last episode failed.

So check out the episode below and tell us what you think in the Pub forums below!

The episode has aired in Singapore and Cartoon Network for US airing, as well as the Cartoon Network mobile app and their website.

Hasbro wins legal battle against bootlegs in China

Transformers News: Hasbro wins legal battle against bootlegs in China

Fans of "third party not-Transformers", bootlegs, and over sized knockoff products tend to defend them by saying such things as, "if Hasbro cared they would do something about them" or "they're legal in China, things are more relaxed there". But that's never been entirely true. We've seen Hasbro do things like ban their sale (and attempted to do so with fan art) at BotCon and once requested the removal of their coverage from news sites while China has protected three dimensional trademarks (like toys) since 2001. They even introduced the administrative raid system for speedy resolutions and special "well-known" trademark protections based on consumer knowledge.

And that brings us to the current topic. Hasbro has announced on their corporate site that they've successfully defended their Transformers trademark in a criminal counterfeit case in a Chinese court based on an administrative raid from 2017. Hasbro claims this is only the latest in a string of cases with more to come. In this case three defendants were found guilty including two unnamed people that have been jailed and fined and an unidentified corporation that has been fined as well.

Hasbro's full press release can be found below (it isn't very long or detailed). We realize this is a hotly debated topic so we ask for some civility when discussing this in the Energon Pub.

Hasbro Trademark Rights Upheld in Criminal Case Involving Counterfeit TRANSFORMERS Products in China

December 20, 2018

PAWTUCKET, R.I.—December 20, 2018-- The Chinese court in Dongguan city of Guangdong Province has issued a judgment favorable to Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) in a criminal case involving counterfeit TRANSFORMERS products.

Hasbro initiated an administrative raid action in 2017, which was transferred to the Public Security Bureau (PSB) due to the volume of counterfeit product and seriousness of the case. After a thorough investigation, three separate defendants, including two individuals and one corporate defendant, were found guilty of counterfeiting Hasbro’s trademarks and fined by the court, and the two individuals were sentenced to jail time. Thousands of counterfeit TRANSFORMERS products were confiscated and destroyed.

With strong support from various Chinese authorities, Hasbro has initiated many actions to enforce its intellectual property rights in China, and this is the latest of several criminal judgments involving counterfeit Hasbro products issued by Chinese courts in recent years.

“We take the protection of our intellectual property very seriously, and we will continue to investigate and pursue those who infringe on our rights,” said Tarrant Sibley, Hasbro’s Chief Legal Officer. “We are pleased with the ruling in this case, and will continue to vigorously enforce our intellectual property rights to combat the manufacturing and distribution of counterfeit products.”

The Transformers live action film franchise's latest installment is out, with Bumblebee hitting theaters last week. The Seibertron.com Twincast / Podcast brings you its review of the movie, with host Scotty P and Tigertrack joined by longtime Twincast member Jon 3.0, now more famously known as Jon Bailey who achieved a dream by providing the voice acting talents for Soundwave and Shockwave in the film itself!

Episode #214 "Bumblebee" is available directly and in our RSS Feed, and should appear on iTunes, Google Play, and Stitcher Radio within 24 to 48 hours of when you see this news post.

While this may go without saying for some, please be aware this episode contains complete spoilers for Bumblebee and we recommend listening in after you've seen the movie - and if you're reading this should have done so by now. If you haven't, it's great, stop reading this and go!

Here's the full list of sub-topics for this episode:
  • At the start and throughout the episode, we're extremely proud that the Twincast's own Jon Bailey was brought in to voice Soundwave and Shockwave in the film. Listen in for insight and insider information you won't hear anywhere else!
Transformers News: Twincast / Podcast Episode #214 "Bumblebee"
  • We take the best look we can at the opening sequence featuring a battle on Cybertron.
  • A general overview and discussion of the entire movie's plot occurs throughout, with looks at new characters like Dropkick and Shatter, as well as new human friends (and foes) like Charlie and Agent Burns.
  • We take time to reflect on not just the pop-culture references - including many to previous Transformers works of all kinds - but also on the characterization provided along the way which is found at an unprecedented high level for Transformers live action movies.
Transformers News: Twincast / Podcast Episode #214 "Bumblebee"
  • Listen in for our thoughts on movie continuity.
  • Why? How did we let this happen?
Transformers News: Twincast / Podcast Episode #214 "Bumblebee"
  • With plenty of fuzzy information about the future of the Transformers film franchise out there to fuel us, we speculate about what might come next. Forget a reboot, could there be a remake?
  • Is the toyline another poorly timed missed opportunity? Is the execution the problem? Either way you can probably guess we don't have nice things to say about Hasbro's merchandising contributions.
Transformers News: Twincast / Podcast Episode #214 "Bumblebee"
  • We conclude the episode with our holiday season bragging rights.

Thanks for listening in 2018, and we look forward to bringing you more fun Transformers discussion in 2019!

The latest entry in the Encore line from Takara arrived today. Which is amazing, considering it was just released in Japan and I am all the way in Canada. Shipping only took two days and was $10 USD (the total of my order including duty and customs was $140 USD).

Transformers News: Pictorial Review of Takara Encore Unicron of Light

The full name of this release is Transformers TF Encore Unicron Micron Gathering Body Color, meaning that this is the Unicron mold in the colour representing all minicons combining. The effect in the Armada show was a bright glowing chartreuse/green. This colour is done here though a combination of clear green plastic, green plastic, and green paint. This is a much more accurate rendition than the lucky draw we previously got which was more teal than fluo green, with quite a bit of grey plastic and less clear plastic than this version. You can view that initial version here.

You will find some images below of this toy in both robot mode and alt mode as well as Bug (his minicon) and comparison images with the original Armada Unicron. You can also see the box and how he is packaged. While it is the same mold we all know, here are a few points I found noteworthy:

This figure is not mostly clear plastic, it is a 50/50 mixture of clear and non clear plastic. The clear plastic pars are his chest flaps, the planet kibble on his back and legs, the forearms and hands, the crotch flaps and the thighs.

The wings and feet are not the grey plastic we have had before, they instead have a green tint.

This really is just a straight redeco, there is nothing changed to the mold nor the electronics.

This means that the problems of floppy wings persists and the electronics give red lights, rather than green lights.

The inner chest missile does not function very well on my copy and gets stuck inside 9/10 times.

Now onto the pics!

Thanks to InDemandToys and KapowToys, we finally have a potential price, shipping date and stock image for the previously confirmed Walmart Exclusive G1 Vintage Optimus Prime reissue. Sporting the same curiosities on the box as the preview seen earlier at a show. With other G1 Vintage reissues already hitting sale prices, we can only guess that Optimus Prime will not be alone in this wave, and with the recent vote on Astrotrain Vs Perceptor, we also have had confirmation this latest spate of reissues is to run into spring 2020 as well.

Optimus Prime will be shipping late January with a price tag of £49.99 at InDemandToys and £47.97 at KapowToys.

With characters like Hound and Blitzwing being prominent characters in the movies, it would seem like an excellent chance for Hasbro to finally deliver a reissue of figures. What are you hoping to return alongside this legendary figure? Drop in on the Energon Pub and get that wish-listing gear grinding.

Thanks to Seibertron stalwart Cyberpath we got some new shots of MP-44 Optimus Prime. Coming in the form of scans from Figure King magazine no. 251 via Loopaza Mega Store there are a lot of shots we've seen elsewhere, but there are a few notable ones. We've got some examples of Prime's articulation (thanks to another pose straight out of the movie), our first look at the Matrix inside Prime's chest, and the humans interacting with the trailer.

In this age of knowing everything, it's not common to stumble upon brand new toys at retail we had no clue were coming. It happened yesterday though when TF fan gabumon found the new Bumblebee Movie Energon Igniters Power Series Ratchet at a Walmart in Northern Utah. The sighting was posted on the TFW2005 message boards. Like other Power Series toys, it is $10 and needs the motor from the Power Plus toys to do its gimmick.
Also, while there is Ratchet in the Bumblebee film, with a great G1 design, this toy uses the Dark of the Moon / Age of Extinction design with an albino looking robot mode. The vehicle mode is an ambulance though, for once. For those wanting this toy, its UPC is 6 30509 79526 0. Also, depending on distribution, this may be a rarer toy since it isn't part of the standard wave 2 case but actually part of a revision wave 2 case.

Here is the full revision wave 2 case content from Entertainment Earth:

1x TRA MV6 ENERGON IGNITERS POWER HOT ROD
3x TRA MV6 IGNITERS POWER BUMBLEBEE CAMARO
2x TRA MV6 ENERGON IGNITERS POWER SHATTER
2x TRA MV6 ENERGON IGNITERS POWER RAM (Ratchet)

Hot on the heels of Transformers Bumblebee, and the news of its box office takings and critical acclaim, Live Action series Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura has revealed that an animated Transformers movie, one that is set to explore Cybertron's history, is now in development. This news comes courtesy of fellow Seibertron user, Carytheone.

Transformers News: New Animated Transformers Movie to Explore Cybertron's History in Development

This was revealed during an interview that the producer gave to Metro

Lorenzo di Bonaventura wrote:“We actually have an animated movie in the works that will tell the whole Cybertron mythology. The fans will love that,” Di Bonaventura teases. “We’re trying to figure out an [Optimus Prime solo movie].”

In the same interview he admits that they are still trying to figure out how to do a Optimus Prime solo movie, stating:

Lorenzo di Bonaventura wrote:“It will be hard with Optimus, he is always right, very stoic and is a man of few words … It is kind of like saying, ‘Lets do a movie about Obi-Wan Kenobi?’ But how much is there to say about Obi-Wan? It is not so easy."

You can read the full interview here.

Is the news of your dreams? Will this tie in to the current film lore or restart all of it? Let us know your thoughts in the Energon Pub and stay tuned to Seibertron for all the latest news and reviews.

Recall that Transformers Bumblebee Energon Igniters Speed Series Bumblebee, the Volkswagen version? Well, did you want it, but clear yellow and missing some silver paint? Well I hoped you are subscribed to the Telebi-Kun magazine in Japan, because it'll be bundled for free in the 2019 April issue! This information comes from snakas blog, in which the folks there snapped a picture of the figure, as well as what they believe to be the release date of April 2019, as mentioned above.

This clear yellow version of Bumblebee is actually the first Japanese release of the Volkswagen Speed Series Bumblebee mold in Japan. In fact, I believe this is the first Energon Igniter released in Japan! I say this since, well, the Bumblebee toyline in Japan is looking a little sparse (with only the Power Charge Bumblebee and exclusive Leader Class Legendary Optimus Prime).

So, are you interested in this most likely, limited, release of this sweet boy? Let us know in the Pub forums below!

Merry Christmas everyone! After Optimus Primal and Rhinox read "The Night Before Christmas Beast Wars Edition," Megatron decided to once again strike back this year and sing along in his own video!

Okay, in all seriousness, in parallel to Garry Chalk's annual Christmas greetings, David Kaye also does the same, as seen last Christmas Eve. David Kaye, in dark and ominous lighting, who is ready to tuck us in after a little Christmas Carol from Beast War's Megatron.

For those who don't know, David Kaye, in Transformers, has voiced Megatron and Savage Noble in Beast Wars and Beast Machines, Megatron/Galvatron in the Unicron Trilogy, Optimus Prime and MANY more characters in Animated, and finally, Hardshell, Hammerstrike, and Slashmark in the Aligned continuity.

So, we hope this gets you in the jolly mood, as Beast Wars Megatron puts you to sleep.

And remember, don't let the bed bugs bite!

While we started with roundtable reviews of episodes, as we got nearer to the end of the year it was not as easy to plan such articles. So for this batch, it's just me. For those who have some catching up to do as we near the finale, I have the youtube links right below the quick fire reviews.

Transformers: Cyberverse 11

Sabotage

Summary: Shockwave traps Bumblebee in a false memory designed to convince him he's a Decepticon.

Quick Thoughts: Shockwave has always been a rather underutilized villain in shows. Often on the sidelines. That is very contrasting to the comics where he has several times been an even bigger nemesis than Megatron himself. I really like the middle ground between those two extremes that this show takes. We have him as the diabolical scientist and as a looming threat but also getting his hands dirty for some immediate villainous treachery. My only problem is I think his plan was dumb, you would think someone that smart would come up with a plan that an amnesiac Bumblebee couldn't poke holes through in a matter of minutes.

Transformers: Cyberverse episode 12

Teletraan X

Summary: Windblade and Bumblebee trace an Autobot signal and find themselves lured into a trap set by Slipstream and her Seekers.

Quick Thoughts: I am not a fan of quirky characters, and that's what Teletraan X is. But hey, at least it's better than that Peter Dinklage drone from Destiny. It's cool to see the show come into it's own without relying on cool G1 fan wank flashbacks, though I find the seekers to not be that meaningful of threats. Also, while I do not care that Hasbro made Acid Storm female in this version, it gets quite frustrating to have the use a male seeker body for her.

Transformers: Cyberverse episode 13

Matrix of Leadership

Summary: Bee learns the meaning of leadership through three memories of Optimus Prime.

Quick Thoughts: Back to flashbacks, but I am not complaining. This is all the stuff a kid wants to see, Optimus being a bad ass (with no face removals). I also like seeing his Autobot light up shield since it makes it a fun gimmick kids can recreate with his toys, I am all for toy/show synergy. A fine episode but I still preferred the previous Optimus appearances.

Cyberverse episode 14

Siloed

Summary: The Seekers attempt to extract the location of the Ark from Windblade's memories.

Quick Thoughts: While the Maccadams episode is all kinds of special, I feel this might be my favourite. We get to see the show not dwell on flashbacks and focus on Windblade, a rather new character in Transformers lore. So it gives us a good look at what the show has to offer aside from all the fan oriented callbacks. And it is better WIndblade content than anything we have ever gotten in Machinima. I also love the Decepticon hierarchy and how scared the seekers are of Shockwave. The action was excellent and I love the little details, like how Windblade in jet mode has to do a slight circle to be able to escape vertically.
